Nash becomes a more complete midfielder with every game, absolute gun.
Well beyond just an 'improved player'. Is now a genuinely good midfielder, bordering 'very good'. That he tackles & breaks (or stands up in) tackles makes him even more valuable.

That game was hard to watch. 28 scoring shots to 10 for a 48 point win tells us two things:

1. Our midfield is a lot better than theirs and we smashed them in the middle

2. Our forward line is poor

It's a game that sums up our position at the moment: significantly better than 17th and 18th (now 3 claims clear) but still well below the pack hunting for a finals spot (still 2 games short of 15th). We're a bit of island on the ladder.

Tough watch. Glad we won.

Liked the games of:
Wingard: Probably his best for the year. Building some strong form.
Sicily: Always good.
Bruest & Lewis: Both handy
Midfield was really good.
Maginness showing some signs. A few bunk kicks.
Frost much better with Sicily in the side.
Weddle: Run Forest, Run.

Didn't like:
Two rucks again. Two marks between them. Reeves tap work was top rated, at times.
Forward set up. Looked better when Greene was out of there? Too many same/same players in our forward line.

Will be an interesting last 6-7 games with players looking to be on the list in 2024. Plenty under pressure.

NEVER IN DOUBT

The lack of having a centre half forward is evident. Too many times Lewis has to compete against two defenders. The forward-line will be so much better once the club can recruit a second key forward.
Here's a crazy plan...

Play Lewis in his best position: CHF:eek::eek::eek:

Thought Denver did well.

Was unlucky not to be paid a contested mark and another shot on goal.

Also got burnt by Impey when he was free in the goal square. Luckily Impey kicked true.

Is actually getting himself in good positions and leading to the ball. We really miss that.

Very good post.
Could easily have had 3x goals, without any extra effort.
Is:
  • getting in good positions
  • fast & attacks the ball (doesn't stand still & call for it on his head, whilst wrestling 2-3 opponents)
  • taking marks

So many times he’s made good leads only to get ignored.

Good to get a win but let's not kid ourselves it was the bottom of the ladder team without Goldstein.
We really need forwards and more forwards. Day and Nash absolutely wonderful to watch.
Not really bottom of the ladder though, are they?

Was the most experienced side we have fielded this year and the first time we've gone in with the more experienced side compared to the oppo.

83 games averaged across the 22.

Wingers was great today. Best part of his game IMO was what he did without the ball.

Lots of clever leads to draw defenders out to try and de-congest a flooded backline.

Tough watching first half. We looked good once things opened up. DGB is already looking like our second best KPF, let’s leave him there for a few games. Don’t get playing both Meek and Reeves, they’re both terrible as resting forwards.
It was a shame Ramsden was unwell today. I’m not sure he’s ready for AFL yet but he and Lewis and DGB at least add a new look that is mire promising than the resting ruck idea we’ve tried so far this year. Doesn’t look like Kosi did much in BXH just going by the stats so hopefully we try Ramma and DGB next week.

Worpel was excellent today and added a few more dollars to his contract offer. He was the best of a good bunch, as the entire midfield group was really good today.

It was great to see MacDonald free-wheeling around getting involved up the ground. He's such a classy mover.

Disappointing that our rucks were outplayed by Xerri, who I wouldn't consider to be a better player than ours (all of his touches were contested, 8 tackles, 7 clearances, only 3 more CBA's than Reeves). He plays hard and plays the way I hope Meek would.

Not really bottom of the ladder though, are they?
I think bottom of the ladder calibre would be accurate. In most other seasons, that rabble finish 18th. It's only West Coast's unbelievable injury list that has kept them from another 18th finish.

Agreed.
I reckon he's lost his top-end speed, though. He's certainly finding ways to get involved (involving others) & contribute to scores, without being the scoring threat he's previously been.
Very interesting to watch.
