10 flags in 50 years.

We're pretty happy with that one.

Liked having the greatest winning margin in a GF till bloody Port...

Considering the way we entered the Competition.

For those who don't know, our 30 second Hawks history...

In 1925 North, Dogs and Port Melbourne were going to enter the VFL.

Port was blocked from entering and Hawthorn (ordinary VFA side) entered.

No draft picks or any other sort of help given out. Club was on a hiding to nothing. Took 20 years before we beat Collingwood in a game! Sat in the bottom 3 for years.

Then it all turns around in the late 50s - Thanks Kanga Kennedy.

1925-1950 Hawthorn was far worse than the Bears, far worse than Fitzroy of 1980s/90s, far worse than Richmond 1983-present, far worse than Swans of early 90s.

Yet the worst team in the first half of the century turned into the best team of the second half of the century. Not bad hey?

Why was Port Melbourne blocked if they were a better VFA side than Hawthorn?

What are the records that your club and supporters love boasting about.

Bad reputation for player and crowd behaviour.
Really quite amazing that the Hawks ever succeeded, Kanga is a true legend for what he did to that club.

Lol true.

Look at the Saints though, we've had a similar run with lows, yet no where near as many highs. How did the club not go the same way as University? We were argubly on par with them in the early 1900's. Hopefully the 1990's onwards will be seen as the Saints version of the Hawks 1961+.

Even if we achieved half of that...fk wouldn't mind 5 flags in the next 50 years haha. :thumbsu:

We had 2 players named Cox in 2001 and there were a few jokes going around then.
Best cox jokes always came when Chick was in the team. (for Dean Cox, Simon Cox and Adrian Cox).
What about Collingwood having Goldsack, Dick and Cox.

Reminds me of what someone said at the football last week. Something along the line of "You may have Dick, but we've got Stiffy!" :D

Great, now I don't have to bother to finish reading The Hard Way which is sitting on my shelf :p

13 consecutive finals appearances must surely rank with the best acheivements in the AFL. Just goes to show how great the hawks side was in the 80s to early 90s. Other records were proud of would be:

-Tucky's games record
-The Chief's 1254 goals 3rd best all time
-Winning the most flags in the last 50 yrs.
-Having imo the greatest player to play the game in our side lethal leigh matthews

Collingwood holds all the best ones but one, obviously the most important one.

4 Flags
Undefeated season
First AFL Flag
Most supporters
Biggest crowds

But yeah, unfortunately, we need to win 3 more flags to get the other one. Which I doubt I'll live to see.
