Maybe try this for the NAB Cup...

FB: Cam SHENTON / Tom SIMPKIN / Dylan ROBERTON
HB: Dan McKENZIE / Hugh GODDARD / Sam FISHER
CR: Blake ACRES / Luke DUNSTAN / Eli TEMPLETON
HF: Jack SINCLAIR / Spencer WHITE / Dan MARKWORTH
FF: Ahmed SAAD / Paddy McCARTIN / Josh BRUCE
RK: Billy LONGER / Seb ROSS / Jack NEWNES
IC: Darren MINCHINGTON / Jimmy WEBSTER / Nathan WRIGHT / Jack BILLINGS

A nice mix of the young and 2nds, with some senior blokes thrown in.
...maybe add Weller and Holmes to your subs? (6 interchange in NAB)

Then Round 2 of the NAB Challenge?
B: Jimmy WEBSTER - Luke DELANEY - Dylan ROBERTON
HB: Cam SHENTON- Hugh GODDARD - Nathan WRIGHT
C: Blake ACRES - David ARMITAGE - Shane SAVAGE
HF: Ahmed SAAD - Spencer WHITE - Tim MEMBREY
F: Josh BRUCE - Tom LEE - Eli TEMPLETON
R: Jason HOLMES - Jack NEWNES - Seb ROSS
I/C: Jarryn GEARY - Daniel MARKWORTH - Josh SAUNDERS - Lewis PIERCE - Tom CURREN - Paddy McCARTIN

So ins are Membrey, Lee, Holmes, Saunders, Pierce, Curren

Yet to play, so in for the last round .... Riewoldt, Dempster, Montagna, Ray....?
...and bring back Fisher, Billings, Longer, Dunstan and possibly Weller
Who would go out is anyone's guess.

Not sure Tom Lee is as big, strong, tough and as expendable as Beau Maister pinch hitting in the ruck

Putting the rubbish ht/wt stats aside, Tom Lee is not a big man... Could be argued he is not even KP size... An even shorter Roberton/Gilbert. Bruce is certainly taller, more aggressive and runs better.

Just thinking about the potential for Josh Bruce as that second tall.

We have to remember, Bruce was named an U18 All Australian as a tall forward in 2010. He was right next to Sam Day in the team list, beating out Thomas Lynch, Jack Darling, and several other eligible tall forwards that year. The only reason we haven't heard about him in terms of being a gun forward, is because of two things: 1, he was taken outside of the draft as part of the GWS startup concessions; and 2, because the Giants had so many other gun forwards in Cameron, Patton, etc, that they couldn't play Bruce up forward and tried to turn him into a backman instead.

What if - just what if - he actually is a fantastic tall forward? What if the AA back in 2010 was a fair estimation of his potential? What if the only reason he's not gone on, is because he was played in the wrong position all this time? What if all this time stuck in the backline has meant that he's learned the defensive side of the game better, and he can utilise this very effectively now up forward? What if, we just realised we have a tall forward who now has five years of pre-season and bodily development, and he's ready made to shine this year?

Last year, when he was moved forward in the VFL, he became a revelation for their side, having 5 scoring shots on several occasions. It resulted in him coming back into the AFL team as a forward from Round 18: in that game, against Freo, he was extremely important at drawing players away from other talls like Stanley and Roo, leading to the great result; in round 19, he kicked 3 goals against the Suns; against the Doggies in Round 20, he kicked another goal; after that, he succumbed to injury.

I actually think Bruce could be a massive key to this season up forward. All eyes are on Patty, Spencaaa, Lee, etc. But I'm banking on Bruce, first and foremost as that second tall.

I agree with you Perse...

Also, I think people are forgetting that Billy Longer was considered a ruckman with genuine forward ability as a junior... There's no reason to suggest he can't be at least a handful down there.

HF: Membrey - Riewoldt - Billings
FF: Saad* - Bruce - Longer

Or as I like to put it:

HF: Kicked 47 NEAFL goals in 2013 and 48 in 2014 - AFL Legend - Impressive #3 picked youngster
FF: Gun small forward with a point to prove - Under 18 AA Tall forward - Under 18 AA Forward-ruck
EMG: Buddy Franklin lookalike on the field - Gun young WAFL forward who is now fully fit - the new Milne - #1 pick tall forward - seasoned AA

So far, all eyes have been on what looks like a pretty darn good backline for us: Fisher, Geary, Dempster, Delaney, Webster, Savage, Wright, Goddard, etc. The midfield has slipped under the radar, but has some class with Steven, Armitage, Montagna, Newnes, Dunstan, just for starters. But very few have seen our forward line as potentially a weapon.

WHAT IF our forward line actually IS a weapon? What if Bruce becomes a 40+ goal tall forward? What if Saad comes back with a point to prove and kicks about 30+? What if Membrey brings all that talent in the NEAFL and kicks nearly 50 goals in the seniors, making Sydney regret not playing him over hacks like Buddy and Kurt? What if Billings reveals his class even more? What if the only reason Lee hasn't been able to keep kicking at a 1.7-goal-a-game ration like late 2013 is because of injuries that are now resolved? What if Spencaaaa lives up to all the hype (or heck, only half of it! :p )

I'm telling ya, we could actually be a lot better than many of us have expected!

Perhaps in a couple of years when our midfield is up to scratch but we will not be having multiple 50 goal goal kickers whilst inside 50 delivery is like it is.

Giving the senior players first crack and combining all the 'off season talk' here is my latest attempt -

FB: Dempster - Delaney - Webster
HB: Wright - Fisher - Savage
C: Newnes - Membrey - Montagna
HF: Templeton - Bruce - Armitage
FF: Billings - Riewoldt - Hickey
R: Longer - Dunstan - Steven
I: Geary - Ray - Acres
S: (Saunders)

- Hickey to start forward as he comes back from injury. He and Longer will rotate through the ruck for the first 3qtrs.

- One of Hickey/Longer to be subbed off for Saunders who plays fwd/mid.

- Membrey to start in the middle and drift forward. His midfield time will increase each week as he builds his tank per Richo's plan. When the sub is made he will move to the forward line and play as the third tall in place of Hickey/Longer.

- Bruce to play as a hit up forward on the opposite wing to Riewoldt when leading. Will also pinch hit in the ruck after the sub is made.

- Geary in for Ray this year. I'd like to see Farren play 10-15 games as the first emergency for injuries though. Love his flexibility.

Probably a very long shot but it would be a very interesting side to watch develop!

You have Wright twice.

Well as an outsider, id suggest Swapping Armitage with Membrey. Membrey should get his fair share in the midfield but first and formost is a Goal-kicking Forward. Slot in Farren Ray in for half-back wright. From the games ive seen Ray looks like one of tour better half back runner and have seen him play good games in the middle. Bruce is actually shaping up to be a good forward target but maybe someone like Lee or White would get a go ahead of him, as i see Bruce as a better backmen

after reading these best 22s i think as a collective we all under-estimate weller. i think he's one who might end up playing a full season and be a lock for the midfield and will probably keep someone like curren out
Yep, if TC is playing, it isn't for Weller's spot. I think his best bet is beating out, say, Ross for that inside mid role.

Bruce - Lee - Lonie
Hickey - Armitage - Steven

Dunstan - Acres - Templeton - Ross

Essentially the onballers could start a number of ways depending on match ups/tags.
I love Bruce in the forward line, he's a good grab and very aggressive when the ball hits the deck.
