i know the conditions weren't great, but we can't keep playing reid

she was a high draft pick but we gotta just let it go, lacks coordination and urgency which is especially vital in the aflw

1 touch for the whole game, surely literally any other player would've had at least an equal impact if not more
She’s utterly hopeless in a contested situation , waste persisting with when there are others . Bacon was promising today. Pleased with the effort reckon we could play a diff card or two should we meet again , missed KB and their depth plus 10 more frees shone out in the end ,,,until the next time

Mon confirmed her position as the best player in the comp today. Small consolation I know.

Her skills are freakish. Plays and moves like no other in the competition.

She also cracks in when players twice her size would hesitate.

She’s unbelievably good , tbh it’s a shame W footy doesn’t have more like her , alas we can be grateful she chose the tigers and loves the joint

I thought they battled hard against one of the better teams in the AFLW. It also showed we still have to improve on our current list. We need to add to our forward line & our midfield as I don't think we can compete with the better teams without these additions, as we still have players that just are not good enough when the heat is on.

Molan had a very very good season at CHB with Essendon in VFLW.

We may have played her out of position. :)

Molan never really seemed to have her confidence up playing with us.

Meg MacDonald was in this years vflw team of the year.
Just on early draft picks
Ellie McKenzie is one outve the box, 2020 #1 pick but the talent wasn’t at that level in 2019.
Molan at #7 didn’t work out I dont think but spare a thought for the Bulldogs. They got the #1 pick from 2019 Gabby Newton who’s now at Freo.
Tiges traded that #1 pick to the Bulldogs for Mon Conti.
😎

With kb there we have two good keys in her and greiser , Montana was gonna be the ace recruit as a ruck forward fk it all she did an ACL , only 22yo so hopeful a bright future still
Hopefully fordy and bacon develop ,,,some positive signs so far , yassir needs help , she’ can’t do it all

great as she is. The opposing gun Garner hits the scoreboard. Conti, Egan, McKenzie, Sheerin do not. Nor do our rucks.
In crap conditions, 3 goals wins you a game.

Its difficult for small fwds to have much impact. Yassir always. Ford a bit.

McKenzie & Sheerin have been good in the middle. Both long kicks, be good if Mon, McKenzie & Sheerin scored more

My only concern with this is that KB is not getting any younger, so can see injuries creeping in & Greiser is one dimensional. I agree with Montana, but she wont be that mobile KPP that we need along the line of KB. Greiser reminds me of Charlie Dixon from PA, she is a big unit, but doesn't take advantage of her size. Also agree that Yassir needs more help, as she is a little pocket rocket that gives her all.
We really need to be targeting either through trade of draft to target the best KP forward we can find also add another tenacious small forward. I look at Nth Melbourne & look at there list & they were still able to go & handpick the players they needed from other clubs, who I considered really decent players. Last of all we need to add to our midfield to help out Conti as they shut down McKenzie & outside of Conti, no one stood out.

They didn’t kick away though.
We are a lot stiffer around the ball now, which is good.
We dealt with the Carlton mids and this weekend we’ll come up against BRI Davey and Bonici from the pies.
That’ll be a test, they have to win every game to have a shot at finals.

I agree with you about a fwd, Im not sure if a small is the answer.
Gabby is a someone I think who’s aggressive enough in the air.

We hit the scoreboard three times after quarter time and they hit it ten times.
Its not going to be enough to beat the best by stopping to em scoring we have to be able kick 5-7 goals against
Bris, Adel, North.
Even Hawthorn, they absorb alotve goals but they score heavily.

I’d like to see Ferg swing Gabby fwd like Balta every now and then to try and pinch a goal

I think it was a good effort, no doubt. I think the wet weather probably helped our cause, as when the game started to dry out Nth Melbourne started to take control. I think it is probably a good idea to give Gabby a chance to be forward just to mix it up. I also think Greiser needs to play more a CHF role, as a deep forward she doesn't get involved enough, yet she seems to be able to get a few possessions further up the ground & she is capable of kicking it from 40+ meters out. We cant keep the status quo against the better teams as we will end up coming up short imo.

