Ayres probably never had a problem as Port rarely released their core senior players back to their local clubs. Having said that most of the non-aligned VFL clubs are generally less concerned about the level of local football whereas the AFL aligned clubs seem to insist on Premier. We discovered last year the perils of being relegated and lost 4 decent VFL players as a result. Coincidentally 2 of those to Old Brighton, despite neither attending Brighton Grammar. It is what it is but cannot dispute the fact that playing Premier is a better preparation for VFL football than B or C grade.
Tim Allen was a regular at Port under Gaz , but they had a bye and he did his knee at Fitzroy . We've had Jackson Hille at Sandy and he's been allowed to play.

In 8 years we never once saw Bonnadio or Scipione. Got Fieldsend for one game when returning from injury. Of all the clubs, IMO Port were the most reluctant to release players. Having said that it was not up to them to prop up VAFA teams but others seemed more willing to let players have a run on bye weekends etc.

Those 2 were very good players for Port , anyhow never had an issue and Kennedy was on Ports list , played 1 against Essendon and was always allowed to play.

Bedders, I was always much more concerned with our guys going off to Ammo State Rep duties each year than being listed on a VFL list .............. at least we saw the VFL listed guys play for us again  .

Chump.

How can this be so? Brighton play with only 22 player points each week

They must be taking the p155. Wellings (since departed) and Hayward are 5 pointers. Filopovic is another. Not enough to trouble the points cap but they are not a team exclusively made up of Old Boys.

2 from Ormond there JJ
Proves what a farce the points cap really is. While the merits or otherwise could be argued, if it is imposed on clubs then it needs some governance.

Remember the absurd situation from 2019 when a player who attended Xavier College was a 6 for Old Xavs but someone who did a part time on-line course at Swinburne became a 1 pointer for Uni Blues. While there have been some changes it is still a mess.

It's probably been mentioned but Matt Buntine to Caulfield is quite the recruit. Same with Scott Selwood to Ivanhoe

Just a couple of weeks before round 1 now everyone.

I'm sure plenty will be discussed about the points cap etc, but it will be great to talk about actual games for points very soon.

Haileybury run across 3 campuses - Berwick, Keysborough and South Rd, Brighton.

There’s little connect between the 3 academically - so they don’t socialise much outside playing compulsory sport.

The fact the top 10 of each of their Year 12 graduates usually end up playing AFL or VFL for the following 4 years adds to the disconnect upon graduation. Usually those who join the old boys are fringe 1sts / 2nds players at school. Hence they sit where they are (lower B/upper C).

Their students come from a far wider area than the more eastern/bayside concentrated APS schools like Scotch, Xavs, Collegians, Caulfield, OMs & OBs.
Haileybury top 4 in B Grade last season, can’t remember them being Upper C for awhile but Football Clubs do have lean times

How about Old Scotch, their captain Gene Van Den Broek walked out and went to Uni Blacks.

So in 2.5 years, they've lost their coach and probably their two of their best players to Uni Blakcks in Van Den Broek and Sansom.

Sacking a good coach and bloke might backfire
Any more reports out of SKOB? I would assume given the the last 2 years there would be plenty of turnover. Mr Gold?

Ps the idea players are leaving due to the coach is very funny......the club's most beloved and greatest player has the steering wheel.

Seems to have a lack of assistants as they are still approaching a former assistant at DLS who has been coaching in C and D1

I hear SKOBs gave Rochester a good old touch up on the weekend.
