Honestly, what plan in place did they have for Cripps? He single handedly destroyed them lol
Sadly it's too much along the lines of he single-handedly racked up fantasy points, though it's not that bleak. Even if you attribute all of the extra clearances we had over GWS directly to him - and I will pay you that at the centre bounce - he had the worst kicking efficiency on the ground (29%), all while having 17 kicks.

The only other player who was in the ball park of being this awful with the football was Coniglio, but he had a really mediocre day. Basically both of them sprayed a lot of attacking opportunities as they struggled to exit the contest.

The two rucks provided Cripps a little more first use, but this was so constantly directed at him that the opposition had a simple plan to negate its influence. This is the stoppage equivalent of how we kicked to Fevola under the Pagan era. Voss snapped Carlton's hand off when the opportunity came to get Fevola, what a surprise that he's done it again with Cripps.

Loves his favourites and his focal points.

Isn’t he.

Nice to see he’s stringing more than one game together. Has performed well for someone who hasn’t played consistent football in 2years
Expected ACL when he went down clutching his knee.

So relieved when he got up and jogged off!

Great to see him finding a bit of form today. Continuity import now. Missed than one kick into the middle but that didn't worry me. Keep trying those Mitch!

So does a “gift from the Gods” free kick count as a minor miracle? I reckon it does.

I want us to be successful & take the win, but that was next level horrible.

We have some serious issue to address, Fish & Lob need a spell, our set up & ball movement is disgusting.
We aren’t a good side & we should be, for the love of god let’s start trying something different
No one in the twos that deserves a call up in their positions.

OMG. I have no words.

So this big plan that the Giants had for Cripps that you have been telling us about was to let him get the ball knowing that he'd kick badly?

Voss wanting Fevola umpteen years ago is irrelevant to anything now and completely and totally irrelevant to anything to do with Cripps in the middle. Deflection of the highest (and yet lowest) order.

Newman is an absolute star, a heart and soul player. Crucial to our club that he stays fit.

Has not put a foot wrong since stepping into the club.

Newman BOG along with Cripps.

Keeping Toby to 5 disposals and a goal is incredible...he kicked 8 over the first 2 weeks. Got 24 disposals himself. He sticks his tackles.

And Crippa kept winning the ball and getting it moving our way when we needed it.

Other honourable mentions:

Gov - saved us numerous times with his intercept marking and strong tackling. The guy is seriously quick and love seeing him chase someone down and wrap them up in a bear hug tackle. One of our few backmen that attempts aggressive kicks.

Acres - was huge, particularly in the first half. Brave to play so well through his injury...you could see him carrying his arm and grimacing in pain everytime there was contact.

Mots - seemed to play higher up the ground today and got involved in the play...looked very comfortable and did some nice things.

Doc - a little hit and miss game from Doc but overall very solid and another long bomb goal.

Owies - 2 goals in the 1st quarter before his injury to go with his 3 goals last week. Is pretty smart at getting into good positions and is currently our most dangerous small forward in terms of hitting the scoreboard.

Straight kicking would have had us winning 30-50pts tonight.

Only our poor goal kicking skills kept them in it - Voss subtext in the presser indicated there’s work to be done in our F50 before next weeks game.

The fact we had over 30 shots at goal (including a few no scores) is a good sign.

Didnt play great and tough conditions with the state of the ground and being slippery, but to get that many shots is a positive.

Correct. We actually did last year against the Saints when we kicked 10 - 18.

Some good, some bad (including the ground which impacted on players ability to use the ball), plenty of bad. Learn from both columns and move on.

We are still unbeaten in 2023.

Will be 3rd or 4th on the ladder at the end of this round and only one of 3 or 4 undefeated teams this year.

Nice start to 2023!

Lol, he asked a question re: supercoach scoring, clangers reduced his scoring.
Don’t take it to heart breaky.
I'll answer you rather than two peanut gallery members I blocked years ago:

If you know the ball is going to go somewhere a lot of the time, and that player is hard to stop in the direct contest - eg. breaks tackles, has speed, strength, read, whatever - you might find yourself in a position where your best move is to not try to get a hand on them, but to shutdown the quality and opportunity of where the ball goes next.

For a forward, you often drop a player in front and focus on pressuring the ball carrier. For a midfielder, you sit on their nearby team mates and get in the way of their exit from the stoppage, at the bare minimum sending them off on an angle, ideally on the wrong side for them to kick cleanly on. You have the defensive playmaker sit off them with space and time to react.

Tell me, how many times was Cripps able to exit a stoppage and get onto his right foot for a clean kick? 💡
