With King, Ross and Cordy out for next week and assuming Hill, Higgins and Battle are fit to return, who do we bring in a King replacement - Heath, Hayes or Keeler? It might be a good time to give Phillipou a week off to rest and/or does Sharman deserve another game? I posted in the Sandringham thread that I would like to see Max Heath get a couple of games, while Hayes gets his match fitness going at VFL level. A lot of players can play with a loose shoulder, so it might be that after a week or two King can return to the side and have it fixed at seasons end?

We could actually end up with the best squad we've had available all year if Hill and Higgins get up.

King really the only obvious best 22 player missing, Hayes and Membrey there abouts if they were fit but we haven't had them all year really.

I'm feeling more confident in the way we are tracking after this week's game, especially with Steele finding form. This week could well decide our fate. Win and we should be able to get on a decent roll with the draw what a in front of us.
Agree. Steele's form far more of a barometer for us then King IMO.

King needs to go away and build a massive tank now. Needs to add a few more strings to his bow because right now he is far too one dimensional.

A better midfielder would help him

I'm guessing we will go with Caminiti, Sharman and Owens forward so I doubt any of Hayes, Keeler or Heath will come in.

Out of that lot Hayes will need a few runs after 14 months off, Keeler still looks a long way off, Heath probably the most likely but I don't see him playing.

I just read that the club have rules Max King out for the year - thats shitty news.

I agree re Hayes & Keeler but I think Moose has shown enough playing forward in the VFL to give him a go. The one thing is he will do he will apply more turnover pressure than King does, and he is 205cm's and enough of a target to keep a key defender occupied. Then you have the added bonus of having a player forward who can ruck. I just think he is the type of kid who would benefit immensely giving him a couple of games at the top level.

Decided to watch Sandy today just to watch Hayes and Clark Both were obviously on limited minutes.

But bloody hell, Sandy is a hard watch. Despite my best intentions I had to switch it off. Great effort for f'all reward. Some of the skills (lack of) were almost laughable.

A question for the diehards who have bravely watched much more of Sandy than me this year -

If we have to blood a tall to play forward who would you throw a couple of games to out of Keeler and Heath?

Obviously, Hayes would be first cab off the rank once he gets match fit but who would you go for out of the other two. I'm guessing Heath?
Answer to your question is probably to toss a coin.

I watched a little over a half of this game before I gave up.

I did notice a couple of things that were similar to the seniors last night .......

1) The one too many handball in the handball chain to someone who is hot

2) The kick into 50 from a mark that's like 30 metre sit up kick to 15 metres in front of the goals to nobody leading that goes to opposition.

He looks quite slow so I'm not sure he create any more turn over pressure than King who at least has pace on his side.

We seem happy enough for Caminiti to play the second ruck role at the moment with Marshall playing 90% in there.

Problem with Gold Coast is they match up well against us - good midfield, good intercepting backs.

In the midfield they have two of the top clearance players in the comp in Rowell and Anderson, and a very good AA in Miller who's got his first game back under his belt. And they have a big ruck in good form (Witts) while Marshall is coming off a game where he ran himself into the ground. We've had trouble winning games this year where we've lost the midfield and this could easily be one of those.

In defence they have two of the top interceptors in the comp in Ballard and Collins. I don't think either of them are stars but they're ranked 2nd and 12th in the comp for intercepts, up with all the other guys who've cut us up like Sicily, Moore, Vlastuin, Andrews, Barrass, etc.

And they're coming off a bit of a capitulation with a coach who's under pressure.

If we play the way we did last night then we can win this without too much trouble, they're not that good a side. But if we fall back into and of the pattern of the last couple of months, this is going to be a very tough one.

Great.
Our achilles heel again 🙄

They match up well against every one on paper. We did beat them by 9 goals early in the year though.

Have to be real careful.
We don't bring the same effort as last night, we can kiss finals goodbye.
Plenty of clubs starting to hit their straps.

This is must win.
Totally agree. We really need to get rolling now. We smashed them last time and they don't look any better. This feels like finals on the line, no more gutsy losses this is must win territory.

King is not quick off the mark - he takes sometime to get wound up and is useless at ground level. Heath is a bigger body, who is hard to spoil because of his size and good at ground level. Then he just wills himself to pressure the ball on turn over. Plays with the attitude we all wish King had. He is not like for like but he has attributes King hasnt.

I don't really follow any junior footy, but upon looking it up, it seems that Stocker was rated as one of the best mids in his draft class.

Would love to see him get a run through the middle. He is quick and a real solid unit.

Sinclair, Steele, Crouch, Jones, Stocker and Owens on occasion. That actually has a bit of variety about it.
Just guessing but I think they are pretty pleased with his progress (not the turnover kick last night!!!) and are keen to provide him with certainty & stability re his role down back. Next season I think a run in the midfield is a real chance if he has a good pre season.

May have the attitude, but doesn’t have the pace to provide pressure at AFL level IMO. Most players would just cruise away from him.

Anyway, time will tell. I’ll be surprised if he’s named this week but I’ve been surprised before.

To suggest King is useless at ground level is off the mark though. Can’t think of too many 205cm players as good off the deck as him. Seems to be King bashing week at the moment.

I honestly think it'll be a small who comes in for King. It suits us better and allows us to play a running game. Higgins is good enough to play as a small full forward and gives us a POD going forward.
