Any truth behind this business on Carlton FC's Facebook page with Jammo & Bower injured and out?
Saw the injury list. Require both these players on thursday.

For the record I do not believe them, as half of them can barely write a sentence correctly.

Keep as many others from scoring as possible. Fev and Brown can only score so many. Means alot of defensive pressure through the midfield. Leave Waite forward and send Henderson back. Let them worry about our strengths too. Henderson's played all his good AFL footy in defence but at this point he's still coming to terms with being a forward at this level. Make sense then to play him back keeping our best forward, Waite, in the forward line.

If these 2 gorillas take another 24 marks, and have 18 shots between them, then we are in a bit of trouble.

If Bower is out, it's gunna stretch us down back, and with Number 5 suspended, really could show a bit of character in our lot.

Us by 2 points, Fev miss from the goalsquare after the siren,
after getting a dubious 50.

In the mix :-

CARLTON
Having emerged from the season opener unscathed and victorious, Brett Ratten will be loathe to change a winning combination against the Lions.

Joe Anderson is probably under the most pressure to keep his spot after a few fumbles in defence against the Tigers, with Dennis Armfield, Shaun Grigg and Kane Lucas pressing their claims with the match committee.

Nothing really confirmed by the club re Bower, rumours abound.

Waite definitely to go back in place of Bower if omitted, a significant loss, but we still have an A1 midfield..this is where we will h ave an edge, and our little guys Eddie and Yarran will run amok in the wet, I reckon the Blues by 10

I'm with him:rolleyes:

We have 3 number 1's, one of them! at age 17 played SANFL could gather 30odd possession and kick 6 goals while his racking them up! and on a few occasions #4 is now playing in the big league, our mids are the best - keep the faith:):thumbsu:

I would say it will be:

1) no change

or

2) out:anderson in:army

ratts doesn't like making changes to a winning team and armfield is the only best 22 player that didn't play last week because of lack of match practice.

I really think we will win this game, have a good record against Brisbane and at the Gabba the last couple years.

GO BLUES!!

Our back line is a strength, it annoys me that most media and opposition write them down, but last year we were top 4 for defence until Waite, Jammo and Austin went down and Bower was playing on one leg for the 2nd half of the year.

Jammo did hurt his shoulder against the Tigers, this is visable during the game but he kept retuning to the field after short rests on the sidelines in each quarter, so it can't be so bad and i trust our doctors.

Thorton and Bower are great at zoning off, Jammo is your more stay at home on the opponent type, so we should be able to cover Brown and Fev.

With Fev in the team (i didn't see the Bris v WC game) i would assume JB will be more of a CHF type (in the past he has killed us around the square) and Fev will be more of your lead up type as he was with us, so Jammo to Fev who will have him covered for the spoil (not sure about pace) and TBird to JB with assistance from Bower floating across.

With small runners around the drop of the ball like Scotland/Carrots and Russel picking up and clearing....this set up is no different to our normal game plan.

Our midfield is better than theirs, in the final we just ran out of legs which is why we lost the game in the midfield, this week we won't see a repeat of that.

Up forward we should play Setanta, Waite and Hendo, stretch their defence for height, marking and athletics....with players like Betts and Yarran yapping at the feet to swoop.

Waite is very smart and knows when to drop back to help out which still leaves Setanta and Hendo up forward.

Another option in all of this is big Kruezer, play him more forward to free up a waite to play 50/50 forward/defence or have Kruezer as the floater across half back with Bower, JB or Fev won't match Kruezer on the ground and in the lungs.

Using Warnock more could be an advantage.

Another option is to bring in Hammer to ruck with Warnock and use Kruezer forward for this game to free up Waite to play his floating/free running game that he did so well last year before being injured.

For me i would change Anderson for either Army or Hammer depending on set up.

We match up well against the Lions, yeah they have Fev but they previous had Bradshaw, so their forward structure is the same, and our change up forward has been well worked to share the load.

The Lions struggled to beat the eagles in Brisbane, it was only the alst quarter they got on top, so they can't really be proud of their effort.

Brown can talk up Fev all he wants, but lets be real here, the build up and pressure is on the shoulders of one man and that is Fev, we got the monkey off our back last week showing we have a workable forward line, Fev is yet to prove anything in a Lions jumper and it won't be any eaiser this week against his old club who know him best.

Side Note - Would love to see Setanta line up on Fev and give him a bit of the Irish madness we have seen when he played on Lloyd, then have Robbo come in a spear tackle him when he has the ball

agree - did we get an ants report?

No need for Anderson, the Lions don't have an abundance of medium/small forwards, will be surprised is he is named again. If they feel Armfield is fit enough he should get the call up and be given the job on Banfield. This could give Joseph a job on a Power. If not Browne would do a good job on one of the Lions mids, like a Power. Defensively he's solid and sticks to his tasks well, he may also learn a few things from someone of Powers ability too. May not be great at this stage with ball in hand but no doubt in my mind that he is better than Anderson. Then Joseph goes to the quick Banfield.

