Thoughts on Curnow's game?

I know he's a popular scapegoat on here... He had an astonishing 27 uncontested possessions but most of his 5 rebound 50s involved slamming it on the boot to no one in particular.

Yes no one was leading or running past for a handball receive but it just shows our level of confidence and beseigement that we're not finding a teammate.

He accumulates but for a guy tagging, how is it he gets so many uncontested possessions. He's not there to provide run and delivery. For such an uncontested game, his disposal efficiency was not great at all.

It all looks good on the stats sheet, but it is another case of a square peg in round hole structure wise.

Well, he's one who keeps on trying but has no support.

We know Ed's flaws, but he does a lot right for his role.

I feel he'd be very useful in a good team, but in our, um, team he stands out because he keeps going all day and can find the pill, but you don't really want him being your primary disposer.

It would be so easy for Buckley to just play selfishly and focus on his own man and retain his spot like the rest of our team do.
Instead Buckley tries to run and create, tries to break the lines and because of that he runs himself into trouble which makes him look like he is out of form.

It would be so easy for him to take the easy route that the rest of the players do and just kick it backwards and sideways to get a clean possession, yet he tries his hardest to actually create something so those further up the ground can benefit from it.

With a team that has no idea of how to move the ball forward, with a team that won't break out of a jog either offensively or defensively, Buckley is desperately needed to break the lines even if he runs into trouble in the time being.
Watched the Brisbane game a couple of days ago and thought Buckey was ok and did some good things. Should definitely be in the side permanently.

It definitely is baffling that if a player shows some flair and creativeness and tries to break the lines and turns the ball over then he is punished by being sent back into the magoos, but if a player kicks backwards and sideways until he turns the ball over then he is rewarded by keeping his post in the team.

I used to look forward to seeing Yarran run and take the opposition on, now days I never see it.

The above examples IMO are more than just coincidences, this smacks of a deliberate ploy by MM to stop the attacking run of our team and make them purely a defensive unit.

One of the few that puts in 4 quarters of effort.

Certainly one of the few gut running and spreading hard.

Lacks polish but he's our best tagger and ready replacement for Carrots.

And that's our problem with MM in a nutshell.

Curnow is a ready replacement for Carrots, so what the hell are they doing playing at the same time?

shame how a politically correct world has changed what we can say about the club and players.

Houston, we have a problem?

All night I have been thinking about it and it finally dawned what a god damn basket case we are.

Can people realise how many teams have leaped frogged us? Err all of them!

I remember a time Fremantle, Port, Adelaide, West Coast, WB .... Bloody everyone was behind us.

We need to virtually burn the place down and start from ground zero.

We are rotten to the core and it is simply not working. More of the same will result in more of the same ... We are less than mediocre at the moment and have been worse than that for a long long time.

I can at least remember what it was like to be feared and respected but those days are so long gone that we are now so un appealing to the new generation that we will slowly die like Melbourne.

It is just so sad that those in charge of the club have screwed its legacy over so badly.

Time for wholesale change.

Enough is enough before it is too late if it already isn't.

First and foremeost, Buckly should always stay in the team, I don't care how many times he turns the ball over or he runs himself into trouble, the fact that he attempts to create run is the most important thing in a team that doesn't know how to move the ball forward.

Secondly, Carrazo and Ellard should never play another game again.

Thirdly, our young players need to be played game after game, I don't acre if we lose by 150 points, because eventually these young players of our future will learn to play to each others strengths, and that is what will ultimately pull us out of this ditch we are in.

MM has to go, and a coach that can implement an attacking gameplan needs to be brought in. We needed to get better at the inside game when MM came in, but he has gone way too far and now the only thing we are good at is the inside game.
Now things are worse because even though we get our hands on the ball first, we lose it straight away and then are unable to have the leg speed to stop the opposition from running the ball down the other end and catching our defence out.

We need to give the players free reign to be as attacking as they like, if they get caught out of position or they can't be bothered running back then so what, because right now they are not attacking as well as not running back. Can't hurt us to let the players run forward as much as they like especially since we are not even defending right now with an ultra defensive game plan.

First and foremost I would say guys like Dylan Buckley and their lack of development/Improvement are part of the problem. 4th year on the list- never saw him as an underager but 4 years in and cant kick to advantage or hit a target from 20meters. Im sure Dylan is a great young guy and tries really hard and might be slightly faster than the average player (not that quick) but at the end of the day, after 4 years on the list he is a shocking decision maker and probably a worse kick. You probably do have to play him for the rest of the year to see if this stuff can be fixed. People on here like to bag out guys like ellard- imo Besides being younger and slightly quicker buckley is a worse player than ellard.

i was at the game yesterday and had a few brilliant ideas that we should do the following changes to keep the Carlton supporters interested in the rest of the season.
- change the theme song each week, stating with the theme from the three stooges, followed by the laurel and hardy theme and then something by the easybeats
- play comedic sound effects over the sound system for each clanger..like they do on the funniest video shows
- have a raffle to raise funds. the prize....be thecoach on the day, couldn't do any worse than we have today
- introduce a refund policy if wee loose by more than 10 goals

There are some questions that need to be raised about him i agree. Im a fan of the kid, one of the few extroverts we have, has some great pace. But the games against Brisbane and C'Wood showed me his skills and disposals are well below where they need to be.

Played some great games last season, possibly just a form slump, a contagious one.

As you point out, Buckley has been in the system for 4 years, so please tell me how many games he has played in the firsts?

And don't tell me he hasn't played that many because he needed to develop and prove he was up to it. The same reason Buckley hasn't played enough games in the firsts, is the same reason that Graham hasn't played enough games in the firsts.

The senior players get a game week in and week out, no matter how badly they perform. Our team isn't picked on form, ability and potential, no its picked on seniority.
Which is the reason we dropped all the young players this week and brought in the senior players thinking that they could suddenly do what they have been unable to do for years now, that is actually retain possession of the ball with proper disposal.

You mean even in Greece they won't accept you insulting the old, the disabled, immigrants, women, different cultures, sexualities and religions? How do you ever speak?

Might explain why no one bid on him in father/son period and we got him for stuff all....

Quite like the idea of a BOING noise over the PA when we fall over.

You do realise that if a player is trying to take the game on and break the lines, then he will at times run himself into trouble or get himself in situations where he is under pressure which will in turn affect his disposal, dont you.

Would you rather Buckley follow the rest of the team and kick backwards and sideways so that his efficiency rate looks better?

Mind you, the other players in the team can't even make the right decisions when they have plenty of time after running backwards and away from the opposition, so how on earth you can expect Dylan to make the right choices when he is running towards the opposition in an effort to actually move the ball forward, is beyond me.

You do remember the object of the game, don't you, to actually move the ball forward and kick goals rather than just run back all day to stop the other team from scoring.

All those years I thought I was watching Australia's Funniest Home Videos!!!!!!!!

I stayed till the end of the game to beat the traffic.
That's classic!
The best laugh I've had in here. Yes, our club has come full circle.. The GWS's of this world are now us (the old 'us' that is) and we are now them. But it's worse than that; they atleast had hope. Us..?
