Be careful what you wish for.

The “Welcome to Country” has gone from a mark of respect. To a now demand and an obligation for respect. Aunty Joy is showing her true nature and that of the movement. With some of her antics of late.

Gill the Dill and the hierarchy copped a serve. And, I heard she sent Obama an invoice when they bypassed her during his last visit.

So in fact, respect does have a monetary value……

Inches and miles people……

Gee how dare an Aboriginal woman speak out and have an opinion. Back in your place Aunty

There are over 200 different cultures existing and flourishing in Australia. All contributing to the wonderful tapestry that is this great nation.

Why do I need to have a greater understanding of one over another.

But maybe that is the problem. Needing to be seen as special. When we should all be seen as one. And not to be seen in any specific light ahead of another.

After all, don’t we all want to be Australians?

And that is what you don’t get about Aboriginal people. They don’t want to be ‘special’. They just want to be equal.

Please enlighten, what is it that they don’t feel equal in?

Considering we all fall under the same laws. Are there special clauses that I’m not aware of…..

This is the sort of drivel served up by Rita Panahi and Andrew Bolt, almost word for word.

Surely we're better than the Herald Sun, Ron. Surely there are better people to parrot.

I don’t read the Herald Comic.

Why don’t you offer a rebuttal instead of a derogatory comment as usual. FFS you’re a university lecturer. Surely, you are made of more than piss and vinegar.

Sharp words, Ron.

The post I replied to was utterly devoid of substance. It was little better than a TV commercial.

You are. I am. We are...Australian.

I'd have a better time disputing the existence of Santa.

You haven’t heard of Health, education, housing, job opportunity, rates of preventable disease, life expectancy, infant mortality rates, health access, premature birth rates etc etc etc

Sometimes I like to sit back and remember all the blood, sweat and tears that our multicultural people poured out in order to come to Australia and make a better life for their families. They are all a huge part of what makes this country great today. The best part is that they do it with humility and not ask for anything in return.

Yet another straw man full of piss and vinegar.

There is a string of truthful comments there waiting for a rebuttal.

It’s always the truth that seems to sting the hardest.

You should stick to the Footy posts. At least those, at best, are like a 7/11 ready made sandwich.

It is a magnificent part of Australia. We've all benefited from it.

The notion that they didn't ask for anything in return is wayward. They came to Australia and asked for an opportunity and a fair go in achieving their dreams, and they rightly complained when they didn't get it.

They weren't just given their opportunities; they fought for them.

You are little arent you

I love exposing the hypocrisy.

I do see thought neither yourself, nor BJ will attempt a rebuttal. It’s a little difficult argument against the truth.

I’m sure though, if you remain offended long enough. You too can get a bronze statue made…..

Are you referring to remote communities because all those things are available to everyone in Australia who lives in the cities.

You are so ridiculously ignorant of Indigenous culture and affairs it's absurd. You speak about things that you clearly are wilfully ignorant about. You constantly speak about indigenous affairs as if modern Australia is offering them a favour or a charity in making efforts towards reconciliation.

You have no idea about the matters you speak on. They are not wilfully 'offended' or any other absolute bobbins.

Seriously, in 2023 you’re telling me that after over $30Bil is spent on Indigenous Affairs for a total population of approx 800K Indigenous Australians. Of which there may be less than 150K in remote communities.

There must be some serious mismanagement of funds going on. Or there are some real fat cats with their noses in the trough.

The way I see it. It is not a lack of resources that is the problem. Sometimes the indigenous community need to take responsibility for themselves. I’m certain there are doctors, lawyers, teachers, builders, engineers and etc……Within the Indigenous community that should be helping their own cause. How is it that they can’t even solve any of this.

The Australian government is providing the financial means. It’s been shown in the past, that any White Australian involvement isn’t wanted. I’m astounded that in this day and age. And having all these available resources to put to these issues. We as a nation can’t fix this problem.

Sometimes the cynic in me thinks that these problems may not want to be fixed. Because if they were and everyone was prospering. What would those in the Indigenous community have to be angry about. Except for the bleeding obvious that occurred in 1788.

Are there not enough educated Indigenous Australians that could help their own communities.

As much as you like to claim there culture is special. It’s not that different to many other cultures and the way in which they interact with each other.

No they came to Australia with a hope of an opportunity to work hard and provide a better life for their families. And extended families. No different than was offered to anyone in Australia.

Sorry Ron, are you being contrarian for the sake of it? What part of my post are you disagreeing with matey?

There are plenty of Indigenous elders who put hard work into engaging with their local communities.

Unfortunately a lot of their hard work is set back by the pure lack of discernible intelligence of some like you.

That remains entertaining.

His Churchill act ('only I know the truth') with a combination of persecution complex ('oh look at them all attack the truthteller') still keeps me mildly amused.
I also like his declaring of battles over, won in his favour, when they are long lost as he is laid to siege. It's like a reverse of Michael Scott prematurely declaring bankruptcy.

“After all, don’t we all want to be Australians?” Maybe, maybe not. I think we are trying to figure out what it means to be Australian. It’s meant different things over time and it continues to evolve and will continue to do so. At the moment for many that means trying to embrace indigenous culture within the concept of being “Australian”. For a country that had Terra Nullius as a founding concept this has been difficult. For a country that used to believe that being Australian only applied to “white” people this has been difficult. Unfortunately “we should all be seen as one” often manifests as we should all be seen one way. I don’t think we’ll ever have a definition that satisfies everyone and I don’t think that really matters. Life never fits into our nice definitions. Adopting an indigenous name for a couple of rounds of footy just feels like a nice gesture, after all we’ve asked (to put it politely) the same indigenous people to adopt the name Australian for how many years.
