If Pies bring back Cox, I would look to add McKay to the emergencies and be a late in for Taz. Give him a bit of a rest because there isn’t a huge matchup for him this week

To those wanting McKay, who does he play on? The Pies are small except Cox. Just can't see the reasoning.
I think you answered your own question.

Don't understand the calls to drop Morgan, especially for Murphy.
Has to do with composure I guess, re His kick deep inside fifty instead of backing himself in. 18 disposals at 94 is excellent.

It was his first senior game. I think its an understandable mistake given the circumstances. He wasn't the only one to shank opportunities, Browny and Maj both did late in the game. Honestly if you drop a first gamer only because of that last kick he might never get the confidence back to play well.

I like Murphy as a player, he has a lot to offer, really took advantage of his chances and has played well but he was wrecked in that Essendon game, had about 5 possessions and 1 kick. Then he played in the vfl underwater game last week. (And looked all class as well.) I reckon he probably needs a little bit more recovery time. Morgan deserves to keep his spot on his performance, and if Murphy is up to a game then he would be great to have in there with Morgan. Both young backmen who offer different qualities we need.

Agreed 100%. Murphy needs a pre-season and Morgan needs to stay in for the rest of the year to see what he has and give him the confidence of backing him in.

What classifies as a pressure act?
CD explains pressure factor here: http://championdata.fansunite.com.au/2015/08/21/16625/pressure-factor

There are basically 3 kinds: corralling, closing and physical. They have to affect the decision making of the ball carrier. CD assigns different pressure points to the different kinds of acts. Sadly, this article is from the perspective of how they assess disposal under pressure, not the actual acts. So missed and ineffective tackles count (but an ineffective tackle can still be ok since it might force an effective handball rather than an effective kick). Don't know if 2nd man in on a tackle counts; pretty sure smothers do. Hrovat's breakdown of pressure acts isn't available in the stats and I can't find overall pressure points recorded in any of the usual publicly available places. Cue the "well he must have had all the bad kind" comments.

Edit: 4 kinds. corralling, chasing, closing, and physical.

Attempted tackles, smothers, bumps on the ball carrier afaik. Not sure if corralling ball carrier is counted.

All useless unless they cause a turnover, stoppage etc imo
They all reduce disposal efficiency. That's why they record them.

I know, right? The guy averaging 11 disposals a game with a high of 14 (albeit at 81%) vs the guy who got 18 at 91% on debut.

Murph's a nice kick tho. I like him and think we've done well to snag him as a rookie but he's not an automatic better option than Morgs. We crucified Bread who was an even better kick and got it 18 times a game.

Dead exhausted in the last minutes of his debut when two leadership group blokes chose not to hold it up beforehand. heck. I'd bag Ziebell's and Higgins' composure before his on that one.

If Murphy is to come in it should be for wright - especially this week with the pies fleet footed forwards

My only change would be Jacobs (if he’s available) in for Clarke. I’d like to see LMAC spend all his time in the guts and being told to “go for his life”. When he’s tired, he goes to the bench. I don’t believe he’s of any value in defence right now and wasteful in attack. However, after watching the replay, he does some great work in the engine room. Hrovat had a much better game at the weekend. The replay, also, bears that out. The number one focus should be to cut down on our turnovers. If we manage a 20% reduction in that area, we’ll win. If any of our big men are injured, McKay should definitely come in.

Oh, and WW in if Turner isn’t right to go.

In reality, it was just bad luck. You couldn’t really fault any of them. Nine times out of ten, the ball would have gone out of play after Alex’s kick. Sydney ‘s ball usage from there was excellent. Hrovat did a great job corralling one of them but they still persevered.

So according to Robbo the swans were undermanned. Gee did they notice that 8 of our best we’re missing . The media continues to shit me to tears .

.... And, given, we have no depth, it means we should be worse affected...

The only benefit to 10 missed tackles in a row(physical) where oppo players still get the handball away is it gives time to get numbers back.

Imo, posters are using pressure acts as a way to excuse poor small forward play within our team. Our 2 main smalls have kicked 8 goals between them!

Its moot at the moment with our injuries anyway.

I would love to see our Gordon get a game, I know hes a rookie and needs plenty of work.....but that x factor in the forward line .....drool.

However what about this, bring the large hadron collider in and push Jy up forward.

Get them in: Big man Mason Cox was sorely missed against West Coast and would be a welcome inclusion for the big clash with North Melbourne. Last round's emergencies Sam Murray, Adam Oxley and Callum Brown remain in contention, as does second-year tall Sam McLarty.

Under the pump: Forward Ben Crocker gained a late reprieve when Cox withdrew, but will again come under pressure after another quiet outing.

Medical room: Cox appears likely to overcome a tight hamstring, while Brayden Sier (corked thigh), Tom Langdon (knee) and Darcy Moore (finger) are also expected to be available.

Verdict: If fit, Cox would vastly improve the Pies' forward structure and provide ruckman Brodie Grundy with the odd break. - Ben Collins

Get them in:Ben McKay and Nick Larkey seem to be jostling for one spot, albeit at opposite ends of the ground, depending on how the Roos use Majak Daw. McKay impressed with his marking again in the VFL, while Larkey was a match-day emergency. Will Walker is getting closer to making his AFL debut and Braydon Preuss' form surge continued at the weekend.

Under the pump: The heat is on Ryan Clarke and Nathan Hrovat, although defensive forward Kayne Turner's concussion might be a factor in Hrovat's selection fate.

Medical room: Emerging defender Sam Durdin's (broken right tibia) season is over, while stopper Ben Jacobs and defensive forward Turner (both concussion) are in doubt for this weekend. Jacobs suffered a setback after playing a fortnight ago, then being a late withdrawal for the third time in a month against Sydney.

Verdict: Jacobs will play if he's cleared and McKay's time might have arrived down back, too. Clarke and one of Hrovat or Turner will probably make way. Don't rule out Walker playing, either. – Marc McGowan

I wasn't meaning to single you out, I just find it predictable that Maj has a good game because of someone else and he lacks game smarts, maybe it is all just clicking?
i suspect mag is now a better forward as he has more than 0 clue how a defender plays.
if that makes any sense....
teaching him defence has helped when playing on defenders.

COLLINGWOOD big man Mason Cox will look to further prove his fitness during the club's main training session on Thursday as he pushes to recover from hamstring tightness in time for Saturday's clash against North Melbourne at the MCG.

Cox joined a group of players who primarily have played in the VFL in recent weeks on the Olympic Park Oval track on Tuesday for a light one-hour session in windy conditions.

The tall forward, who was a late withdrawal from Sunday's game against West Coast after experiencing neural soreness in his hamstring, started the session with a series of end-to-end run throughs.

Cox then changed into footy boots and joined his teammates in a kicking drill, where he moved without too much bother.

However, there was no match practice or contact-based training and Thursday is set to be telling in determining his availability for the game with the Roos.

Jamie Elliott, Jarryd Blair, Alex Fasolo and Tyson Goldsack were among the other players out on the track on Tuesday afternoon.

Meanwhile, wingman Tom Phillips walked laps as the majority of the senior-listed players who played against West Coast trained indoors.

Elliott (hamstring), Blair (hamstring) and Fasolo (ankle) all took part in a VFL intraclub hit-out at training last Thursday with the Magpies' VFL team having a bye.

The trio will seek to return via the VFL in the coming weeks and be part of Collingwood's squad heading into September.

Goldsack was moving extremely well and even joined in some full contact training as he bids to return later this season from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in the pre-season.
