Look at the bigger picture, we've just come off winners against Richmond, Dogs and Melbourne. This game was always going to be a come down from a tough patch and credit to Carlton, they threw everything at us.... But our worst was good enough.

Look it wasn’t a great game, we didn’t hit out straps and didn’t get the percentage boost we needed. But we won by just getting it done. Carlton came to play and threw everything at us. Several of their players had career best games whilst we were off.

Gray, Rocky, Houston, Lindsay, Clurey, Trengove, Westhoff and Wingard were all good.

Dixon and Boak worked hard but just didn’t quite nail it.

Pittard, Howard, Hombsch, S.Gray, Marshall and Bonner were poor today. Our midfield group as a whole didn’t nail it and Carlton matched or bettered is here.

Unbelievably bad third quarter, but at least a fight back in the 4th. We would have lost that to an 18th ranked team given a sniff and more desperate to win in previous years, so good to at least step up when it counted to secure the 4 points against a team we should have annihilated.

We weren't great, but we lose this in previous years. There's more resilience in this group, which will hopefully be to their and our benefit in September. There are still things to work on (aren't there always?) but we're a better team than last year and certainly better than the dross from 2015/16.
