Down here in Tassie we have an area called Eggs and Bacon Bay in the Huon region.

PETA is lobbying to have its name changed to Apple and Cherry Bay to promote healthy eating and to support the Vegan community.

For starters, Eggs and Bacon is actually scientifically proven as one of the healthiest breakfasts you can have.

And secondly, why the **** are we pandering to Vegans again?

Friend of mine commented that the Iconic Wineglass bay would also need to be renamed as it promotes drinking alcohol.

Gee watching the doco 'Blackfish'

So sad/angry on some many levels.
While I loved the documentary Blackfish, some of the impact wears off once you do a bit of research into it (which I usually do with these things as I'm a zoology major).

The documentary was slammed by independent sources for misleading information and falsifying interviews to spin it how they wanted it to come off. Some of the information they provided were outright lies.

The scene with the guy bleeding from the head "attacked by an orca"? Was actually a Seaworld worker who had been struck in the head by a monitor/piece of equipment back stage for example.

The former employees they interviewed came out after it's release and said that the quotes used were chopped and changed to support the documentary teams views rather than the views in the context they were originally given and retracted all support for the film.

Quotes are given claiming orcas in the wild are gentle and retreat into psychosis in captivity, while the latter may be true the former is outright wrong, Orcas can be extremely cruel and horrible in the wild, theres a reason they're nicknamed Killer whales. Killer whales will launch seals 10s of metres in the air to rupture their guts rather than straight up eating them, theyll also attack baby whales, drown them and eat only their tongues (a delicacy for orcas).

Some of the Orcas focused on in the documentary are not representative of Pod Orcas and are abandoned animals that have far more issues from the beginning than a normal Orca, not claiming that Orcas in captivity are exactly level headed though.

They argue for killer genes - anyone with passing familiarity with genetics will tell you the claims they make in the film are bold faced lies in regard to this and unlikely at best.

Not everything Blackfish claims is wrong, but a fair chunk of it is misleading to get across a point that the documentary maker wanted to make, they went in with a preconceived idea and shaped the evidence to fit their story rather than telling it how it is.

Would highly recommend checking out some anti-blackfish videos on youtube as they will explain far better than I can where the film went wrong and as a whole they're pretty entertaining in themselves.

What Blackfish did very well was put together a well presented documentary that managed to impress feelings on people that didn't give a shit at all about Orcas in the past and create an absolute shit storm which could be argued did not achieve the goal the documentary maker aimed for. It created trouble but no solutions.

Highly recommend watching the second video, video title should be "Former SeaWorld trainer" he has no affiliation with SW any longer. "Blackfish is a movie designed to make you feel, not to think"

Has anyone bought their kids a gurnsey off the roo shop and had their customised name and number added???

Wondering how it looks.

Yep, sizes 5 and 7. Numbers yes, names no. They have smaller verrsions of the official AFL numbers you see on adult jumpers, supplied by the AFL and including the AFL motif. They look great dus.

Doco midday tomorrow (Saturday on one HD) about Tom Wills, the inventor of Aussie rules.
The book about him was fascinating, hopefully a one hour doco will do him some justice.
A great character who, by the end decided to stab himself in the heart with a pair of tailors scissors (probably had a vision of future umpiring standards, particularly at Subiaco!)
Check it out
