Our skills were generally poor, our pressure for most of the game was worse, and our goalkicking was downright ugly. But we still created half again as many scores as GWS and came away with the win.

So what went right for us get the result? It's true that GWS is not exactly a top side, but as others have said, last year we'd probably have lost that game. Despite everything, seems like a tick for our underlying system, the foundation you have when everything else isn't working.

Could really do with a game soon where we're firing on all cylinders though.

I roasted him on a couple of occasions on the game day thread, but honestly thought Fisher was pretty influential in that final quarter, did a couple of potential goal saving acts and thus still deserves to be in the team next week.

Really frustrating player to watch at times, but I am glad he showed poise when we needed in the final stanza.

Was poor in a few areas, wasn't alone, but worked hard in the last. Also saved 2 goals, working back to our defensive square

So much negative to be said but I will say something about Fisher.

He was bloody useless for three quarters.

And then in the last quarter he gave everything he had for the team and was brilliant.

Where the heck was that in the first three quarters?

LOB cannot be the sub again next week he’s not match fit sitting on the bench for 3/4 every week. VFL time for him.

Cowan did very well today I thought. Battled on and held his own against bigger opponents and under pressure.

Silvagni justified why he’s a great clubman and should be in when healthy.

Next time can we kick 20.10 and just be done with the game by 3/4 time? Geez.

Not convinced about where we are at yet but will hold more positive hope.

I guess we would have lost that game last season ala the Gold Coast beat up we copped.
yeah agree but gws were poor as well. we were less bad than them i guess in the end. but they had home ground advantage so im happy with the win for now.

Ugly win or not, you guys should all thank me and the covid I caught this week. In previous years I would've driven up from Canberra for this game (and had plans to do so with my 6 yo daughter today) before driving home after we lost by 80 or 90 points. Didn't go and we eek out a win. Coincidence? Yes

Welcome to the Covid club. Been a rough week. Carlton made it even more rough!

  • Win on the road, on a trip we usually struggle with (we did again today) ✅
  • Cripps back to his best ✅
  • Holding onto a game we otherwise have coughed up in the past ✅
  • Youngsters in Hollands and Motlop with fantastic games ✅
  • Winning a game where 3 of 4 KPP struggled to make significant impact ✅

Although there’s negatives we need to look at the positives, some very important at this time of year. We take this and run. Bank the 4 pts, recover, hopefully a clean bill of health apart from Owies and head onto Fri evening. Newman did a fantastic job in defence today and and when we ran and gunned with handball chains we looked good, with no final product.

Cerra was better today as well, and Docherty got well involved after his midfield change at Qtr time. JSOS also deserves a shout out for his work up the ground and what he produced especially in the first half. Stressed and frustrated, but happy. Also, have to give credit to GWS in their defensive set up/efforts after Q1. Go Baggers

They kicking it on his head or over it sometimes even our own players are jumping on his head cutting him open- I thought he has shown great intensity at ground level . Our fwd line set up is atrocious .. goals will come for H --

Well.... glass half full:

We won. SOS played well. Cripps good. The rucks dominated the hitouts. Defence stood up again overall.

Negatives:

Our kicking into the forward line is lobotomised gerbil level. Bomb it long. Doesn't work? Oh well try that again. Still doesn't work? Oh well let go again. All fooking game the same moronic stuff. What I wouldn't give for a skills coach who could teach our guys to "drop it into the swimming pool" as Geelong call it.

It is the only thing standing between us and a premiership. It's always been a problem but today was next level.

Cripps was outstanding but his kicking into the forward line is baffling. Our worst offender. It's like he's trying to give it to GWS.

In summary. We won. Move on.

Is it good to win narrowly while playing poorly? Absolutely. Is it good for half your wins to be like that? Hell no.

Collingwood made the top 4 doing the same thing last year. Were a kick from a grand final.

Take the 4 points and the high blood pressure and celebrate a win.
