fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. It was bad enough watching replays. DAMN

Nah .....too many mids, GAJ wasn't really a need ....that was more the romanticism of a favored son, coming home

Danger up forward, is a complete waste of arguably the best player in the league ........you still were beaten easily at centre square clearances ....that's an un-balanced midfield, which'll cost you come finals

The weirdest part of it is that Ablett would be the much better forward. They should swap them.

Yeah, can't say we have a firing midfield when we haven't won the clearances all year. I think Danger is lethal as a FWD when it's a sometime thing. Opposition defenders would be studying him atm, and as such he doesn't have nearly the same impact, as they figure out how to nullify him. Every time they sandwich him or crash over the top. For some reason Danger doesn't look nearly as quick/hungry at ground level either, so the ball waltzes away from him.

Another fantastic game we have here. The AFL are ******* campaigners and the fixture is garbage. **** OFF GILL you campaigner.
Agree. You think the dumb ****ers would line up a series of good matchups in Bye rounds.

Agreed it was more about the romanticism of Ablett’s return but his last couple of weeks has shown us he can actually add something on field as well.

Danger got 24 touches & 2 goals today playing mostly forward, so definitely not wasted. Plus the last 2 years when we haven’t been good enough we’ve been winning clearances at times but the players winning them just bomb it inside 50 without looking and we get absolutely dominated in our forward half of the ground.

Danger’s a great target inside 50 because his opponent won’t run off him as much as they might run off someone else, this allows Hawkins some more 1-on-1’s, plus having Danger (Menzel when fit) in the goal square allows Hawkins to play more up the ground which is when he plays his best footy, so not a waste at all. We’ve realised we need to lower the eyes when going inside 50 hence seeing guys like Duncan, Kelly & GAJ in the midfield more (even Cunico on the outside) because they’re the best at lowering their eyes with shorter passes inside 50. We still move Dangerfield into the centre bounce at times if the opposition are getting a run on like today.

So yes Dangerfield will win us more clearances but will 99% of the time blaze away inside 50 to Hawkins being double teamed and the opposition will intercept mark it. I love the setup of J. Selwood, GAJ & Kelly in the centre, with Duncan & Cunico on the wings, Menegola & Parfitt coming off the HFF, Dangerfield inside 50. There’s definitely a chance we simply won’t be good enough again but I’m glad we are changing things around after 2 Prelim losses in a row and trying different things. Once S. Selwood comes back in I’d expect Parfitt to become more of a small forward pressure player, Kelly moves onto HFF taking over Parfitt’s old role, and S. Selwood moves into the middle to be our main defensive midfielder in there which helps with that balance so we aren’t just 100% attacking midfielders and no defensive ones.
