Remember there was a game against West coast and they kept pinging us for 15 metre kicks and then they just forgot about it for the rest of the round?
every single year we cop the extreme take on the new interpretations, then they correct it for everyone else

sometimes its not even the start of the season, remember Rance getting a free kick for milking it and coping a fine for staging? then the carry on when Grimes got pushed in the back and got a free kick for it against the bombers? AFL fined him for staging FFS and how many people have coped that rule since?

Given Hopper has had a big pre season and coming into this the best shape he has been, I would rather see him in the guts to win his own ball and let Kmac run with Cripps.

Cripps could get 35-40 touches if we don't try something, and at our stage of development we need to be trying to keep ourselves in games longer, this might be one of those ways.

If Walsh gets off the chain then maybe change it up, but I just think KMac has the best understanding and mindset of playing a selfless game while letting our other mids hunt their own ball.
if we are pinning our success on hopper we are delusional

So basically we couldn’t win the ball (last in contested possessions + pressure factor), and we struggled to stop end-to-end transitions last season.

I can see contested possessions markedly improve this season, but those transitions are probably still going to kill us. We need players like Bauer and Blight to step up this season. If Bauer could push up the ground and intercept, then that would help defending against transitions. I heard aerial contests wasn’t Smillie’s strong suit, but it would be nice if he played a similar role in the midfield at times. Just need more players that cut off opposition ball movement. Vlastuin and Nankervis can’t do it all.

Great. so Taranto plays like s### and McIntosh plays slightly less s### so that justifies his position. The real question is what the advantage in playing either of them.
we need a few of our boys that can play a solid 4 quarters, gut run at around 80% of their match/playing time. taranto selection is a no brainer. macca is another who can and will do this, another pre-season or two of conditioning short is why the durable macca gets the nod over some of the young promising cubs. its a no brainer we are gunna be gasping half way thru the last in many games with so many kids.
