That's what happens when all our defenders are 5 meters behind their opponent

We've been the superior team in the first half by a fair margin. They've only kicked the one goal from a "legitimate" source, which was when Fyfe took his hanger. Literally every one of their remaining goals was direct from a contested snap in traffic. That's great for Freo, and shows just how skilled they are and how worthy they are of being the #1 team in the competition, but it's not exactly the most reliable way to score their goals. We've stifled their forward movement to the point that they've been utterly incapable of generating any clean possession inside their forward fifty. Meanwhile, we've generated the majority of our scores from marks and clean possession under very little pressure going forward. It's a clear win from the standpoints of gameplan, intensity and application.

We aren't as talented as they are, we aren't as big as they are, we aren't as strong as they are - but we're catching up fast. Regardless of what happens from here, that's a half to be proud of. We took it up to, and outplayed, the best in the comp.

Great first half. There were annoying things that happened, but overall this is so far above what we were expecting tonight. We're going toe to toe with Freo and winning so far. Their scoring has been a lot more flukey and less methodical than ours. They just about can't biy a mark in their F50 and Pav and Mayne are giving them SFA.

Every chance to keep this up and win it. Loving this.

Cheap goal to give away at the end there. Would have been handy to go into the change rooms with a 8 point lead.

At least the boys are giving it a dip. Don't know if we can keep it up until the end. Hopeful though.

Gotta say our defence never looks sure of themselves when they get the ball, they would prefer not to have it in their hands and try and offload it as someone else's problem.

Adams is turning into a very good footballer, Varcoe has been terrific as has Pendlebury.

Lift in the 2nd half from Elliott, Cloke and Swan would go a long way to seeing us win

They are getting all those snaps for goal not because of bad defending, it's more because of missed tackles and getting sucked in to the first ball carrier. We target the ball carrier with numbers, and if they get it off there's a loose player on the outside. It's our trademark also, missed tackles and getting sucked into contests and leaving the skillful players out open.
