Link to the proposed Referendum, from the Referendum Working Group:
(Edited 6 April 2023)

These are the words that will be put to the Australian people in the upcoming referendum as agreed by the Referendum Working Group (made up of representatives of First Nations communities from around Australia):

"A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?"

As well as that, it will be put to Australians that the constitution be amended to include a new chapter titled "Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples".

The details would be:

The Prime Minister has committed to the government introducing legislation with this wording to parliament on 30 March 2023 and to establishing a joint parliamentary committee to consider it and receive submissions on the wording, providing ALL members of Parliament with the opportunity to consider and debate the full details of the proposal.

Parliament will then vote on the wording in June in the lead up to a National Referendum.

The ANU has issued a paper responding to common public concerns expressed in relation to the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice here:

Summary details of the key points from this paper may be found in Chief post here:
The Uluru Statement from the Heart:
Not specifically No. In any case it does not form part of the Referendum proposal.

Seeing as things have gotten a bit toxic in here, let's try to return things to a more civil tone.

The following will result in warnings to begin with, and if said behaviour continues will be escalated:
  • referring to another poster as racist without direct provocation.
  • dismissing or deriding another poster's lived experience.
  • personal attacks or one line posts designed solely to insult or deride.

You might notice that the final rule is from the board rules. Thought we should probably remember that this is against the rules in case it's been forgotten.

Let's play nicely from here, people.

Most are also just flat out phoneys too.

I’ve put him on ignore- what’s to be gained from interacting with someone like that?
Nothing whatever that would improve your life one iota.

A slide of about 25% over the last year for support for a voice in parliament.

Dunno if you can blame all that on "misinformation" and sky news etc.

Especially given those bemoaning Sky News never watch it and wouldn't know what was being said on that channel.
I dare say that most with a casual interest in politics and certainly the millions who don't give a toss either way about politics would know Sky Channel existed on their TV.
No .... can lay the blame for the No vote succeeding fair and square at the feet of our bumbling and ineffective PM, who was too busy rubbing shoulders with celebrities and preaching to the converted.
You don't have to win people over at a Midnight Oli concert.

Well spoken ... and 100% truth.
Had some nuffie Yes campaigner abuse me for not wanting to take a how to vote card from her.
I simply said ... it's simple matey, I can vote yes or no, I don't need you to tell me.
But the arrogance and rudeness.
I have accepted the vote and long moved on.
No one side had a mortgage on winning the vote, but the entitlement on show is cringeworthy.
Can't believe it! Same thing happened with a NO campaigner to my friend didn't want to take his pamphlet, especially since he shoved it in his face.

Aren't these isolated incidents fun to share?

Aggro at polling places must be a Vicco thing. Everyone was very nice and pleasant in WA. Victoria could learn a thing or two about decorum.
Didn't see any issues in SA either, but I'm not disputing the possibility something could have gone down in the AM before I arrived to vote.

You read something on Facebook, posted it here which has been outed as incorrect, and now can't accept it
Frankly not the first 'no' voter to do that. They've just gone the extra step to have the stupid thing they based their vote on from Facebook be debunked because they stepped outside their echo chamber / safe space.

Wazza brought in as the Today commentator. w***er.

"People I talk to are sick of reading about the bad things that happen in indigenous communities."

Says it all about his warped priorities.

Channel 9 journo comes in and promotes another video.

What a laugh.

Finish off with Dutton repeating lies.

Nobody from government or the yes campaign. No activists.

It's a total joke.

Short walk forward imho.

Shouldn't be too surprising as pollsters across the board were pretty consistent (and accurate) on the likely Referendum result:

YES count is currently 39.3% with under 10% of votes left to count.

Last poll predictions:

-Newspoll 39%

- Focal Data 39%

- Redbridge 38%

- Freshwater 40%

- YouGov 40%

Not surprised. My point was that the media bias average corresponds to both the polls, and the referendum result.

But certain people keep telling us that the media has no relevance.

Yeah they'll be picking over the bones of this referendum for years. Demographics etc etc. Can make 1000 convenient assumptions if you grab a microscope...which they surely will in the media and Canberra.

Its not often you can target a bloke and actually get him for an ok price. I think Syd and Dees did it well. Its a relief to not fret about maybe seeing Ladhams at #1 ruck. Grundy fills a massive list hole thats for sure. At the price, he's already looking like he could be #1 owned non-draft pick in SC next year. Adams i'm not so sure about but when a seasoned player puts their hand up you should always do the right thing. He's got plenty left in him. Good pick up. Congrats on the flag u bastard !!!! Thats the best i can manage :p

Stephens is a really weird one to me. He's got it all...he just never got going. Change of club at this point is a good plan for him. He's now had his apprenticeship, and a good age and low risk for North to see what they can do.
100%. Hickey was actually bloody manful, gave you great service tbf, the Peanut has a crack but is a pinch hitter at best.
Taytay will fade out on the backend and he's a soft tissue risk, but he's good at the price and he'll give you no dramas culturally.
Stephens seems a bit flaky Sleevo style, reckon what you got back is ok under the circumstances 👍

Holy hell, talk about throwing the toys out of the cot.
The best post in this whole thread! I'm sure the inner city lefties on big footy will tell you exactly why your community needed it though!
😆

we actually have a decent aboriginal community here in town, and even more so in our 52,000 km2 shire council area. Different groups based on the towns you go to in the shire. And being the gate way to the Cape, you experience those that come down from the Cape to the 'big smoke'. Just like any group, you have the good and the bad. Most that come down here end up going back up to work for councils, QR or the mines etc.

Most of the better off ones ignore most of the Aboriginal led organisations up there and come down here for better opportunities (mostly school and sport). So make what you will of that. That's why the sentiment toward this clown show, in town here, was pretty much mutual from both indigenous and non-indigenous.

Just give us a fair go and stop getting fat off of the money that's meant to go into developing the communities up here.

Correct weight Flemington. Everything else is denial.

A case of Australian authors commenting on articles written by Australian authors.

The rest of the world barely cares.
Can only comment on Swiss / German / Spanish news.
Rated a mention in the weekend current affairs shows, but wasn't top billing and with Israel / Palestine, Poland elections etc. it wasn't and won't be front and centre any time soon tbh.
Will influence perceptions at some level.
Am in the Yes camp fwiw.

I refuse to believe your assessment.

I mean this is Mundine on National Indigenous TV on Saturday night. He seems to me to be an open minded, respectful and balanced individual who is just the sort of person who Indigenous Australians will rally behind after the NO Referendum result:
