Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

For all those wanting to get rid of Primus - who do we get as his replacement?

No one of note will want the job.

There mus be a reason why the club gave him a 3 yr contract???

Lets at least give him 2 thirds of that and get some dencent assistaints!

RHode must go

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

He's a rookie coach with the worst support staff in the league. First thing I'd do is get a new football operations manager, then improve the support around Primus. I want to see Primus get a fair go before I decide whether he can coach or not.

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

Do you think this crowd has the intelligence and the B#@ls to make any decent decisions? I think we will get some idea where this club is going if some tough calls are made in regard to clear out of this place. Firstly coaching staff secondly players.
THE CULL MUST CONTINUE!

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

According to the great man's press conference, we can always do with more midfielders, half forwards and half back flankers.

Oh dear. We need a mature ruckman to help Lobbe and about 5 quality midfielders. I guess what Primus is saying is that our spine is solid (which on paper it is but in practice it is not - Carlile and Chaplin again showed today why seeing the back of one or both of them would not be bad for this club).

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

A change of coaching staff can change the attitude of a team entirely (see Essendon) Watson went from the spuddiest spud to ever spud it up on the stage, and now he is seen as one of the best midfielders in the league.

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

I remember a bulldog supporter on here posting back here in '05 that we would be a laughing stock and rock bottom before Rohde left. How true that was.

Primus is running out of chances quickly, but he is surrounded by proven spuds who are apparently mentoring him.

I have a vague memory of that too. I fear that he is ensconsed in the club though, somehow managing to manouvre things around and avoid any of the blame. You hear whispers about almost everyone else being moved on but him, and it really worries me. He simply has to go.

I didn't want Primus last year but i am willing to see how he goes with decent support staff. I think he has to be given that chance.

This club needs Walsh and Bailey.

I would argue that we have half forwards and half back flankers, but they're playing midfield.

Joel Corey is the example I think of - he started in midfield when Geelong were iffy, and as their midfield improved he got put on a flank. THAT is the improvement we should look for, not futile attempts to turn flankers into mids.

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

For heaven's sake people, it's not the first year players that are the problem.
The ones that have played this year are going to be really, really good.
Our problem is that we have guys on our list that will never make it anywhere or have seen better days.
Alphabetically: Broadbent, Chaplin, K. Cornes, Davenport, Hitchkock, Logan, the two Motlops, Pettigrew, Salopeck, Salter, Surjan, M. Westhoff.

These comments clearly suggest hes not up to it! Either that or hes taking the piss.

Hugely optimistic before you consider the upheaval we need in our developmental programs or that 16 other clubs would be thinking the same (Fasolo, Darling, Heppell, 75% of the GCS list).

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

Primus should sack himself

this is beyond a joke I truly do not think he can coach

Other clubs have sacked their coaches fast (like Blighty at the saints)

Yes its great we are playing the youngters ...BUTANY COACH COULD DO THAT

what is one thing...one lousy thing in the way of playing skills and tactics That have improved under Primus
Can any body tell me?

where is the improvement
where is a game plan?

It is total BS to try and say it is committment problem

it is lack of intelligent coaching

this board is also a place to catch an inside gossip

SURELY THE PLAYERS ARENT BEHIND THIS COACH (love to hear from a 'friend ' of a player)

WAS TERRY WALLACE THIS BAD?

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

Even if we wanted to sack him we cant. Not unless you want Ryan Mcmillan coaching next year with Squidjags as the sole assistant coaching via skype. we cant afford to sack him

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

Short of Primus being that traumatised by the whole affair and falling on his sword by his own doing no way Port can can sack him the same year they are still making payments to the last coach and thus creating more payments (not that Primus would be on big coin), Vlad would have a kitten.

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

Exactly. So it's not even a thought worth entertaining. The best we can do is surround him with the best possible people, and people who want to be part of the long term solution to the problem.

Like it or not Matthew Primus is the coach for at least the next two and a bit years.

Re: Primus - is the gloss wearing off already

He has a mandate to lose thus year, he isn't going anywhere. I'm happy to give him his time. However since 2008 I thought our miss were ok but tactically they were deficient! Now he's taken over full time our whole team looks tactically deficient!!!! He needs Bailey and Walsh to help him..... Why can't we get Roos damn it

Sure why not. Let's make Ryan McMillan President, CEO and Senior Coach. I'm sure Rohde can think many more ways to pull Ryan away from his core competency.
