Complaining we have to play Geelong in Geelong is the same as complaining we have to play WCE in W.A

A home ground is a home ground
So Eagles haven’t played in WA in 28 years as well? Silly comparison

It's not a difficult concept to understand.

Geelong isn't part of Melbourne
Geelong have a ground in Geelong
Other teams have played there for decades
We have been lucky for 28 years
Geelong want us to play in Geelong
It's their home game
Why should we expect Geelong to play in our town?

You're being very Essendon centric selfish

I paid membership last year and this year as many others have. Hell of a year to pick the year to play first game in 30. This isn’t just a Geelong decision

So did Geelong members, who also paid for home seats, at their home ground, in their home town.

I get it, missing a game sucks, but in this current environment it really is on the lower list of things that matter

Absolutely no issue with us playing Geelong at GMHBA, in a normal year.

I refer to the fact we have had a home game moved interstate, another home game reduced to 25% capacity and a game scheduled for the MCG against the Hawks moved interstate (which even though it was an away game, any Melbourne based Essendon fan could have attended).

Now we have a 4th game where many Melbourne based Essendon fans won't be able to attend. Given the circumstances, They could have moved this to the MCG this year. Geelong have played interstate 4 times this year and are scheduled to play only one more interstate. We have played interstate 7 times and scheduled to play one more.

It is only a minor issue and as I said, am fine with us playing at GMHBA under normal circumstances.

Ultimately, the AFL have bigger concerns, so nothing will happen. They didn't relocate our Hawthorn game to the MCG at the start of the season when both clubs were in favour of it.

I don't understand how this can be a reasonable discussion point.

Just because Essendon missed a couple of home games from COVID, how is that Geelong's problem?

Their home game, they should be able to play it where they want.

If you have an issue with your membership, Essendon is the club to contact. Not the AFL, not Geelong.

It's certainly not Geelong's problem, and it's their home game so they can do as they like with it (unless we have a gate split agreement or something? Country round etc).

But it is a bit interesting for a member who has Melbourne away access as part of their reserved seat membership. I started the season with a reserved seat at 11 home games including Dreamtime and away access to all games in Melbourne, of which there were supposed to be 5 including Anzac Day. So to have three of the last four games that I had already bought tickets to moved out of Melbourne is actually an issue.

But that's an issue for Essendon, and who knows with everywhere else locked down maybe we play our away games to the NSW clubs in Melbourne and get "replacement home games" that way. Otherwise maybe there is some sort of compensation, once we know what the damage is at the end of the season.

Yep. I'm High Mark reserved seat at all home and away games in Melbourne, so I don't like missing out but the answer is with what compensation Essendon can offer and whether I take them up on it.

I decided to pay my whole membership last year but the longer this kind of thing happens then the less I'd be inclined to do so.

Same, although I'm not High Mark, only Bronze 😛 I'd like to move up to a better tier but atm I spend half my time sitting in GA with people who don't have memberships so there's not a lot of point.

I’m bronze too. But with home and away reserved seats. I can’t change my membership at all (i.e move to silver or high mark) because I’d lose my allocated away seats. Think the club only offers away access now.

It’s not too bad. I like the bronze level seats haha.

On another note, Essendon injury report is out. Snelling likely to play. Phillips has a minor hamstring.

Flip-side of the GMHBA argument is that we host big clubs at the G (Pies, Tigers, generally the hawks when they're supporters don't go into hiding, Blues), despite Marvel being our true home ground these days.

AFL has always scheduled Vic games at the venue of maximum return.

That said, we should play Geelong there.
And ideally get away from Marvel given it can't support our fan base, let alone an opposition base too.

Any fear of crowd based umpire favouritism should be put to bed too.
Crowd or no crowd, they will screw us on decisions.

In- Snelling, Francis, Cutler
Out- Zaharakis, Hooker, Cox
Emergencies- Reid, Durham, Bryan

Tall at the back with Francis, Stewart, Laverde, Ridley & Zerk.

Ridley Zerk Stewart
Francis Laverde Hind
Heppell as defensive cover off the wing (in place of Cox)
?

It's essentially a 2 tall/3 medium/2 small structure. Plenty of clubs play a similar structure.

Melbourne use May, Petty/Lever, Hibberd/Rivers, Hunt, Salem
Port use Aliir, Clurey/McKenzie, Jonas, Burton/Byrne-Jones, Hartlett
Brisbane use Andrews, Adams/Gardiner, Birchall, Starcevich/Rich, Ah Chee
Western Bulldogs use Keath, Gardner/Wood, Williams/Crozier, Daniel, Duryea

As their preferred structures. And they're the 4 best defensive sides in the league this year.

We already played our away games vs the NSW clubs. GC at Metricon is the only interstate game left.
