How much were we paying before our two wins last year?
$4 against Swans and and $5.40 against the Crows.

To put in perspective how long these $10 odds are, North are $3.10 to beat the Dogs and Essendon is $3.50 to beat the Hawks. Odds wise, we're about as likely to win as for both North and Essendon to win there games are.

Would people rather McAuliffe plays as sub or gets a full game in the VFL if they were the options?
Normally I would say VFL but as it is first game of the season players usually struggle a bit to run out a game. More than likely he will come in during the third Q. He will add some energy and physicality so the sub is not such a bad place to be this early in the season.

Bookies have Richmond at $10 and Carlton at $1.05. You rarely have odds that wide let alone and upset to go along with it.

It would for sure be one of the biggest upsets of the last decade.
Is it often that the odds are so wide in a team’s first game of the season? I thought the odds would’ve been more conservative given neither Richmond nor Carlton have any form.

I looked at the website flashscore for an example of historical odds, and Richmond vs Carlton was 1.11 to 7.25 respectively heading into the 2019 round 1 match. Richmond were reigning minor premiers and Carlton were the reigning wooden spooners with only two wins and three 100-point losses the year before.

I’m pretty sure in 2023 and 2024 they were one of the youngest lists in the competition. I don’t even understand what point you’re trying to make considering I never argued against any of that.
McIntosh is a battler and can contribute, I’d rather we prioritised devolpment of our under 23’s than give him another 20 games starting this year.
the point is the under 23s aren't much chop.

sub, right under their nose what they are missing and better chance to prove he is up to it.

He also faded in games last year, so could be high impact as sub.

We are a rebuilding side. We have a couple of youngsters who were drafted as pure midfielders who’ve been dominant at VFL level - Sonsie and McAuliffe… but have had almost no exposure at senior level in midfield due to lack of opportunity.

What’s to lose by giving Sonsie a few games in midfield at senior level… maybe, just maybe he’ll show something. Maybe he won’t. But why not find out ? If he’s not up to it at least we know. He gets 30 with clearances galore at VFL level. He was touted as a potential #1 as a 16yo as a midfielder.

Look at Hugo. Pickett and Macca as our ‘never to be dropped’ wingers from 2021-2023. Everyone wanted Hugo gone. But what do you know … early 2024 he gets an opportunity on the wing, and he actually played some decent football and looks like being a player… more importantly at 22yo he’s got plenty of upside.

We’ve got TT, Hopper and Ross as experienced mids - with Prestia to come back in a few weeks. Transitioning an average 30yo footballer who’s never played midfield into a full time mid role, and having Sonsie/McAullife play flanks, sub or VFL makes zero sense on any level… none.

What on earth are we worried about in giving kids midfield exposure? Losing by 14 goals instead of 10?

Let’s see what Sonsie has got. There’s actually something to gain by giving him a chance ala Hugo. There’s nothing to gain by Macca playing midfield.

We need players in our midfield who can connect with the forwards..Sonsie does this better than all excluding Brown
It is time to get him on ball with the bigger bodies of hopper and Taranto and see what he has to offer
Playing him as a permanent half forward is not helping him or the team
Last year when he went back to the VFL he played onball and alongside McAuliffe was very good then he gets promoted back to the seniors and gets plonked on a flank..can’t understand why particularly when our disposal into the forwards is so bad

Given Hopper has had a big pre season and coming into this the best shape he has been, I would rather see him in the guts to win his own ball and let Kmac run with Cripps.

Cripps could get 35-40 touches if we don't try something, and at our stage of development we need to be trying to keep ourselves in games longer, this might be one of those ways.

If Walsh gets off the chain then maybe change it up, but I just think KMac has the best understanding and mindset of playing a selfless game while letting our other mids hunt their own ball.

Think they will opt to put Hopper head to head with him to start off
Been a pretty even battle in the past when Hops has been fit

If we tag anyone i would be putting the clamps on Walsh

Cripps will win his fair share of it on the inside even with a hard tag but it’s when he can feed it out to that mother ****er that we will see our backs put under massive pressure
Yep, put the clamps on the guy who is key to kicking the ball to their forwards. You shutdown Walsh or Naicos, and their teams have no-one else capable of filling their roles.

That’s the way I see it as well

No real point tagging the inside bull because they are going to be going in and under either way and those aren’t the guys who genuinely kill you on the outside spread who can damage you with the inside 50 kicks

As you mentioned Walsh, Daicos and even Bolton for us previously would be a prime example

7/10 times if those guys have free reign and some space to deliver inside 50 they either will have a ping themselves or set up a very good scoring opportunity for the opponent
