toby is an absolute jet, will be a superstar sooner rather than later

Greene, as a #11 pick, was one of the players we wouldnt have got if the various muppets who wanted us to trade for more spuds, sorry *experienced players*, had won.

We'd have kept out top five or so picks, but as Greene was only regarded as pretty darn good, then he'd be playing for someone else.

Its notable he's played 15 games this year, which is 8 more than Chad Wingard has managed for Port - and Im not having a go at Port's development of Wingard, as it's the conventional wisdom to not over-play first round picks.

Heres a list of the top possession winners in the league. Not Rising Star players, not rookies. Top possession winners.

Thats all well and good Ian, but the reality is that you are being beaten by over 100 points every week now and some real classy experience wouldn't have let that happen. Is everyone over the age of 19 a 'spud'?

HFF,

Two problems.

First, players with options did not want to go to GWS. Go back to 2011, and look at all the rumour threads, and then see who we signed. You'll note we paid overs for all of the players we signed, so we made sure we paid overs for players who might turn into something special.

Second, the nightmare isnt getting frequently belted by 100 points in the first two seasons. The nightmare is what happened to Fremantle and Brisbane Bears, where 5 years after introduction to the league they were still sitting at might-make-the-8-mediocrity.

At that point, all the concessions are used, the picks spent, the free agents signed, and the AFL has to come in with a second rescue package.

So, all things in all, I'll take the beltings, watch us give as good as we get until we run out of legs, get the games into the kids to give them those legs, and be remarkably happy that our best players are our youngest ones.

Agreed Ian the kids were fine for the first half of the quarters and just fell away toward the end, they need to build that endurance and the only to do that is to play them.
