Not sure if I'm still welcome here as my flags changed, but I can give my 2 cents if you'd like

For those that don't know, 000 is Mitch's brother.........nothing secret here but thought it prudent to put it up.......just in case.

Look forward to what you have to say. :thumbsu:

Even just checking scores and stats during the game it was obvious the Bears were getting far more ball, especially the midfield. It was basically Cripps vs Brisbane midfield with some handy support from Murphy.

Heck Cripps had what, 14 clearances?? A fair chunk of our total.

I'm actually a bit worried how much load we'll put on the fella.
Cripps needs Graham and Holman in the middle with him. Put Murphy on a HFF with instructions to run into the midfield. BB and Thomas on the wings and we should be ok going forward.

For the 2nd time in a month we have failed to score a goal in not 1 but 2 quarters in a game (Hawks and Lions), thought I'd look into the number of goals in a qtr to see if something stands out as to why we're currently unable to score, under Barker in particular.

We must acknowledge injuries and the fact that Barker is playing more kids with lighter frames and less experience but I'll point out that Barkers 1st 3 game set was the best run we've had in terms of goals scored......what happened?

19 games, 76 qtrs, 192 goals, ave 2.53 goals a qtr.
Goals in Qtr:0 1 2 3 4 5 6+
# of Times: 8 16 16 18 6 6 6

Broken down to MM (9 games, 93 goals...8 games, 84 goals*) and Barker (10 games, 99 goals) *(Rnd 9 vs Syd is included under MM)
GiQ: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6+
MM: 2 9 8 8 4 2 3
Bar:6 7 8 10 2 4 3

MM games broken into sets of 3. (take out rnd 9 and sets of 4)*
GiQ: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6+
R1-3:2 1 4 1 2 1 1
R1-4:2 2 4 1 2 2 3*
R4-6:0 4 1 4 0 {1 2} 3 qtrs are StK along with a 1 goal qtr
R7-9:0 4 3 3 2 0 0
R5-8:0 5 4 6 1 0 0*

Barkers 10 games broken down to Rnds 10-13, Rnds 14-16 and 17-20
GiQtr: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6+
R10-13:0 0 2 4 2 3 1
R14-16:2 4 2 4 0 0 0
R17-20:4 3 4 2 0 1 2

My belief of what's gone wrong is that our fitness is awful followed by lack of skill level and inexperience. As mentioned, R10-13 is our most consistent period while we already had a number of injuries to best 22/promising youngsters. Since MM has been at the club and the hiring of Butters, Carlton's ability to run out 3 qtrs has been a disgrace...fitness, running out games and putting 2 consecutive qtrs together has been a problem for many years but in the past 3 years, it has been exceptionally poor.....starting off the seasons behind the 8 ball. Look at MMs sets of 4* and the drop off between the 2, quite a difference. Add to this that we had our Bye after R10 and were able to have a much needed rest. Our general pressure and tackling have improved, so has our work rate.....the number of 4+ goal qtrs have stayed around the same between MM and Barks but the number of 0 goal qtrs is troublesome.

Higher work rate > goals > more energy used > poor fitness by AFL standards > lack of skills > turnover > run and defend > more energy used > goals flow other way > no goals, no energy, no confidence.

I would rather Jammo not shake the flogs hand then to be having a laugh like we didn't just get beaten by the bottom of the table team.

Proof that one letter in one word can completely change the meaning.
But agree with the point intended.

Anyone got a video grab of the infamous 3rd quarter 'Cripps handball'? Wasn't in the official highlights... all I saw was Lions goal after Lions goal.

Cripps is the best (and possibly only) truly great drafting decision we've made in the last 6 years.

If the bullies can turn it around then anyone can. Look at the power too.
They were touted as GF material and where are they now?! And we knocked em off for gods sake!
I still think the blues can turn it around quicker than most think. It's been an absolute howler of a year
and it's been hard watching loss after loss. I'm hoping we see some sort of a spark or glimmer before the years out.
It's really important that we don't totally roll over.

The difference between the Dogs and us is a year (maybe two) of nailing draft picks. We get that right over the next two seasons and we might be able to exceed expectations. At the moment our list isn't quite up to it.

Poor teamwork and mutual understanding makes a team look like they are unfit. I think it's more to do with inefficient running, not supporting each other and chasing the opposition for four quarters.

About as right as you are becoming. The last prediction I could find here you made before round 1 was on 11 Feb. You predicted we would come 12th.

Hence me saying this:

NO JOKE; A week before the first round I tipped Carlton for the wooden spoon. How right I am becoming.

I changed my predictions a just before the round 1 match between Carlton and Richmond Windhover. I was constantly reminding my brother that the blues would end up with the wooden spoon prior to the first game.

I do recall posting that in February, but I tipped Carlton for rock bottom on the ladder after the preseason matches have finished, since I saw little to no upside for the blues at the time.

I should have deleted that post and I feel bad that I didn't. I'm being dead-set honest.

I feel sorry for our next coach. So much work to do! I just hope the Board are patient this time!
I don't. A result like this can only leave us with minimal expectations next year.

I don't. I hope the Board set the new coach realistic KPIs that have little to do with winning games and much to do with developing a long term game plan that might make us look bad in 2016 but has promise and will show the coach who can and who cannot play a part in the game plan.

If the coach achieves the pre-set KPIs then the Board should be patient. If the coach doesn't achieve his own KPIs then let's get rid of him sooner rather than later. Had MM been required to meet KPIs (getting into the top 4 was the main one) he could have been told to go a year earlier, as he should have been.
