Link to the proposed Referendum, from the Referendum Working Group:
(Edited 6 April 2023)

These are the words that will be put to the Australian people in the upcoming referendum as agreed by the Referendum Working Group (made up of representatives of First Nations communities from around Australia):

"A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?"

As well as that, it will be put to Australians that the constitution be amended to include a new chapter titled "Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples".

The details would be:

The Prime Minister has committed to the government introducing legislation with this wording to parliament on 30 March 2023 and to establishing a joint parliamentary committee to consider it and receive submissions on the wording, providing ALL members of Parliament with the opportunity to consider and debate the full details of the proposal.

Parliament will then vote on the wording in June in the lead up to a National Referendum.

The ANU has issued a paper responding to common public concerns expressed in relation to the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice here:

Summary details of the key points from this paper may be found in Chief post here:
The Uluru Statement from the Heart:
Not specifically No. In any case it does not form part of the Referendum proposal.

Seeing as things have gotten a bit toxic in here, let's try to return things to a more civil tone.

The following will result in warnings to begin with, and if said behaviour continues will be escalated:
  • referring to another poster as racist without direct provocation.
  • dismissing or deriding another poster's lived experience.
  • personal attacks or one line posts designed solely to insult or deride.

You might notice that the final rule is from the board rules. Thought we should probably remember that this is against the rules in case it's been forgotten.

Let's play nicely from here, people.

So why don't Australian greeks or Aussie poms or Aussie Vietnamese or Aussie Malaysians or any other Aussie race group get given the same ability as Indigenous do in the voice to parliament proposal?

That is because it is a special right being solely given to Indigenous over others.

Do you think the AFL Indigenous Round gives indigenous players a special right?

Yes they did otherwise no indigenous individual would have voted no

It's the typical trash they come up with. Abuse anyone at all who disagrees with their position and make them look like they are bad people when they are not.
well you see some actually are. Every self respecting real racist voted no along with all you caring, concerned, empathatic no voters. Its just so difficult for us to tell the difference!! I guess when you lie down with swine ...........

I refuse to believe your assessment.

I mean this is Mundine on National Indigenous TV on Saturday night. He seems to me to be an open minded, respectful and balanced individual who is just the sort of person who Indigenous Australians will rally behind after the NO Referendum result:

What an A-Hole!

Interesting about him receiving government tenders. That must be how he has accrued a wealth of over $5million.
Just another grifter.

100%. Hickey was actually bloody manful, gave you great service tbf, the Peanut has a crack but is a pinch hitter at best.
Taytay will fade out on the backend and he's a soft tissue risk, but he's good at the price and he'll give you no dramas culturally.
Stephens seems a bit flaky Sleevo style, reckon what you got back is ok under the circumstances 👍
All working out well. You guys got Shultz. Been less screwing around this trade period. If you just stay away from the Dons trade table everything gets sorted nice and easy.
Yepp Hickey became an unexpected boon. Popular guy. Might be the most popular journeyman since Martin Pike....though Pikey did get a flag.

When a No voter says to you "The Voice gives them a privilege that I don't have", just ask them "so do you think the AFL indigenous round is racist and divisive?" - they scamper real quick
You will get plenty of people who will say yes to that, especially now.

It's a better question to ask them what they think of Adam Goodes.

But indigenous players get a special round that non-indigenous players don't get, so surely that must be racist and divisive because so many No voters told me the Voice is racist and divisive because indigenous Australians get something that they don't have.
Compelling comparison of a themed AFL round to a change in a countries constitution. But yeah keep going.

Righties keep repeating this ABSOLUTE LIE that the voice was a stab at ethno-seperatism and would award extra rights and make Indigenous Peoples better than everyone else.

All the voice was proposed to be was a translatory body between all the different indigenous groups and the central governing body in Australia. Constitutional Recognition was there simply to acknowledge that they were here first.

No extra rights. No extra privileges. No ethnic group better than any other.

It's not playful misinterpretation. It's not mistaken. YOU ARE REPEATING A LIE.

Who said it is a stab? Im saying this is what many would have felt.

How do you know its a lie? Do you have stats which show that new Australians were in favour of the Voice?

Or maybe stats which show the reasons why they voted no?

Or are you making shit up to make yourself feel better because you think youre a better person?

Pro tip: you really arent.

It boils down to the No voters' simplistic "but they get something I don't get" argument, but not surprisingly you chose to bypass this
I've heard people complain about rounds like this.

Pride round gets them way more upset.

Normally your postings are a lot better than this.

Converts are always the worst, my Nan was a converted Catholic and she was a bloody nightmare about it, particularly when it came to her favourite hellbound grandson. Mundine converted to the Sydney Institute on marriage and has been a complete pain in the arse about it since then too.

Pride round gets then way more upset.

Pride round and indigenous round are now filtering down into local footy and also junior footy in both men and women’s competitions where they are even getting jumper designs and sock designs made up.

It is getting bigger and bigger.

Maybe focus on that wonderful growth.

Mundine is nothing more than a bought voice. It’s incredible that people would genuinely believe he represents the indigenous population. He’s nothing more than one of the ‘elites’ that he bangs on about.
