The Facebookers that attributed the loss to Hinkley NOT being there. Sigh.

For those of us that witnessed Bassett-Norwood era, yesterday's game was nothing of that kind. It was as you expect of a stand in coach, to implement the current game style and most of the typical positional moves.

I was bloody surprised that he kicked that late goal from the same spot on the ground.

I wasn't. By that point the pressure was off because we were so far behind. That's when our players really thrive. It's why we play our best footy when we're well behind but then stop dead when getting back in front becomes realistic. We are a club with a deeply ingrained loser culture of choking under pressure and expectation.

And none of this is helped by our good bloke recruiting strategy. Who in our team has any mongrel? Dixon does. Maybe SPP. When was the last time any of our players got in trouble off field? They're all nice guys. Which is great off field but on field it translates to being an apologetic bunch of soft losers who don't perform when the going gets tough.

Terry Wallace level of having a voice for TV/radio. He played in 3 Hawthorn premierships too, apparently.

He sounds like he's been huffing helium.

The game contained all the usual Port ****ups, but even with those the Facebookers extrapolating losing by more than twice as much at home earlier in the year, when Hinkley was in the box to 'we lost without Hinkley' shows just what a shitshow combination of deluded and how much of a sunk cost support for Hinkley is to them.

Jacko on FB thinks we’re 3 or 4 years away from another crack.😢
But with the right people in the right positions, it's possible to turn things around quickly. In mid 2020, we smashed Melbourne by 9 goals - 15 or so months later, they won a flag. I realise that a helluva lot of things need to go right before such a rapid improvement can occur, and tough decisions need to be made. The question is, are we prepared to make the tough calls?

sorry to offend you. i dont rate boak highly because he disappears in every big game. fails to finish when it counts, eg last showdown. but still gets massive accolades.
he is not a bad player, not a good player either.
you are worshipping a false idol and that is what sickens me.
How about a bit more respect for a bloke who has broken our games record no less than 17 times this season, and will break it again on Saturday :).

Has our admin made a single tough call on anything since 2013? Can't see them starting now.

Thoughts:
  • Skills are sub par for a team that should be pushing for a flag.
  • Stupid decision to play Bonner over Burgoyne - yeah, Riley has been having a good season and has been hitting contests etc., but that doesn't mean he's suddenly become a hard nut with a high pain tolerance. He was always going to put in that performance.
  • We are still missing Lycett. Scott frees up Dixon to stay forward and stretches the opposition defence while at the same time providing that needed linkup extra mid. Teakle could also do the same thing. Hayes should be able to, but doesn't.
  • Pickett absolutely destroyed us while our guy who could do something similar in Fantasia hasn't taken the field all year.
  • Powell-Pepper had another one of his 'almost' games - could have had three goals, ended up with zero.
  • Rozee - 33 disposals, 3 tackles, 4 clearances, 6 inside 50s, 1 goal and 1 goal assist. Stick that in your piehole, King.
  • Conversely - Gray had 23 disposals for the grand total of 136m gained. That's less than 6m per disposal. Butters was almost as bad with 20 disposals at 180m gained. Not good enough - Gray is an old man so him dinking the ball around is understandable, but Zak shouldn't be trying to emulate him.
  • But as for the player who was the most useless - that goes to Georgiades. And I use the word useless not as an insult, but a statement of fact - Georgiades had 4 disposals (1 contested possession) with disposal efficiency of 25% for 18m gained. He had a shot on goal at one point from about 30m out that missed to the near side. So his other 3 disposals were actually negative in terms of moving the ball forward. We were literally playing with 17 men on the field when he was out there.
  • Actually, make that 16 - Farrell was almost as bad. This has always been his problem - not keeping involved in the play.
  • On the flip side, Bergman and Drew had solid games.
Last year, we didn't have the midfield to go with teams like Melbourne. With the rise of Rozee, I don't believe that to be the case anymore. The problem is that we need a Rozee up forward as well. In the draft, I want us to target the best small forward there is. If he can play mid as well, great. But he needs to have pace and make things happen the way that Pickett does.

Pretty crazy to insinuate Bonner has a low pain tolerance when three weeks ago he literally played out a game with a crack in his cheek bone/eye socket and was arguably in our best 5 players.

Another nomination for a rebrand to the Port Adelaide Fluffers. Happy we can lend other clubs a hand on their journey.

All that's left now is for Melbourne to go back-to-back, and a club representative to credit the win against Port as what they needed to gain belief in their ability to go the whole way.

I don’t think Butters can play midfield long term with his current size.
He needs to get back to the basics.. he seems to lack run, struggles to get from contest to contest and when he does he just can’t find it. Maybe he needs to be dropped to spike his form.

needs a massive preseason And reality check

My eldest son was at school at the same time with Kozzy Pickett, Will Gould, Luke Pedler etc, they played against Mead Burgoyne Lukoscious and Rankine. My younger son is now at school with the younger Bourgogne and the Montgomery boys so I understand what you mean about being coached by your old man and having people who are so invested in your career - but I reckon Mead had shown real improvement this year and while he fumbled today (as did many) I really enjoyed his game last week, I think he’s a player. One of us is going to be right - hope it’s me. 😊
my lad played with kossie and against the names you mentioned.

I had kossie and rankine miles ahead of the rest.

be nice to get those 2 back.
