We opted to cruise to an easy bruise free 40 point win against them at home last year rather than putting them to the sword like most other decent teams did.

Expecting similar.

YEAH BRUZ DONT NEED YOU BASHING INTO EACH OTHER WE GOT A GOOD MARGIN STOP LEADING AND RUNNING

Hard to imagine him taking the same tack on the training track in the lead-up to a certain Prelim, isn’t it?

‘Boys, boys, pull your heads in! We’ve got a Grand Final in 2 weeks!’

I'm predicting they'll go with just Dixon and Marshall forward and pick both Soldo and Sweet.

I also think Ollie (Wines) will spend a lot of time in the SPP role and Mead will get a lot of his midfield minutes.

Jed is an absolute lock - was one of the best performers in the preseason (didn't have becoming a Jedhead on my 2024 bingo card). Good luck to him but I still think long term he's keeping his spot warm for a more talented genuine small forward

These thoughts are what I think will happen, not my personal preferred options (except for Jed now being a lock for round 1 - shout out to my fellow Jedheads)

Ollie will be in the guts.

The old 2023 chestnut:

"There's plenty of time to make up the percentage"

Narrator: "They finished outside the top 2 on percentage"

Its like these people have the memory of a goldfish

Do you think these muppets even watched the Port trial or preseason game?

Finlayson didn’t make the extended bench against Freo and MG only played the last part of the trial against Adelaide.

Finlayson maybe, but MG won’t even be on the emergency list.

While you’re not wrong based on pre-season selections. IMO this is still our current best 22 (spp to replace mcentee)

I’d still prefer Finlayson to Lord

I think we all know that we're going to make this look harder than it needs to be. Almost certainly trailing at quarter time, spend the second quarter catching up, kick away for an unconvincing 5 goal win in the second half. Can't wait for some anonymous spud to get 4 or 5 goals out the back.

Kenneth Hinkley post match "Our BEST win Eva !"

I don’t get what they are doing with Finlayson, to not even be in a team with 8 on the bench. Unless the plan was to always give Lord, Dixon and Marshall full games (given Dixon and Marshall missed preseason games and Lord is new).

However, based on preseason form, McEntee has earnt his spot. DBJ should be in trouble.

Yeah no idea. Finlayson did have shin splints. From experience, I know they can take a while to recover from. Maybe they’re just building his load up.

From the extended bench from last week i think it is pretty obvious that Sweet and Evans won't make selection. That leaves one more to cull and one to make as sub. I'm thinking that the sub will be one of Williams/Mead/Burgoyne.

The Question needs to be asked about what to do about Lord, because he barely touched it for both trial games. I get that Finlayson is out of form, but i'd still have him in ahead of Lord at this stage. Do they persist with Lord, or pick Finlayson or go without another tall forward meaning both Mead and Burgoyne get a full game and Williams is the sub.

I personally think Boak did more than enough to warrant a full game, i though he played really well and just gut run his way to selection.

Lord has never played a decent trial game or sanfl game in his life.

Nothing wrong with his afl form.

Think Port will disregard everything he does pre-season and take him on trust.

Finlayson has struggled and probably needs to earn a call up from the sanfl.

Take him on trust?

Lord isnt Robbie Gray, he has played 13 games.

If we are picking up from where we left off last season Lord is in front of Finlayson.

Has Finlayson done anything pre-season that suggests he's back to last year's early season form.

I'd start Lord over him and let Finlayson earn it back.

i think Lord's form towards the end of last year has always been a bit overrated.

Yeah he shows some promise, but lets not kid ourselves here, statistically he was worse than even the bad Finlayson.

He got on the end of 4 goals from 6 kicks in the QF but other than that he kicked 11 goals from 12 games. And we probably look at that even more positively because the rest of the team was a joke that night but Finlayson kicked 38 goals last year.

Finlayson is a better player right now, but maybe we are eyeing the future a bit more with Lord due to the fact that this is probably Dixon's last year and maybe there are other things going on with Finlayson.

If you take out the 4 goals in the QF, he hasn't done a lot.

The potential is there but he is still to earn his spot.

If we play with structure and our forwards lead up to the ball carrier then we should win easily but because Ken it will be an ugly and lazy 5 goal win.
Don't you understand our game plan?
We NEVER lead into space towards the ball carrier.
If we do, it's a dummy lead - to allow us to bomb it on top of Dixon or Marshall's head.
Kern said so!

Typically the first up to say 5 rounds are all teams and the players out and about. Fresh bodies and legs, new coach etc etc so there is likely to be a few seemingly upsets during these rounds. Power should win ok. South Adelaide would occasionally defeat Port Adelaide magpies which was a big upset of the local, provincial league.

We should win by 10/15 goals ..

But that's depending on the umpires and the chairman of the WWAFL ...

Also lord is a beast give him the keys and let him take ownership of the forward line
