Ahead of their rebuild really? They got their current coach after we got Bolton. The thread you quote is one opinion. Anyway agree to disagree.

Ummm rebuild doesn't start when you change coaches, would be like suggesting our rebuild started when Teague took over.

You are firing blanks

The losses to Richmond & Geelong highlighted the gap between Carlton & the top teams. Geelong toyed with us yesterday, and the size difference and body shapes were clearly evident. That will change next year. We need Coniglio, and another small crumbing forward. We need to get Harry playing on the ball and Kreuzer resting in the forward line b/c he has a good pair of hands and will always be a threat in the forward line.

As for Geelong they are the ultimate flat track bullies. I would not be surprised if they went out in straight sets.

Break it down for everyone:

Shocking conditions.
Cats had the wind for two consecutive quarters.
Players switched off early.
Crap ground to play AFL.
Watch closely most players were laughing throughout the game even ED when he was on the bench with an injury.
No point injuring themselves badly.
Big preseason and trade period and no reason why we can’t make top 8.

Simples.

Never said we were ahead of the Lions of last year, said we are ahead of their rebuild, but nice melt

Just makes me wonder what Greg Swann was doing at Carlton when he was getting paid 900k per season.
He has done a great job at Brisbane (with a lot of AFL assistance which we never saw or received) no doubt, but again he just seemed to blend into the background. What was his legacy apart from becoming very rich?

Therein sums up the problem at Carlton for the past 19 years.

Geez it’s hard for our midfield when our ruckman basically refuses to contest the centre bounce time after time. Kreuzer was shocking yesterday. Has been beaten badly by some average ruckman this year. Ruck depth is an area of concern! We have nothing coming through in the reserves. The bits I’ve seen and what I’ve read TDK doesn’t spend a lot of time in the ruck yet

You are making assumptions we targeted all those players you mentioned

Players and their managers aren't stupid, our rebuild is ahead of where the Lions were, we will improve again next year to at least being a mid table side, without attracting elite talent
i didnt say we were after all of those players. we were definitely after mids last year shiel the obvious one. but in general we havent attracted many elites yet...docherty was a great get and judd before him but cant think of any others since judd?

hard to predict what will happen next year because ones position on the ladder is relative to how other teams go. what if saints roos sydney dees port freo improve about the same or more so than we do next year? they all have just as much talent. ladder positions may not change too much only time will tell.

Games where dow doesn't run hard enough defensively, games where Fisher refuses to get his hands dirty etc. Dow was dropped and looked a bit better in his return, Fisher wasn't and didn't improve.

Kick up the ass, or for the modern person who can't take criticsm, need to work on their deficiencies over simmer

You’re in another universe. A couple of kids learning how to play at the highest level. Conditional is such a nasty inference for any player and certainly not deserving of these two.

I refuse to let your sour puss view of the world dampen my enthusiasm for the future.

It’s always an interesting one talking about when a rebuild starts because teams are always rebuilding. From this weekends sides I think we have brought in 15 new players over the last four years. Brisbane have brought in 15 and even Geelong 14.

Geez we’ve got some negative nancy’s dancing on the grave on what was the Carlton’s 2019. Simmo cooked! I just shakes me head.
Oh no, don't do an autopsy on an autopsy thread.🤣

Look I'm not saying he's cooked, after all it was just one game and he wasnt the only player who was poor, but it was concerning to see him brushed aside again and again, and sometimes he actually seemed to avoid physical contact. That's not the Simmo I remember.

On waking I realise that it hurts to lose but I had got so used to it that I hardly noticed before Teague come along.
Seems to me a good thumping is going to burn in their minds and Teague is going to use it. He says to learn from but there will be more to it than that. It will get subtly rubbed in their noses. In the long run it was the best thing could have happened. Clearly all the stars lined up to ensure it.

It was not a good game. Second half better.

A lot of the kids look very tired.

Pre-season beckons, I would not want to be the player who comes back sub-par. Russell awaits

Don't know what to make of this. Richmond got done at Geelong in 2017 and then won by 10 goals against them about 4 weeks later in final then won cup.

Means we're going to win the flag this year.

Pretty sure....

Well that was a real footy experience today.

The cold front edged over the ground at quarter time and then it rained for a couple of quarters. It stopped for the last quarter but by that stage we were drenched and the wind chill factor of zero (slight exaggeration) meant shivering for the last quarter. Daisy’s send off took forever (well it felt like it) and by that stage I was concerned that my son was developing a case of hypothermia. I took remedial action after the game by purchasing a couple of coffees and a doughnut for each of us. This led to much mirth where we forgot about the match and the cold. This allowed us some time, during the walk back to the car, to contemplate the mistake we made of going to the footy at Sleepy Hollow.

I can relate.

I can't really recall an instance of having regret for attending a game even after some terrible performances in the past few years. Making the long trip to watch us get comprehensively beaten by a classy opposition in pretty awful weather conditions has filled me with regret - despite wrapping up very well for the conditions I've come down with something today

The only one firing blanks is yourself - one eyed blanks that diminish your credibility and allow posters from other teams to point to "crazy Carlton posters".

If we inject some facts:

1. they had the go home 5 in 2013. You can't say the rebuild started then
2. in 2014 their first pick was pick 44 but they got Beams and Christensen. So one could argue they started then
3. In 2015 they went all into the draft like we did

A lot would argue they started in 2015, same year as us but have been able to trade in better players (Neale). I disagree with that - I think they had better older players to start with (Rich, Taylor etc).

The point is though to argue our rebuild is ahead of theirs lacks all credibility.

Now that doesn't mean sack SOS etc - not at all. I am not convinced Brisbane will win a flag with that list (I am tipping a straight sets exit). I think we will win one before them BUT at this point in time no logical person could say our rebuild is ahead of theirs.
