Not according to Mick who said on radio today pre game that Tuohy was not a good run and carry option.

Have noticed he runs himself into trouble far too often and also puts his team mates under the pump in doing so.

Just read that MM's comments that he believes Doc and Zach would be leading the B&F so far this year.

So, I expect he's doing something right.

How could he not excel with the likes of Tuohy, Buckley, Rowe and Walker been so reliable down back?
Zac in the votes this year.

Walker had a day so bad he must have killed a black cat with a ladder.

Bucks? not so good.

But these guys want the ball, the criticism needs to be leveled at those guys not getting involved.

Unfortunately all prone to being butchers. Buckley has been terrible with his disposal since returning (2nd efforts vs the Saints papered over his 1st ineffective disposal). Walker needs to moved forward, or the wing but he could have a spell off his last 2 games.

So we are crap
So everybody says shut up shop and play the kids
So we did
You can't expect kids to compete yet
No win situation
What I cannot accept is out on the full from 20 m out dead in front by several players
Don't recruit players without fundamentals

Agree with Docherty but if Tuohy is 2nd in our B&F currently then that might explain why we are 17th.....

I feel part of your problem is your midfield is full of taggers, Whiley on Beams, Curnow on Zorko, Armfield on Rich. Carrazzo when he plays. That tactic is dead or dying. Your playing with 15 blokes. Crowley out has been a blessing for Freo, just have someone run with someone if they are cutting you up and not as the premeditated plan, it will make your games more watchable if your midfield is trying to score rather than just trying to stop the opposition from doing so.

Make no mistake this is an important day in terms of our rebuild and desire to get 4 picks inside the top 20 or 30.

And it is important when trying to lure young talent like Aish because you need to also finish lower then nearly every other team.

We are making sure our plan will succeed with results/efforts like this.

\We have too many players who currently are not ready, not up to AFL standard or are just about finished, need to turn them over quikly and get more young talent into the club and be better at development then we have been in the past and be ******* patient once all of this happens !!

This.
Players who aren't up for it are being found out. Trade and delist till we have a bunch who won't stop giving.
Patience is not in our DNA; it needs to be.

The scary part is our midfield setup is full-defence, and yet we're still woefully unaccountable through the middle.

Yeah, but it doesn't point to him being a spud either.

He (and Doc) are playing a role under pressure week in week out.

A close look at Docs game today saw him beaten a few time man on man as well.

Anyway, just think playing in our backline at the moment is a tough gig. No help and the coaches are torching them with the way the team is being instructed to play.

No respite, no reward for effort. It's soul destroying.

Just watched the replay as I was out all day. Truly a depressing outcome. God, this is such a bad feeling...and I see all the ex-Carlton players thriving at their new clubs....Waite kicking bags, Betts a superstar, Jeffy seems to be quite settled too. WTF is wrong with our club?
You forgot laidler doing nicely at the Swans. And what did we get back for all of these guys combined? Pick 60 something.

**** **** ****, as MEB would say.

The great thing about Mick's Collingwood side was that the lack of designated negating players forced everyone to actually take responsibility for TEAM DEFENCE. This was one of the elements I was most excited about seeing implemented at the blues.

:(

Get Sav to work with Jones... or better yet, make Sav our forwards development coach after we sack Brad Green tomorrow... just have to convince SOS to come out and be our defensive development coach for a while until we can get a better replacement for Barker!

State Coach Coaching position Carlton Coaching debut Former clubs as coach
Mick Malthouse Senior Coach 2013 Footscray (s), West Coast (s), Collingwood (s)
Robert Wiley Director of Coaching and Development 2013 Perth (s), West Coast (a), Western Australia U16s (s)
John Barker Assistant Coach (Back-line) 2011 St Kilda (a), Hawthorn (a)
Dean Laidley Assistant Coach (Midfield) 2014 Collingwood (a), North Melbourne (s), Port Adelaide (a), St Kilda (a)
Brad Green Assistant Coach (Forward-line) 2013

Michael Osborne Development Coach 2013
Luke Webster Development Coach, Northern Blues senior coach 2011

Changes have to be made. Something is amiss, these coaches are NOT developing our players to the desired AFL level. Recently, apart from Cripps, and Bell, I can't think of one young player that has really come on in his development under this current group of assistant coaches. Menzel should be sufficiently developed & established by now, and playing above average football for the club, but he is not. Maybe someone can think of others that have not developed properly under this current group of coaches? So with the knowledge of incurring the wrath of Big Footy Carlton members who disagree, this is my assessment of our current assistant coaches.....

