That was because 8 weeks ago it was a silly comment. I’m not sure waiting 8 weeks justifies a comment back then. Matter of fact I’m sure it doesn’t. If you said it 3 weeks ago it might carry some weight.
Yep.
8 weeks ago Higgins was a different player. Injuries and form slumps happen to every team. Through circumstances it‘s probably right he’s not playing now. I doubt the entire 22 is set in stone as injuries etc do occur And often it’s horses for courses.

So a blanket statement is very rarely appropriate when we’ve got about 30 who could be in the team at any time.

Start the day out of the 8 and unfortunately I have a bad feeling we’ll stay there for the rest of the year. As much rides on this game for the Swans as us and can’t see them losing at home with their talent and culture. Hope I’m wrong, hope we give a good account of ourselves. Watching Essendon revert back to being terrible last night was depressing.

Not if he signs before which is the president’s expectation

He probably already has but like all boards if misses the 8 and start next year with a few losses we would toss him overboard to save the board. You know how footy works.

I think the return of Steele will give us some stability and a bit of backbone. Hope the rest of the team rally round him rather than spectate.
I think the ins are good. The question for me is replacing Hill’s run.
Hunter can distribute off half back and if ever we’ve needed him to come good it’s now.
Sharman with 3, King 4.

I certainly know if it comes out he has signed a new contract before the end of the year he won’t be sacked. That wouldn’t be allowed by the afl for a start and would make the board look more foolish than re signing him.

Say we're on a ship together. 8 weeks ago I say I can see land. You and most others disagree.

Now here we are 8 weeks later on the shore. But still you disagree, and say if I'd said I could see land 3 weeks ago instead, when a lot of other people could, it would have carried weight.

What you said contains very little logic. Perhaps lay off the keyboard once in a while, grab a refresh. And btw the whole idea of getting ahead in most areas of life is spotting things before the wisdom of the crowd. Harks back to survival of the fittest I believe.

Go Saints.

Agreed. Hoping Steele's shoulder holds up

If he’s signed he’ll see out the year but he’d only have a short run next year if we don’t start well. The board would be looking for new hobbies otherwise.

No idea what you are on about but it’s more likely the person who saw land 3 weeks ago is right than a person 8 weeks ago unless it’s a bloody slow boat. 8 weeks ago was 2 concussions ago. You do realise that?

So now he is coaching next year if signed. All I know is sacking coaches doesn’t work. Pretty sure I said the same thing about 100 times around 3 years ago If they aren’t sure don’t re sign him.

The 8 isn’t done if we lose this but each one we drop the confidence erodes a bit more and we have a tough run home.

Ratts job would be on shaky ground if we don’t make the 8.
You're right. The 8 isn't done if we lose...but the dogs are getting their bite back, and the Tigers are looking good. Sydney are better than us in terms of resilience, and feckin' Collingwood are coming from nowhere. If we lose, I don't like our chances...with the exception of the Pies, all these other teams know how to land their punches.
We just seem better at shitting the bed, and kicking ourselves in the teeth when it comes time to shape and stand up.
We REALLY need this one.

Disappointed that the broken clock is right twice a day analogy hasn't come up yet.
I travelled up on the same plane as the Sandringham players yesterday. Higgins was amongst them. Hope he kills it this afternoon. We are a better side when he's playing well. Got my tickets for tonight and looking forward to the game. I tossed a coin and the saints came up winners. I'm even prepared to use voodoo if it gets us a win!

The way I look at it if we win tonight we are what what I expected in the last 2 games. One win and one loss just the complete opposite. Our form suggests we are close to no hope. The betting the same but for some reason I think we are a chance. Midfields similar. Rucks both injured. Backs and forwards similar. Wouldn’t mind a good start for a change though. I suppose if we lose we shouldn’t be surprised though. Our last good game was Geelong. That’s a long time ago. That is why a loss tonight is the end. Our form would suggest we can’t turn it around if we lose tonight.

And even then it was only 15 minutes of good footy.

I think its almost certain if we loose tonight we wont make the 8 let alone top 4 like some were banging on about , In fact regardless of tonight's result i don't think we can make the 8 unless they can really get their sh1t together , too many up and down each week , cant kick a winning score just to mention a few things .
I hope they give Windy some time in the guts as at least he has a few tricks , our mids need to step up and they cant rely on Steele to carry them all the time

Surely if we win tonight we are very close to back in form though. Only takes a game to get or lose form.

The thing I am looking forward to the most is watching Sharman play. I'm wondering if he is good below his knees and is capable of contested football and especially when the ball is in dispute at ground level.

I just look and say who else will we beat and its only Carlton ATM as they have no backline but knowing us we will sh1t the bed like we did against them last year when we really needed to win ,

Yep - if you bring effort and intensity to every game you're rarely far away from "form".

But if fail to turn up (like last week) then that's a much bigger problem.

Because that can only be put down to the coach not inspiring the players or the players not inspiring themselves.

I can't see us winning this one over there. So we'll probably win.

Great to have Steele back, but being his 1st game of any sort after a long break I would temper expectations of how he will go.

Marshall looked injured last week, hope he is fit enough to play this game.

We will miss the run from Hill.

To win: We need Clark and Jones to take a massive step up, NWM to slice them up. Sharman and King and Membery to hit the scoreboard heavily.

8 weeks ago Higgins had just been best on in the previous 2 games and was sitting top 10 in the coaches votes after back-to-back perfect games.

Not sure gloating that you thought he was crap 8 weeks ago is the badge of honour you think it is.
