Frustrating .
Should have been 4 goals up at 1/2 and 3/4 time , and you lose by 4 goals .

Noone to blame but ourselves there.
Mids were average and the older guys had minimal impact , yet we should have won . Not sure if it is positive or negative

Positive - generating 28 shots

People should cool down a bit. Sure the better team won but anyone watching could tell the team with the much better future didn't.
This time next year we beat those pretenders by at least 4 goals
Should of beat them by at least 4 today if we could kick straight

If Lewis isn't fit, then he doesn't play next week.

If Lewis is fit, then he doesn't play next week.

That was terrible. If his role was to lead McKay to the ball or be irrelevant then he nailed it.

Well, that was disappointing. A game characterised by a midfield that looked flat footed and a forward line that thought the behinds were the goals. Slightly better than last year in that we didn’t allow the opposition to get a run on. And our recruits have really given us something to work with- All three were amongst our best on the day.

For all the criticism of Lewis, that was the worst performance our captain has given us since the Jed Lamb game.
I'll back them in to be more competitive next week.

So little toughness displayed in the forward line.
Lewis, Breust and Gunston all playing bruise free.
A little bloke like Watson had no chance in a forward line that didn’t provide any physical presence.

Midfield: WasDuke sick? Because he looked like he didn’t want to be out there.

Lost in the coach’s box (and from poor kicking). They targeted Sicily, Newk and Lewis and we did nothing to quell their best players. Can’t believe Finn sat on the pine while Perkins and Merrett tore us up.

Moore, Worpel, Weddle, Mass, Dimma Frost and Ginni can hold their heads up.

We generated chances but weren’t good enough. Bruest, Gunston and the other forwards wasted too many gettable shots.

Very disappointing

I walk away from this game feeling frustrated but cautiously optimistic. So many things went wrong for us: our midfield got demolished convincingly, they got the general rub of the green, we kicked 17 behinds (to their 5) and arguably our three most important players in Sicily, Newcombe & Lewis didn’t fire a shot.

Despite this, we still managed to look potent going forward and if our radar had been slightly better early the result may have been different. There were also some clear teething pains, which suggests things should look better the more this group players together.

I thought we got good value out of our recruits. Ginny looked great until a sore hammy in Q3. Chol took important marks, and I was disappointed he was subbed off. D’Ambrosio accumulated, was tough, and used it well. Gunners will be handy. Watson was quiet but still generated a few scoring shots.

When our midfield does get on top, we’ll be dangerous. But they were comprehensively beaten by a young Essendon unit today, both at winning the ball and defending in transition. Not sure what the answer is.

3 of our best 5 players played shockers (Sicily, Duke, lewis) while another (Day) was out.

More scoring shots and inside 50's to three quarter time.

New recruits all fit in seamlessly.

28 scoring shots is huge for this group by recent standards.

Disappointing to lose, but that's about it. The optimism compared to the aftermath of the corresponding fixture last year is night and day.

17.5 is good kicking but the stat behind that is Essendon dominated centre clearances and this was primarily with quick replies when we kicked a goal. An issue throughout the game was that the team was not able to muster any momentum for any period of the game. We need more players to start taking more responsibility and ownership and in particular, the up and comers who have been around a few years now because the future depends on them.

Otherwise, it was a credible effort but on today's performance neither team is going to threaten top 8. We can only hope that we can keep improving and the younger players take more responsibility for their role and the team. I thought all the new recruits performed well and was pleasantly surprised by D'Ambrosio and Ginnivan in their first game for the club.

Absolutely ridiculous move, what was the point? Seemed like a big brain scheme that did not pay off.

It was as if Mitchell was doing his best crazy Bevo impression.

Throwing magnets around for the sake of it.

Lewis doesn't play bruise free. His issue is he is afraid to hurt his teammates. The likes of Hawkins, Cameron, Lynch etc will all run through their teammate if that teammate is in the way of a lead
