Thornton out?
Yeah, you're probably right.

TBH I tacked him on at the end of the post without really thinking it through. He does perform his role down back, but much like we criticise Dustin Fletcher for only being good at the "loose man" role, Thornton is a better one-on-one player than what he showed on Saturday, and I thought his many opponents for the day each took their turn at beating him one out.

When he got away from them and was able to zone off he was very good.

I have been frustrated with Thornton all year. He has had some good games (most notably vs Lions in round 2) but he has had some shockers as well. That's fine as a KPP in your first few seasons, but he is now the leader of our defensive unit and should be producing better consistency, along with the likes of Stevens, Scotland and Houlihan.

These guys inconsistency has cost us dearly at times thie year..........not the kids, and I guess my call to drop him was along the same lines as Stevens and Scotland the week before.

Not because he isn't in our best 22, just that he may need a "push" to get the performances we know he can produce.

With Bower and Austin both in line to get a recall, it won't happen (Harts and Johnson or Anderson will get dudded) but for the long term benefit of the side I think at some stage it needs to IMO.

I think Armfield needs a run in the VFL just to re-gain form (7possies,2tackles vs Richmond) Bentley is great for aggression at the ball but sometimes looks like he has no idea what he is going to do, resulting in turnovers. I'd love to see Anderson have another run but he might need to be dropped to make room for players to come in. And Hampson to be out with an injury

OUT-Armfield,Bentley,Anderson,Hampson
IN-Scotland,Austin,O'hAilpin,Cloke

It would be great if Robbie Warnock was back now so he could replace Hampson pretty easily but he's no avalible. He would be a much better option than Cloke. Can Sentanta play ruch with Kruz and then we could give Anderson another run...
Instead it could be:
OUT-Armfield,Bentley,Hampson
IN-Scotland,Austin,O'hAilpin

Very unlikely to see that much changes as ratts did say last week that it was hard to change a winning stracture. so maybe 1 or 2 changes id think.

In- Scotland O'Hailpin
Out- Hampson (inj) Anderson ?

I agree that under normal circumstances a win would not prompt many changes, but the changes that you have suggested don't fill needs, and as a result we are likely to see more changes than usual...
O'Hailpin is not a replacement for Hampson. O'Hailpin was out of the team becasue of injury, and before the injury had been playing in the forward line, not in the ruck.
I believe that he will return to the side as a forward, meaning that we still have not covered the ruck deficiency created by the loss of Hampson, and this unfortunately means that we are going to be forced to bringCloke in.... not really a great result for us.......
Agree that Scotland has to come back in.........
So I reckon we are goint to see a minimum three changes, possibly more if Stevo trains well.......
In: O'Hailpin, Scotland, Cloke and maybe Stevens
Out: Hampson, Fisher and take your pick for the other couple...who knows...

strike me down boy if cameron cloke comes in this week we are officially craphouse.

If Cloke is included, it won't be for any other reason than due to injury. If either Hampson, Jacobs or Warnock were not injured and match fit, they would get a call up, and Cloke wouldn't be in the mix.

As it is, we may need to call up a guy who is 5th in line in our ruck stocks due to injuries.

I admit, I am no expert on other teams lists, but I would like to know which team has a guy 5th in line for the ruck spot who has as much senior experience as Cloke, and can be a genuine tall marking option up forward such as he can.

Furthermore, if he is included as a forward it would probably be because Setanta will spend time in the ruck. Keeping in mind our forwardline is a weakness, Cloke is behind Setanta and Waite as our second tall (and to a lesser extent Kruez) - but again though due to injuries we may need to call him up to fill this role.

While I'm sure he is not the best, I'd still like to know which teams have a guy 4th in line as the second tall forward who has the experience Cloke has.

Guys who are 5th in line for the ruck and 4th in line for a CHF position would be lucky to ever play a game of AFL - the fact that Cloke is this player for us is certainly not a bad thing I can assure you, and it certainly does not indicate we are 'craphouse' - quite the opposite actually.

