Review R23: The Good, Bad and Ugly vs. Port Adelaide

I received a phone call from a very close Port friend during the week and he said he took it "personally" (he has all of his teeth BTW).

It was blown way out of proportion in the media though.
Should have asked him how about the old comments regarding their suppporters also steal car hub caps. Really?

Any supporter base would be the same including us.

Seemed like we barely touched the footy after Rankine went off, and the lack of leadership as you say was clear.

Having a third year player carry on like Rachelle did is also a symptom of that.
You was going so well until your last sentence.

Is there a more punchable trio than Butters, Rozee and JHF? **** I hate them, especially that rat Butters
All good players, but I hate the way they play.
Butters and Rozee are the biggest divers in the AFL and need to be called out for it.
JHF should be called for holding the ball constantly as he always tries to barge through tackles. He's also a flog.

Your 'very close Port friend' is a bit of a loser

Dan Houston is playing it pretty smart here.

Port have three games to go maybe 4.

Doesn't want to lose the big coin the Vic club is offering him with an injury.

He also knows they are not good enough to win a Final against a good team. So no chance of missing out on a Premiership.

Goes the bump to get the next 4 games off, protect his body and be cherry ripe for preseason at his next club

So who's missing? Name and shame.
I said before the Showdown that our performance would either validate our recent form or make it look fraudulent.

Personally I always felt that our game against the Dogs and Cats, was a result of them taking the game easy and not a reflection of how well we were going.

How can the umpiring be so bad? Even before Rankine got KO'd the umpires had no control. And then, because they are so poor, they tried to take control of the game after the hit but made bad decision after bad decision only causing more anger and chaos.

Umpiring has never been better.........
I won't miss Ray at all. Absolute peanut who gets off on being in charge.

After the Rankine hit it was Crouch who he went up with his big pants on and yelled at to walk away, then Fog (and Crouch) was asking where the free kick was for him being lined up and he went full junior primary teacher mode and hits Fog with "We're gonna deal with it, so we can get him looked after, is that oookaaayyy?" and it was just dripping with condescension. Absolute tosser.

He was very patronizing.

Can you screen shot this and send to every footy talking head in Victoria with the comment 'not an accident'.
The Port scum are dirty snipers. Always have been.
No, but feel free if you wish

The thing is I don't think Port are actually a dirty team. They don't habitually do this in general.

My guess is that when they keep saying the word hate, we should believe them, because their actions are consistent with their words.

2020

The AFL’s version of the Bad Boy Pistons, the team everyone is starting to hate, is the Adelaide Football Club

2022

After Power great Chad Cornes said he despised Adelaide earlier in the week, vice-captain Ollie Wines doubled down in an extraordinary attack.

“I won’t get too personal on the news at this stage, but yeah, I do (hate them),” Wines told 7NEWS Adelaide.

“There’s certain things about that football club that I don’t like, I think it’s just the DNA of the club and what they’re about and the sense of entitlement they have.

2023

“I hate the football club; I think we all do,” Burton told SEN SA's The Run Home

“It was interesting how he said both clubs feel the hatred, he’s talking on behalf of Adelaide there, I’ve never heard an Adelaide player say they hate Port Adelaide," Bickley said on SEN SA Breakfast.

“There’s a genuine rivalry. There’s genuine hatred.

“I’m not frightened to use the word of hatred. It’s a sporting rivalry – it’s not a personal thing in any way.

Anyone who couldn't see this and tried to spin it as shirking is shit at knowing football. Commentators trying to drum up controversy aside.
It's low IQ power fans, so most of them, and Cornes.

Rachele isn't clean enough to pull the move off though, should've gotten over the ball more.

Although when he's on he is clean enough. One of the few players in our side with exceptional skills and X factor.

JHF very much has teal in his blood, and makes it known. A bit like Tex for us

That’s why it’s so easy to hate guys like him, as a rival club supporter

The thing is Rash is right. As a kid I went to Alberton a number of times as I had/have relatives (that I don’t associate with anymore) that are diehard port fans. I was genuinely scared as a kid being in the outer at Alberton - a complete and utter bunch of ferals. And guess what, several of those same relatives are now toothless (for reasons that I’ll let you guess).

I also spent plenty of time on the hill at the Parade and i only have fond memories of those times.

Port supporters are a waste of taxpayer money.

When i was about 8 an old lady hit me with her umbrella at Alberton because i called rohan Smith a baldy. I learned a few new words from dad shortly after that

I'm going to go against the grain and say that I don't think having a player like Bond who is only able to shut down a small forward is going to work long term in the modern AFL
Which sides haven’t got a small slippery forward?
Oh yeah us!

Here are my thoughts on that game:

Showdown 47: Jordan Gallucci concussed

Showdown 48: Jake Kelly concussed

Showdown 49: Ned McHenry concussed

Showdown 50: Brodie Smith and Will Hamill concussed

Showdown 51-55: No concussions! Well done on not concussing any of our players Port.

Showdown pre-season this year: Mark Keane concussed
Showdown 56: Isaac Rankine concussed

Just unlucky I guess
Didn’t Murphy get concussed in the goal after the siren win?