Montana from what I could make of her highlights looked to be that mobile tall that could take a grab and also get involved , much diff to greiser
She is having a better year and using that bulk to advantage now
As we know talent is still fairly thin in W ranks
We have a decent share , I think if everything went right we could have a fair. Crack at NM
Kb and shev a must and def don’t play Luke too , she must be a spare only

Yep agree , Shev & KB will certainly add some much needed skill to the team. I'm probably looking beyond this season, so we can continue to improve & then maybe challenge the better teams & hopefully get to the holy grail.

won't be a quick fix, not a year or 2
realistically 3 or 4 years, to play that level and have the players that can do it every week

don't think KB or Sheerin will be a part of our 1st Flag, unless they play past 35 years of age
this year's draft/trade and next years, we'll have to nail it

no more Dallaways and Hicks trades we have enough of those type of players
no more Reid draft picks, can't afford **** ups like that

thankfully the drafts are now National, and this year is very deep, some calling it a super draft

I agree with what your saying. I think the big thing we need to do in recruiting is target footballers. They need to be able to kick, mark & tackle at a decent level. We need to stop filling in list spaces with average to poor footballers & there lies the main issue, as this will take a few seasons to get right.
That's where we might be slightly disadvantaged as some of the newer teams have more kids that have grown up with a footy in their hands over our squad that may have some athletic type players, that just don't have that footy nous.

Montana fits the bill of what you scoped , I think we could beat nm , kb would need a day out and we need to really plan how to contain garner .
I don’t mind the early signs I’ve seen from bacon and fordy , tis early days but if they can develop like millzy has we will have some good players . I’ve been a bit underwhelmed by dallaway , was expecting more , she barely touches it

Yes, quite an incredible player, panther like in movement, courage of a tiger. She seems to have a happy knack of bouncing a bit in tackles - maybe that's why she seems to ride them as well anyone.

Bonny Toogood was the one in my opinion, when she went to Essendon, oh well. Let's see how Grieser develops I suppose, she is still young.

It's not like the Club is not out there trying. There are players on our list we are yet to see. Some things never go as planned or hoped - recruited aged 22, now aged 24:
Richmond used its only selection (pick No. 24) in the AFLW Season Eight Supplementary Draft to recruit Castlemaine key forward Shelby Knoll. A prominent goalkicker, Knoll booted 52 goals in 16 games in Castlemaine’s 2022 premiership side. Knoll was set to spend the 2023 season at VFLW club Casey Demons before the Tigers elevated her straight into the AFLW. Unfortunately, Knoll suffered an ACL injury during the 2023 season, which has also made her inactive for all of 2024. The 23-year-old is yet to feature at AFLW level.

Imogen Brown could deliver some midfield speed and link up work:
Brown joined the Club as a replacement player from the Sydney Swans Academy and VFLW team following Katelyn Cox’s season-ending knee injury in July. Brown averaged 13.5 disposals per game this year while playing for the Swans at VFLW level, catching the eye with her speed, running ability, and link-up play. The dasher also averaged 21 disposals and eight tackles and booted five goals across four matches for Sydney’s Coates League team earlier in 2024.

Our spread of kickers has improved, still not good enough to rely on kicking chains even if we could spread. The area I would be sinking so much work into is running handball (hopefully they are) - this is our biggest, most obvious void. It's where we give the ball up too much.

I really think they need to throw more money at the AFLW
Venues for broadcasting, Tier 2-3 players

At the moment
2 players on 72 thou. Tier 1
6 players on 55 thou. Tier 2
6 players on. 47.3 thou. Tier 3

Everyone else on 39 thou Tier 4

That’s why Wardlaw is at Saints and Toogood chose Essendon.

Maybe if there’s another 100thou on offer in the cap, (2 more Tier 2 or higher rate for the 6) players can spend more time working on their game and it could improve the whole industry.

yeah the Tier system is in because the AFL pays the players wages, not the clubs
sooner the Tier system is stopped the better, maybe make the clubs pay 40-50% wages

maybe bump up the bottom 30% players wages so they can work on footy a lot more
slowly but surely it's getting there, but it'll take baby steps