If you believe that idiot Hutchy (sorry Mr Carlton :D) tonight on Footy Un-Classified, Sydney have put the cue in the rack for the year, and basically want to finish as low as possible and start blooding more kids, so I think we'll pump them ... We certainly owe those Swannettes a belting or two over the years ...

I would hate to see Harltett dropped this week. Would virtually mean the end of his career. He did what he had to last week. He is probably not up to Austins standard defensively but offensivley he is much better. I really want to see him in perfect conditions at Etihad using his long kicks. Not sure if Austin Hartlett Bower Jamison and Thornton can all be in the team though.

I would put Austin in the Ants until Harlett plays poorly.

Jamison will take O'loughlin
Hartlett on White
Bower on either Barlow or Grundy and goodes when he plays down there.
Thornton on whoever.

Yeah I agree maybe he should come back through the reserves, we need to give Harts a good go in the seniors.

Players should only really come back in via the VFL if they miss games because of injury and need to regain match fitness. Austin should be straight back in the 1s.

Tough call re Harts. I thought he did enough to justify retention in the 1s, but we've gotta balance the need to get games/experience into him with the need to play our best 22 and seal a finals berth.

Would be great to have the big bloke launching the ball 65 metres in still conditions under the roof against the flooders...

Certainly think Austin would have learnt his lesson missing last week. An extra week in the Ants penalises us more than it penalises him. If he is good to go than can return no probs!

In: Stevens, Scotland, Robinson/Hadley and Sent O

Out: Armfield (cousins made him look like a goose), Bentick Mark 2, Garlett (cannot hold his place when he is lucky to get 5 or 6 possessions), Fisher has to go as well, too slow and cannot kick

========================================

Hartlett stays in ahead of Austin, thought Austin stunk in each game he played.

I agree about the lesson etc, but I think we need to get good look at Hartlett while he is fit so we can make a decision on him.

If he plays out the year and plays some reasonable footy he would be worth another year on the list for depth.

Potentially - In Bower, Out Fisher and Harts can try again as a forward......but if Carlos is fit then possibly In Bower, O'hAilpin, Out: Hartlett and Fisher.

Was Jammo injured last week? Any news at training?

Bentley should probably make way for Scotland, but with the Ants having a bye I'm not sure it can be justified.
Bentley was in ahead of him from the Freo game, and played O.K. vs Tiges, and Scotty wasn't able to do anything.

Will be interesting.

Tough this week.

They have one of the form ruckman in the comp and some super hard mids in Kirk, Jude and a more than handy attacking mid in McVeigh to contend with. If we are slaughtered in the middle they won't need a superstar forward line to kick a score.

We may need Cloke for flexibility. His form hasn't been horrible at VFL from what I can gather, so we may have to plonk him at CHF and let Setanta and Kreuz alternate between ruck and resting forward. So Cloke for Hampson, and O'Hailpin back in probably for Anderson.

Because of the Swans hard bodied mids I have a feeling that Bentley will get another crack this week. Kirk and Bolton aren't great match-ups for Joseph, and the stronger bodied Bentley may have a role.

I'd be tempted to look at Robinson just for some energy and attack on the ball, probably in place of Garlett. Possibly Scotland for Armfield just for some poise coming out of the back half.

You would think there will be even greater focus on Fev after last week, so I think Fisher could prove his worth up forward if they leave him relatively unchecked. On necessity more than anything else he gets another week in my book.

You're right with AJ. ROK would probably be the one he'd go to, but may be a little big for him if they isolated ROK in the goal square. Russ will probably get the job.

I'd like to see Banno come in to play on Goodes, and Joseph get a well earned rest. Freshen him up for the next 6 weeks + (hopefully :D).

We can have a good look at players anytime.
This is a critical game for us if we want September action
Thus field our best team on the day. Now if that is Harlett over Austin fine but I think Austin has him covered myself.
This is money time. No lessons anymore. We could not turn up to play V Ess on Friday night football. That was a disgrace. Pick our best 22, set a firecracker up every player's bum because if we lose we can try all the unknowns out for the rest of the year.
Win now!
