Only for the final 23 man squad. With a 26 man squad, that isn’t the case. Max Ramsden earlier this year was omitted on Friday after being named on Thursday night in the starting 18 to play the Sunday game.
And so Harry is no lock to play even though he has been named on the wing. That feels a bit sh!t given his solid form in the VFL. Yet Ward has arguably been better than H.

It is a good problem for the Hawks to have with players, … but I do not understand the idea of not naming, and sticking to (bar injury) your starting 18. Oppo coaches will set themselves for all eventualities, and so it is only the fans that are getting stooged.

Anyone got a theory on why Breust is omitted the week after a bye considering he has been playing the sub role to perfection?
Hard Optus stadium, coupled with the slippery surface and the travel time back wouldn’t be great for his groin. You would imagine he comes back in for next week, while Gunners might be managed after playing this week.

Based on BHH form I'd have Morrison or Finn in ahead of Ward.

Not much in it though between the 3 though.
It is a close run thing. All three have been good.
For me, Finn still has to have a run with role in the AFL or play with Box Hill. I have loved his development in the VFL as an inside and then free running mid and seen his growth as a player. I have seen him hit a few good targets by foot (he is getting better) but he still misses too many for the AFL. A cheeky thing would be to put him on Harley. That would be fun.
Harry does few things wrong and links well.
Ward has greatly improved at Box Hill. His production has been top notch. And he is hitting targets. He looks like he could become a bull, but is not there yet.

My head says Ward, my heart says H, but my schadenfreude-loving side says, let Finn go after Harley.

Do we have a habit of not selecting someone after they have been named in the starting 18? I can't remember us doing it previously but I could be wrong.

His Box Hill form has been very good but if he in the squad I would have thought it would have been a straight swap for CJ?
HH was named on field early in the year for a Sunday game and then not selected.

No. He traveled to SA to play Port and also spent the night away for Tassie games.
Simply at his age with the groin issues the long flight to WA and the shifty service, it is a perfect time for an extra week off.
And there is a section squeeze. Note: I am not saying Breust is being squeezed out: he has been an excellent sub, … just that he is considerate guy and so is OK with not playing if it works for the team. He seems to be groomed as a coach and this may be part of that process.

This was posted just the other day and Dear’s pinky is in a splint. Could be nothing as he is playing basketball.

Footy players play through finger injuries all the time, that's why they all end up with disgusting hands and fingers.

Remember meeting Corey McKernan once and going to shake his hand, looked like his fingers were trying to escape the handshake in different directions.

I had a chat with Cory the other day (not true) and his fingers were

The fans can also change their thinking on the 26 squad and realise it’s just the list of names from which the final 23 will be chosen.

Thus not getting wound up about a squad being named.

My god Landsberger is horrendous to listen/watch

How he has a job in Football is beyond me

Questioning that their is something sinister behind Bruest being managed

What did he say was sinister about it?

Sam on SEN said that their plan to help get Breust over his groin issues was carrying him as a sub, and then look at the bye and Perth trip as a time to give him a double week rest, hopefully to look to get him to full minutes after that.

Sounds like Finn's a chance to tag Reid then.
Possibly, but maybe less about tagging Reid and more because he's okay fill as a defensive forward now that Breust is missing.

Not my favourite in but I don't think the difference in talent between Finn, Ward, Morrison is going to be the difference between winning and losing. I'll be happy with whoever.

I hate this late Sunday time slot

Playing a game at 2pm Melbourne time in Perth means the game would start at 12pm local time. The AFL wants the Perth teams to play home games on Sunday afternoon at 2.40pm AWST means that we'll have to put up with a 4.40pm start time in Melbourne.
