One of the only reasons we won was the ruck in my opinion. Allowed us to control the contest and Cripps to accumulate 42.
+29 hitouts, +6 to advantage, +7 clearances, +3 at the centre bounce... what control are you talking about? Mostly got us the opportunity to get first hand on the ball, and when they actually put it to advantage GWS were happy to corral Cripps and try to get him to spray the clearing kick.

His game markedly improved when he stopped taking the bait, but their tactic still left him gassed come the final quarter. We need to identify this sort of thing a lot faster instead of getting sucked in.
He played a brilliant game all day..

Or did Toby get too much of the ball for your liking?

The only time Greene scored was when Fisher was in that sweeping role.
Firstly, not sure he even played on him the whole game. Secondly, when Fisher was in the mix, Newman had about 7 of his 9 intercepts. So no, he was mostly getting run ragged through trying to play his role and then only able to offer a simple and meek receiving option.

Fisher, Hollands, Durdin - and others - tidied things up so that he had the capacity to pick better moments, as did Saad.

Unbelievable… get on board!

How close did you get to praising Newman for keeping Greene to 5 touches? Asking for a friend.

Gave Greene an absolute bath.

Greene - 5 disposals, 1 goal

… and there it is ladies and gentlemen

Legitimately one of the most baffling posts ever written.

We started the game like we thought it would be a simple task knowing we had beaten them comfortably last year and just come off a win vs the premiers they got ahead of themselves and forgot for a moment what got them those results. We tightened up significantly at quarter time and defensively were pretty good and while a number of players were well off their best still should have had a comfortable win if we could kick even a little straighter.

In the end it was a scrappy game where we just did enough, i'd like to think even without that lucky free kick goal to swing the momentum we would have found enough to get over the line but if we want to be a good side we need to realise if you want to make these easier games easier you need to attack then the same way as you do the games against the top teams and blow the margin out early so they mentally give up and stop trying so you yourself can coast.

Our players waste a lot of chances, that's for sure...
Thankfully, aside from Richmond, percentage doesn't matter this year.

Need some more run and class in this team to compete with the likes of Collingwood and Melbourne.

Cuningham, Walsh and Boyd are crucial.

Some run & disposal of those 3 will help a lot to the aesthetics & efficiency of our game, I hope.
Can even add M.Kennedy into the mix as well for some further assistance (disposal/goals/marking).

These numbers are the only reason we won the game.

The rucks drove that. And SOS was one of our best as a forward.

Chalk and cheese to when we has SOS as 2nd ruck and were pushing sht up hill all game to win clearances.

He went at 85%, 8 score involvements, only 2 clangers (one of which was a free against).
I wish the rest of the team's disposal needed the same work.

Cerra is almost becoming underrated around here. Probably because he's never our best mid on the day but he's always going about his business and playing his role. A definite quiet achiever.

I don't think he'll ever be a prolific match winner or a purely dominant player but he's going to be a very good player for a very long time.

Happy with his game.

The game was scrappy, but I think a lot had to do with the poor surface. Players seemed uncertain of their footing, conditions seemed slippery and it was windy.

GWS were flattered by the scoreline, were full strength and have a good quality list.

While I would've liked a bigger win, I'm happy with the result.
