I would keep Murphy at all costs. If we get our rebuild right in the coming years, he could be the icing on the cake playing as a small forward with the occasional run in the midfield.

Murphy's regressing so badly is bewildering.

He looked right at home as captain in 2012. Reckon he was BOG for us in 3/4 of those games.

You suggesting we should tank?
Nah start to mould your list and give opportunity to players who can impact in the future and not coach or select the team for the now, results now do not matter !!

Gibbs and Murphy will be fine was they have a better support cast around them, stronger, younger and more skilled team mates !!

Replace the likes of Walker, Curnow, Armfield, Rowe, Wood, Jones, Carrazzo, Ellard etc with some exciting skillful young talent, improve your development and be patient !!

Crikey moses. Who was Elliott's opponent? Tuohy. Who was Green's opponent? Tuohy. Who was Cripps' opponent? Tuohy.

Not only that when he was third man in at contests today against McStay he was ineffective. The facts really are that he's had a couple of good games this year amongst some rot... but he's not the only one being rotten.

They are not always on them and Touhy is used to run off.

He can't do it all.

If Touhy's job was as a 1970's defender were you stay on your man all day and do nothing else, then fine. But it's not.

They want him running off his guy all day, setting up play. So he does that, gets a long way off his man only to see the ball come screaming back at 200 mph . Frequently finds himself running with the flight or out of position.

Tough gig, but he's still done remarkably well this year all things considered.

- Jones. Just wow. Clearly a confidence player and is just getting worse as time goes on. My mail is that Watson is on the outer in a big way at the club (both with players and coaches), and is a long way from ever being selected (yet he kicked 4 in his last game for us. Has Jones even kicked 4 this whole season?). I hope Jones' performance today makes everyone see past whatever it is bothering them about Watson.
Not sure Jones has had 4 kicks in a game this year, let alone 4 goals.

Mick has zero chance of getting a new contract. Trigg or the board need to tell him that, and let him make a call on his own future. Tell him he's more than welcome to coach out the year or leave on his terms - we owe a true great of the game at least that - but that if he stays there has to be an emphasis on development. Meaning no more Ellard, Armfield, Walker etc regardless of what he thinks they may be able to do in the short term.
For those fearing we'll butcher our early pick, remember we've changed recruiting staff and SOS had a vastly better strike rate at GWS than our previous incumbent. Reckon just about every player should be considered for a trade. I'd put a premium on Bell, Docherty, Cripps and Tuohy, and for the rest its a matter of take what you can get.

Micky Maltshake needs to get the Lemon & Sars.

RAtten was a dud coach. How many times did we see that same dumb look on his face when he was continually outcoached. With this list, im not sure anyone can fix it.

That's garbage.
A free kick from a prelim final in 2011 and then took a team crippled with injury in 2012 to within bee's dick of a finals birth.

Persist with Jones?

In which of his 70+ previous games has indicated to you he'll become more than a D-Grade?
Get Sav to work with Jones... or better yet, make Sav our forwards development coach after we sack Brad Green tomorrow... just have to convince SOS to come out and be our defensive development coach for a while until we can get a better replacement for Barker!

The players didn't cost Ratten his job. There I said it. Injuries cost Ratten his job. We had the most horrific run of injuries in VFL/AFL history that year. We almost made the bloody finals that year too. The players played for Ratts. We had one bad loss - to the Gold Coast Suns when we lost yet another player in the first quarter.
We had a number of bad losses in 2012, no more so than the loss against Adelaide when we kicked 5 goals in the first quarter & only managed another 3 for the game while Adelaide kicked a further 15 goals. This was with a team that had 16 players with more than 100 games experience.

Realistically, that Gold Coast game, when the players would have known Ratts' head was on the chopping block, was a perfect opportunity to demonstrate that Ratts still had their support. Instead they stunk it up & cost a Carlton legend his job. The same players will end up costing Malthouse his job & will then continue to play entitled, self preservation style football for the next coach who comes along.

That would be our delusional fans who over rate our list and performances, weight of money determines those sort of odds, probably many who come on here have done their arse and post the way they do because they foolishly have bet money on us and lost !!

Not this punter old bean , wouldn't have backed us with bad money , just sour didn't have a bit on the lions at 4.00

Not according to Mick who said on radio today pre game that Tuohy was not a good run and carry option.

Have noticed he runs himself into trouble far too often and also puts his team mates under the pump in doing so.

Seems to be our thing doesn't it? Buckley runs into trouble. Tuohy. Even Yarran when he's in the team.

Perhaps the issue isn't them... perhaps it's what's happening up the ground to provide a link?

To be fair to Ratts and the players from that day....Ratten was already gone by that stage. Ratten could've made it to the 2nd week of the finals that year and still been given the boot for MM.

None of those players mentioned above are likely to attract drafts picks under 20. If we want 4 or 5 draft picks under 20, we have to trade players like Gibbs, Yarran, maybe Henderson. I don't think this is going to happen.

Or what's not happening. It's funny that Carlton has a reputation for being downhill skiiers, but if anything, they're the opposite of that this year. There is no run at all.

Maybe or they over think or over analyze everything.

Buckley held onto the ball at one stage today for longer then he needed when running out of defense and instead of hitting up Clem Smith who was well in the clear he eventually put himself under undue pressure and kicked it to the next option down the line and out on the full.

Never said those players mentioned above are going to attract 4 or 5 picks under 20 did I ??

But hear this, those players mentioned are our current supporting cast for our current stars/leaders etc and need to be upgraded somehow.

Move them on for anything and back in your development and be patient, may take 4 years but it needs to start now !!

Yes, yes, yes, I definitely agree with this.

There was one passage on the wing (can't remember which player exactly) where a Carlton player got possession of an errant Brisbane kick, went to handball to a player right next to him in pretty much the same position, decided against it and then thought he was now under pressure so just ended up throwing the ball on the boot and kicking it high and long to nobody.
