More than that, it meant that any team trying to play on was either smashed or forced wide or had their kick disrupted, which caused turnovers. So after coughing up the ball over and over, teams didnt try to play on and just kicked down the line. More 50/50 balls for us, breaking up their chains of possession and more turnovers.
Either way, it caused heaps of turnovers and they have been our No1 scoring method for five years..we've led the league in this category. We've won three flags giving teams the ball so we could get it back off them when they can least afford it (when they're running forward to attack in possession) and scoring heavily against the run of play. We didn't need to win all the stats, because we developed a way to score by having a bunch of pressure kings win possession back and racing down to score.
A bloke called SHocking hated it and became determined to change the entire structure of the game and he did. Now that scoring method and style of play is almost completely gone.
