Autopsy Rd 7 Blues lose after the siren in a thriller

In hindsight Cunners should taken his time and hit up Eddie at the end but I think our boys taking things on themselves and backing themselves in tough situations will get us more positive results than negative so I won't hold it against him.

Gibbons did the right thing with the long kick. We should've killed that contest.

Port had a few chances to put us away and were on top of us for the last 5 or so mins, deserved the win.

I would much rather be talking about how we escaped with the 4 points but I was very happy with so many things in that game, I'm going to chose to focus on that.

We need to put north away like we did the Dogs.

We are great to watch and have taken so many strides this year.

While we lost this one I'm a very happ supporter.

Every week I read on here that "enter name here" should have taken the game on, should have done this or that, so Cuningham takes on the game and misses by a metre and then all I read is he should have passed it off. The players do what they feel is best in the situation so they do it, you can't take away their instinct.
Agree. It was a left foot shot but good on him for going for it. The difference great players nail them when it counts. Robbie Grey did. Cunnas didn't. Carlton have either faded in the close ones or been pipped at the post. There has not been an instance yet where a young Carlton player has "owned the game" in the last qtr of a close contest this season. It is the mental part of the game that I bang on about. Need to be harder

We do give away the most stupidest free kicks every week, some actions are so bad it leaves me just shaking my head...
This seems to have crept into Crippas game in the last 12-14 games going back to last year. Feels like since he started getting the hard tag in the back half of last year now and then he takes his frustration out on someone giving away a dumb free kick.

110% agree, whilst we are all emotional and feeling robbed, it is only one game, we are showing signs of improvement, fast attacking footy, opposition supporters even praising our team, saying we are fun to watch, things are looking up. Lets hope we can continue this form.

Yeah 110% agree, it seems to be mainly the young/less experienced players who are the main culprits, so hopefully with more experience, they should improve i hope.

Anyone know why harry gave away a free at the end, right as the ball was near our goals? Thought that was a bit of a crappy call, but admittedly i didn't see exactly what he did wrong.
It’s across the board Gw2 the kids I’m not fussed about too much, it’s the more senior players actions that are frustrating...

Good signs, competitive outing, quality opposition, etc etc etc.

So what is it with our "everyone up" marking screw-ups? Forward and back, I reckon we're the best self-spoilers in the league, and seem to end up with everyone flying, nobody down. Is it a few regular offenders (I'm thinking Jones and McGovern, chiefly)? Is it "team cohesion"? Is it panic and desperation?

Likewise our generally poor "composure" in key moments. When it's time to do the simple things safely and well, we're not the guys. Why is that? We aren't a young team any more, so that doesn't cut it. I swear we have more outright clangers or brain-fades than the next team. Are we a dumb team? Are we a team with a few dumb, panicky players? Can you coach this out or is it permanently in the DNA? Edit - further thought - it is the cumulative emotional damage that's been done to senior guys like Simmo, Plow, Jones, Murphy having lots so many damn games?

Both these things are hard to put a finger on for me. We would win a lot more games of footy if we could improve - but how do we actually do that?

Why did Gray have the final shot at goal to win the game ??

Also how was Gibbons put in the position he was late in the game ??

These were the result of 2 team mates not panicking under pressure and hitting targets in heavy traffic during an intense final few minutes.

Cunningham had the chance to lower his eyes and hit an easy target to relieve the pressure and give everyone the chance to breath and gather their thoughts whilst killing off 30-40 secs.

Definitely has, frustration is getting the better of him I’ve noticed that as well...

I'd give Cripps the specific instruction/license to take himself to Full Forward whenever he's getting the sh1ts with the midfield tag. Yes, we want him to work through it, and yes, it's sometimes OK to give away a free kick to send a message....but when getting bogged down Crippa should play his trump card. He's a menace up forward. It's good enough for Danger, Dusty and Fyfe. 5-10 minute freshen up, then back to the coal face. Would help if he was fit, too - clearly frustrated his body isn't right.

thanks Pear1870 they are fine we all had a bit of a laugh and walked our separate ways. It's unfortunate, some people just don't get it, I don't see the need to call out to 2 kids and raz them up after a loss...... The boys are good. I just spoke to them on the train on the way home about respecting teams and opposition supporters. Have some banter during the games but in the end. It's football. Just enjoy the games and the spoils as they come. There's no need to pass on negativity or frustrations onto people who are either celebrating or commiserating.
They already asked this morning if we got tickets for this week.
Happy Days.

I'm still emotionally scarred and full of hatred for WCEs after growing up a Carlton supporter in WA. I have a vivid memory of being a young kid at Subi oval with a Carlton jumper on and having a grown man leap in front of me and shout "WE BEAT YOU PUSSIES" right into my face after a game. I was about ten and it scared the shizen out of me :joycat:

I’d like to see him roll forward a bit more as well if we’re going well he could cause some headaches, for me it’s just the competitive beast in him that has him wanting to keep doing what he’s done up until now by mainly carrying us on his back...

..an

'....and now Gibbons has the ball deep on the half back flank, he plays on, goes for the short pass to *****, . Interception by Port!!! Port surge the ball forward, and Robbie Grey marks in the goal square! Game over....'

Some people on here would have the tar and pitchforks out if that scenario played out. He had no other option and made the EXACTLY correct play. Not his fault the giraffes were not able to get a mitt on the pill

Agree to disagree.

Forwards should’ve done better yes.

Urgh my local barista and I discovered that we share a love of Carlton and she just wanted a full chinwag about the game this morning. No thank you, let me wallow in peace thank you ploise.
You will talk to her and enjoy it and get better coffees forever!👍

The above is true but i dont mind a young bloke backing himself and taking the shot to win the game - was a beautiful kick on the opposite, just 5 metres short.

I don't think he wants to go forward, personally. I think he backs himself in in every contest on ball. I doubt he'd go forward unless explicitly told to, and even then he probably wouldn't like it.

Coach has to call the shots, though. Best thing for Cripps and the team might well be for him to go forward more.

He also had the chance of sealing the game by kicking the goal. There is no guarantee he would have hit Casboult (tough to hit the 15m kick under pressure running flat out) there is no guarantee Casboult kicks the goal and if he missed Port could have gone coast to coast and still won. Cuningham backed himself (like Martin did in the first quarter when he ignored free players closer to goal), it didn't come off but I want him to back himself next time.

It really frustrates me that controversial call like that are made and we never see a replay. Early in the last Dixon took a mark and the commentators said how they would love to know how Jones ended up on the ground behind him, and I thought so would I but I don't have the ability to request the footage!!!

About to start. Stay on Remy. Read it

Yeah he did alright Remy considering he hasn’t had a great weekend, to still finish 7th was a good result, made some good ground late last year and I expect him to be right up there this year.

Jack starting to mature nicely, still used up his tyres but hung in there for 4th where as early last year he would have been spat out the back when his tyres went and finish 7-8. Hope the Ducati can get some more corned speed for next yeAr.

Yeah I agree Macca, he so nearly made it too another metre of carry and we are calling him the match winner, and your right Martin took the shot and he had McGovern in acres of space where as CAS still might of been spoiled if the kick wasn’t perfect.
