Except the GF is at the G, so what's the point of knocking out WCE at the cattery?
100%.

I don’t want a win at GMHBA if we’re going to lose the next round in the semi-final.

All that does is create a W stat for the coaches record in a final. Or some sort of value for the club due to finishing higher.

It’s meaningless to the players and the supporters. It’s shallow. It reinforces this ‘win at Geelong only’ situation.

I want a win at the MCG and then get momentum from that.

The reality is that we are less likely to get that win at the MCG. So be it. We should want the right to play the best at the home of football.

I guess the Eagles should have requested to play Essendon at the G then if that is the case.

You need to get to the grand final.

I've never complained about a G final against Richmond/Collingwood/Hawthorn as we play our home games against them there anyway.

Finals against low drawing sides should be at KP like the regular season. The 10k or so that may miss out are not the regular Joe supporters anyhow, just your MCC, corporates etc, and I say that as a MCC member.

Doesn’t mean that they can’t change.

If they are not good enough, so be it.

I still remember the Hawks being smacked by the Eagles in Perth in 2015 in week 1. Everyone thought that they were done.

And they regrouped and went on to win the premiership.

We’re a lot more like the 2016-2018 Hawks.
****ing embarrassing in Finals.

We all want change. The coach sadly will not leave so change the assistants. Too many defenders involved.

Taylor, Ablett, Selwoodx2, Smith, Dahl, Tuohy, Atkins should all go

Hawkins to be demoted as our key forward.

We need a new captain in Stewart.

Throw everything at Cameron and a true Ruckman

In order to play in the prelim the following week.

The GF at the G is a different proposition, since usually both teams have a similar number of supporters and there is a large chunk of neutrals. The home ground crowd support is a reduced factor.
Scott does not know how to win at finals footy at the G. He only knows how to make excuses.

So we were better off without Duncan tonight? Felt sorry for Bews as well, he was s**t but who knows how his foot injury progressed? Not excuses, no way, just reality, and they had De Goey sidelined.

And Greenwood pinged his knee potentially badly before halftime so injuries wise

Ha, the generic non-answer with Stanley. He also said the numbers indicated Grundy didn't dominate. What ******* numbers is he looking at?
It pretty much doesn't matter what Scott says. There's no way to say he made a mistake without also saying that some of his players aren't good enough and hanging them out to dry. I'd rather he made some transparently weak excuse rather than hang his players out to dry in the media

We all thought that last year

And the year before that

And before that

Defeat does nothing for these guys
I really like this line and totally agree, I feel the way we’re coached, defeat doesn’t hurt enough. I’d love to know if Mr Scott’s approach to big finals has changed or has the massaging been delivered the same way each year.

I have recovered enough to post but haven’t really read the thread.
Why play a game plan minus a ruckman that is slow in ball movement allowing the opposition to set up behind play then bomb high and long along the wings. That’s the type of game plan you play when you have a high quality marking ruck and CHF, we had neither. Then to not adjust one bit all night is shocking, even when we were well down heading into the final q when we needed to roll the dice nothing changed especially in the delivery to the forward line. Why do we never hit up leading forwards?
Then when the game was on the line in the final 15 minutes defensively we were still guarding space and not going man on man. It allowed Collingwood to maintain possession and use time at will.
Our coaching staff really have a lot to answer for!

You doth protest too much.

I defend the clubs right to pursue this matter, but pursue it they did. It was not the media who started it. When we get the extra capacity then the argument will have been worth it. If we played freo in 2013 then can’t see why we can’t play Weagles at home.
But to say that this was all media when from Cooks own mouth last week I heard him say that they pursued this. They didn’t expect the blowback however from vested interests across the board nor the hate and resentment expressed. Didn’t effect the result. That was Chris Scott.

And I never said that the club didn't raise the issue, Cook having done so back in May when he also spoke to the media about why the club deserves a home final at home.

But over recent weeks it's been the media who have been giving the issue airtime - they are the ones asking Scott, last week they raise the issue with Ablett & Danger and if you go on social media they have been running polls on it.

It's frustrating that it continues to be a question at every Geelong based press conference - surely they could find a better question to ask or is it just lazy & easy journalism.

Also not sure anyone's said it had an impact on last night's result

That was my concern before the game, that we’d play the same way 😫

Taylor, Scooter, Ablett & Smith are out of contract, so you may get a couple of those right.

Highly unlikely the club is going to delist or trade the others mentioned when they are contracted for at least next year or longer - you might want to get used to seeing them in the hoops

Scott does not play, he coaches. He has coached a Grand Final win...at the G.
I have said that too.

I'm now withdrawing it. Over the years, without the team that Bomber built (with plenty of help) Scott has showed he cannot come close to replicating 2011. I'm therefore giving Scott assistant coach status for 2011. That team of senior experienced premiersship gun players virtually coached itself, with good management from Scott.

Scott has shown himself to be similar (not identical) to Ross Lyon. Dour, good, but unable to get the team to score enough to beat the good teams come finals. If we still played like the start of the season we should be warm favorites for the flag. We were like that becasue of the new players coming in and Ablett going forward and creating opportunities. Our new players gave us an attacking flair. Over the season the game plan has ground that into the dust. That is Scott. That's entirely Scott.

I actually thought his press conference was pretty spot on. He admitted in good weather Stanley should of played at least twice.

He confirmed geelongs kick mark slow play statistical measure will continue.

Confirmed Mitch Duncan is no chance with a medial basically end of 2019.

Confirmed he has no idea what happens after a bye or the first quarter in a final.

Geelong is one of the most consistent finals teams to predict. If I didn't support this club I just back them to lose the first half & Lose match.

Super frustrating for all involved but we need to butter up for next week as sad and difficult it is right now.

Stanley, Guthrie and I'm going to throw constable into the mix because hey the midfield was terrible.

I suspect Gary Rohan is also in trouble so its actually a tricky list of ins 😂😂 bews and kolo we're ordinary but the in is Henderson haha.

Scott Selwood, Clark

Not really a lot of depth at the cattery but West Coast are beatable it will be an extremely difficult ask & will need to play 100% better than this week.
Thanks for presser update - I just don’t have the stomach to watch them.

I went to the VFL final last Saturday and thought Simpson was clearly our best, his work in traffic (in a massively physical game), tackling and disposal were very good. Problem is he’s not been given games this year (a blunder IMO) so I’m not sure they’ll risk him.

Expect Guthrie and Stanley in, both of whom (regardless of opinions) will perform better than the very average effort of any number of the team last night.

Why didn't Stanley play - was he injured or dropped?

You would not believe it, but he got dropped because the forecast said it was going to rain. Talk about no confidence in a player.

The thing that pi**ed me off the most was early in the last term we were 25 points down having kicked 5 goals in 3 quarters, and instead of playing on and trying to move the ball quickly we persevered with the same stagnant, long kick down the line crap for the first 5 minutes, and then took about 2 minutes too long to man up late in the quarter when Collingwood were trying to take time off the clock.

It would've been daylight robbery if we pinched that, but we didn't look like we wanted to, especially in the last term.

Kudos to Danger and Stewart. Only blokes who truly earned their pay cheque tonight.
I thought Kelly worked himself into the game and was good in the second half. I thought Tuohy did some good work, both up forward and in defense. The rest were not good enough.
