Link to the proposed Referendum, from the Referendum Working Group:
(Edited 6 April 2023)

These are the words that will be put to the Australian people in the upcoming referendum as agreed by the Referendum Working Group (made up of representatives of First Nations communities from around Australia):

"A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?"

As well as that, it will be put to Australians that the constitution be amended to include a new chapter titled "Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples".

The details would be:

The Prime Minister has committed to the government introducing legislation with this wording to parliament on 30 March 2023 and to establishing a joint parliamentary committee to consider it and receive submissions on the wording, providing ALL members of Parliament with the opportunity to consider and debate the full details of the proposal.

Parliament will then vote on the wording in June in the lead up to a National Referendum.

The ANU has issued a paper responding to common public concerns expressed in relation to the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice here:

Summary details of the key points from this paper may be found in Chief post here:
The Uluru Statement from the Heart:
Not specifically No. In any case it does not form part of the Referendum proposal.

Seeing as things have gotten a bit toxic in here, let's try to return things to a more civil tone.

The following will result in warnings to begin with, and if said behaviour continues will be escalated:
  • referring to another poster as racist without direct provocation.
  • dismissing or deriding another poster's lived experience.
  • personal attacks or one line posts designed solely to insult or deride.

You might notice that the final rule is from the board rules. Thought we should probably remember that this is against the rules in case it's been forgotten.

Let's play nicely from here, people.

I think it points to why Yes lost in the first place - preaching to the choir and a dose of denialism thrown in. Progress cannot be made without acknowledging the reality of the current situation first.

Current situation being a 10 year bipartisan process towards reconciliation. Which has just been wasted due to a massive misinformation campaign.

No, not really, for the most part was it.
I voted yes, but was against the referendum as a whole.
Because either way, its divisive BS.
And what do we have now?
Exactly that.
Would have been the same had yes got up.
Black Australia asked for and voted for a Voice, white Australia told them to get f***ed. It's that simple.

People oppose the referendum.
That opposition creates division.
People then oppose the referendum because it's........divisive.
So self-fulfilling behaviour. Deliberately so too.

If you don't agree, then think about this - if the LNP had supported the proposal, do you think it would have been anywhere near as "divisive". I don't.

Totally - but if I were in charge of the Yes campaign, I would not for a second have thought the No side would have done anything different.

the one annoying critique that kept popping up was the fear mongering view that the undecided/no voters could lose their home if the yes vote got up.

And that it persuaded people to vote no.
You seem to have been disconnected from the actual debate.

Perhaps just read for a bit mate? Catch up on the lunacy?

you see to me the only ones doing that are the insecure no crowd, it's a projected strawman persecution complex. The only ones talking about 'racist' or 'racism' are the no crowd. Frustrated into confession because the yes crowd aren't taking their childish bait.
LOL you either cannot be serious or seriously are utterly delusional. The amount of racism claims/calls of racist from yes supporters has been huge.
The left don’t work with facts, facts rarely suit their narratives. That was clear for the entire referendum.

The inability by some to accept the outcome of democracy without spewing venom and taking the trying desperately to take the moral high ground in this thread is comical.

Personally I hope Jacinta Price joins the lower house and runs for PM. The soy sipping social justice warriors would have no idea what to do and no way to denigrate here without revealing their true nature.

Her facts = your lies. I get it mate, keep punching you zealot.
LOL interesting hearing the media communication specialist on the radio this morning say the exact same thing about her facts=your lies she said it was evident certain groups called comments/statements as being disinformation when they actually were not and were being labeled that cause they didn't like the message. Then said she felt that disinformation was practiced on both sides despite what the yes side has ironically been telling us post referendum outcomes and during the campaigning. .

Eh, Im not going to think that much about it. I hate all politics and politicians equally.
Essentially you are correct. Now way around it.
I voted yes because I believe its the right thing to do.
It lost.
I feel for the people, I couldnt give a flying **** about any of the politics or politicians from either of the camps.

I was directly addressing your comment that the referendum was "divisive BS".

Edit - I've bolded that part of your comment to make things clearer.

In proportion to the repetition of racist arguments and misinformation, far as I can see.

Well I do have answers.

The campaign cost $350 millions dollars, that money could have be use to directly help some of the more remote communities for starters.

On a side note Jacinta is the voice Australian needs for reconciliation and she should be in control on aboriginal funding.

It would be a proud moment for this country to have Jacinta as PM.
