Yep. lol is right. 6, 17, 3, 0 games. 26 games from a first rounder half back we didn't need.

Really nailed that pick ;)
For the sake of accuracy I think the only thing I agree with is your games played count which is due to injury.

1 The talk over the years has always had Chapman as a ?winger. That is a current need.
2 Many are quite rightly saying now that as soon as Chappy is fit he replaces Hughes ie we need him in the back line.

I'm concerned about his injuries but a versatile, 193cm local lad is still a good pick at 14 IMO. And we need him now.

They won't be play defensive lockdown against weagles. You play the teams on their merit and strengths. Adelaide, port Adelaide and Carlton have potent fwd line and opening up the game to them would of been a disaster. We don't have anything to fear against Weagles, except our own complacency

I hope you are right and I think you are. As you said JLo was very cautious against Carlton and Port to not turn over the ball in our back half so we chipped kicks and were very cautious. I’ve been disappointed with our forward line but if you look at some of the stats it explains it’s more game style than individuals. We are rated 3rd last for inside 50’s per game (only above WC and Norf). But we are rated 4th (behind GWS, Port and Carlton) for % of one on one contests won in our forward half. Also we are rated 5th for scoring shots per inside 50 (behind, GWS, Port, Carlton, Sydney). We just need to fasten up our ball movement out of the backline and get it inside 50 more often and give our forwards a chance to do they work. Hopefully we will see that this week

This might have been talked about before. Walker forward

I know walker is our best small defender and can give us some run and carry .
If we could replace him without affecting the back 6 to much, why not try it.
He lighting fast, has a great sidestep and seems to read the play well.
As long as it doesn't affect Rayn and Clark why not?

How far off is Sturt? Is he healthy again yet?
We need more class goal kickers so bad.

I’ve been a Sturt fan, but he needs an attitude overhaul and get some ticker before he can be considered again. Played at Peel yesterday was average

Coming back from an injury, was ok early but did not do much in the 2nd half.

Hopefully, he will build fitness and play a lot better.

He is the exact type of player, we need to bring into the 22, but I think he is close to being delisted.

A lot of overreaction in this thread. Enjoy the good football we've been playing!

Realistically, we will be keeping changes to a minimum.

Chapman to continue building AFL fitness, Freddy to be given an extra week to recover.

The right pick on talent. If injuries rob him of the long, successful career he's clearly capable of on ability, sure we'll have a bit of egg on our face, but it's a dogshit example. The only player around that pick who, as a talent, I'd probably swap for Chapman is Oliver Henry, and given he got homesick because of the long distance from Collingwood to Geelong I have my doubts we would've retained him. "We didn't need" is also a bit silly - especially once he gets a run of games the gap btwn him and Ethan Hughes will be obvious.

It's a 22 man game, and if Chapman can sort out those soft tissue issues I'd be stoked to have him as 1 of the 22. People really underestimate the importance of good ball users in defence to a good offence, which is insane considering what Collingwood have managed to do basically solely off the back of intercepting and killing teams with incisive ball use off half back.

The general argument is also flawed - we used 2 high picks on fwds/half fwd flankers: Henry and Sturt. They haven't worked out so well. Hell, as much as "Freo select another half back flanker" is memed here, half back flank isn't even the worst position to go at in terms of "we're racking up too many of them and not enough fwds" - if anything, our depth in terms of medium defenders who are good ball users is not great. We also just lost Schultz, a fwd we put years of development into. That's not to say that we couldn't have done more in fwd areas, but we certainly haven't done nothing, and pointing the finger at the Chapman selection specifically is misfiring.

We racked up too many tall defenders (evidenced by Logue and Hamling leaving and us not really missing them) and we've got way too many inside mids. Those are the selections I'd look at before thinking about Chapman, especially given the lack of fwds or quality in general around that pick.

Macrae
Holmes
Bowery

This. We played a top 4 side on their patch and really took it to them.

Yes, I actually agree with this. Picking Chapman ensured Logue left - that's pretty much the cast for 'didn't need'.

The case against is that he's talented, which I also agree. He's a first rounder for a reason. But no one can sit here and say we were short a defender. It's literally the last thing we needed.

As I've said before, the good news is that we have 4 1st rounders to fix it at the end of the year.

Think if Chapman, Darcy & Fred are in's then we should win pretty comfortably.
Richmond are pus
looking at the review of the Peel game, maybe players like Stanley should be considered, and Chapman has another week?

Rookie Ethan Stanley was the next most active with 20 touches, while Heath Chapman had the ball 16 times, helped with eight marks.

Key defender Hugh Davies took seven grabs among 15 disposals with fellow big man Ollie Murphy having 12 touches.

Didn't need Logue. Don't know what we'll end up getting for him considering we traded that pick for Port's 1st. But I'm sure it will end up being someone better than Logue. Who, btw, didn't even play close to a full season until year 5. Chapman is a much more dynamic player if he can get his body right.