Barker
- Too long out of the game, over 10 years. 3rd club as assistant coach. (Why is a former forward developing our backline?)
Wiley - Another too long out of the game, (turned 60 this year) - Why don't we have a younger, hands on, recently retired player familiar with latest tactics and development trends?
Laidley - Been to other clubs without success. Why is he so sought after. What are his credentials?
Capuano - Played in the 90's? Ruck coach. (Out of touch with current AFL trends and tactics)
Green - Look at our forward line setup & plan. Bomb it in high and hope Levi, Hendo or Jones marks it and they kick a goal. Just doesn't work that way. There has to be a better plan than this? There has got to be a Plan B if Plan A doesn't work.
Osborne - Don't know much about him. Finished up with hawthorn in 2013. May be OK as he is a recently retired player.

I don't know what the answer is. But this group of coaches just don't seem to be that answer, and changes need to be made IMO.

Love all the thumbs up to Bell .. and good on him. One decent player is a start .. I guess.
Oh .. hang on .. yeah Cripps

All we need now is another 21 like those 2 and we should be right .. oh .. and a half a dozen more Cripps and bells to add some depth

Ring ring .. or is that ding ding?

He is playing with a degenerative knee condition, hence why he is starting most games on a HFF this season. It is highly unlikely he will get anywhere near his 2011 AA form again. He is still a very good player though & in 2-3 years time, playing as a permanent small forward, could become a 30-40 goals a year player.

That's a miserable end to someone with Murphy's talent.

Not sure how Murphy could continue to be captain with a degenerative knee condition.

Not suggesting that, I just dont think he is a defender or has the ability to think defensively when under pressure so am advocating a change of role for him.

It was Malthouse himself who suggested he wasn't a great run & carry player to which I tend to agree with.

Totally agree that playing in our backline at present is a tough gig when you consider game style, midfields lack of pressure and so many taggers who basically allow the opposition first use of the ball.

No Jamison, No Kruezer, No Hendo, No Yarran, No Menzel.

The crux of the matter is if they all played (or at least 2/3 of them) we would have won by 3-4 goals.

Our playing list depth is paper thin right now, I fail to see how that's Mick's fault ..
You are beyond deluded. Take a deep breath and think about the team that we lost to today, and whether a 3-4 goal win would have meant anything more than a pinch of shit.

Pretty much the only positive out of the game was that that young Brisbane player was able to walk away from that horrific clash with the fence.

Being at the game I honestly thought it was all over for him; was extremely disturbing to watch and I am still shaken by it to be honest.

Bell coming into good form in recent times and Casboult kicking straight were two positives for me.

Hardly deluded, I have been harping on about the lack of depth in our list for sometime now.

For many years now, there has been no decent middle-tier talent coming through at Carlton, in the short term, we would have been more competitive keeping Robbo, Waite, McLean and Garlett, but they longer term, the same issues would have arisen, 2 years down the track, and least we're getting games into kids like Cripps, Boekhurst and Whiley.

It doesn't seem like it now, but Mick has done this club a massive favour by clearing out the stale, dead wood. Yeah the Jones recruitment was a clanger but I believe Mick's list management decisions were done with an eye to longer term success.

Our list was inevitably going to hit rock bottom, if not now, then in 18 months so time.

This is what happens when you fail to recruit and develop enough quality young players, esp 2nd/3rd round draft picks, which has been a problem at our club for well over a decade (and I don't pin the blame on Pagan or Ratten for that, the support structures and football department at our footy club since around 2001/2002 have been embarrassingly bad)