Would be playing Russell on Sherman, Carrazzo on Johnstone and Gibbs to play Brennan one on one.

Johnstone has been reinvented as a back pocket. I suspect you'd prefer Carrazzo in the middle?

I think Kruezer will have his hands full wth Mitch Clark ;)

Dont you think?

Carrazzo during the pre-season was seemingly being earmarked as the half forward stopper. He'd be able to play on players like Shaw/Gilbee whilst still getting a bit of the footy as he's great working into space. We can't give someone like Johnstone free reign across the back half, for mine Carrazzo is better utilized stopping him whilst still getting 15-20 odd touches himself.

A few points:

  • On the recovery issue: the older you are, the longer it takes to recover... in my 20's I could run 10km full tilt every morning, no issues doing it day in and day out... now I'm 32 and I need at least 48 hours recovery before my legs can handle a full tilt run again. Black, Power, Fevola, Johnstone all 29+ will feel the pinch a lot more the day after in their legs than a Rich or Brennan would. Saying that, they are professional athletes with full resources available to assist, but the older ones won't be hitting the track as hard until about Tuesday.
  • We know Fevola's style.. but he knows ours... it's up to our MC to ensure we have some tricks up our sleeves on how we play this game... seeing our style against Richmond there are quite a few differences in our style. Granted we have some positives with Hendo and even Hadley to some degree passing on some inside brisbane knowledge.
  • Travel... we're a better team than the Weagles, only have to travel 1/2 the distance than they did, and again the extra 2 days break helps, and did our game against the Tigers being in warm conditions.
  • 22 players motivated and a Coach inspired to show an X team-mate what he's missing out on... is better than 1 player trying to show his X team-mates what they're missing out on.
All in all we obviously during pre-season didn't show all our wares as we played significantly differently in our game against the tigers than we did during the pre-season.

We've been trying to work on our forward line without Fev, they've been trying to work on their forward line with Fev.

My feeling is... if we get to a good start and contain Fev well for the first 1 to 2 quarters... frustrated BAD FEV will emerge... and that would bring such a smile to my face.

My one concern having Fev on Jamo... I wouldn't put it past Fev to slam Jamo in the shoulder at every opportunity knowing Jamo's issues.

We will emerge Victorious... Gibbs and Murphy to stand up and play an A game grade... as Captain Simmo usually fires... Carazzo to be left to rack up possies, Brock to continue where he left off.

I'd put Joseph on Black where he can nullify him and use his speed against him to rack up his own possessions. Armfield to be brought in to cater for Rich/Power and my one surprise... Henderson down back and Waite up forward. I think Henderson having played the majority down-back and playing against his old club might be more beneficial him being in defence and letting Waite cut them up up forward.

GO BLUES...

Blues by 18

Not a concern... if he starts getting into Jamo too much, slide Jamo down to the forward line and unleash the big irish beast on him :D

Brisbane are really talking this up, ...Voss & Brown talking up Fev, are they trying to make us too Fev conscious, it just won't work...Ratts has already said he;s just another Lions player.
Nothing from the Blues camp, which I like, I think we have a big chance here, my sister lives in Brissy and reckons rain is forecast...suits us, I would say it will suite McLean;s style of play, our small mids should run, run , run, with the short turn around, may see Vegas run out of legs, tactics and the midfield will win this, if we do it will be an absolute awsome victory, Blues by less than 2 goals.
(Krueze to run amok..he plays well in the wet)

So your logic is that your midfield ran out of legs and couldn't keep up with Brisbane last year so that means that Carltons midfield is superior to the Lions  and that's not going to happen tomorrow night because???

Merrett, Patfull and Maguire have O'hailpin, Waite and Henderson covered easily and Carltons taller forwards won't stretch the Lions in any way.

Brown won't match Kreuzer around the grounds and in the lungs??? Brown's fitness is years ahead of Kreuzers...idiot

Lions won 2 quarters and the Eagles won 2 quarters, hardly a struggle.

Fev's proved he works in the forward line with Brown already. It works both ways, the defenders might be able to get to him more than others but he will be sharing a lot of information about Carlton to the Lions.

What he meant was we had a few underdone players last year, we don't this year and our midfield is clearly ahead of yours. You couldn't even get on top of a poor midfield like West Coasts on the weekend.

Talk about over rating your players. Merrett is good but the other two are bloody hopeless.

 Kreuzer is one of the fittest players at the club, he's always been known for his endurance. Brown is reasonably fit but not a stand out gut runner like Kreuzer.

No, that's pretty much a struggle you dill.

Fev's proved he works in the forward line with Brown already.

Fev had a stinker against a below average backline, he's proven nothing except that he's not playing with any heart. It'll be a lot worse this weekend too. Jamison and support from Bower, Thornton, Waite and Russell will take Fev to the cleaners. He'll spit it in the first quarter and spend the rest of the game with his hands on his hips.

It works both ways, the defenders might be able to get to him more than others but he will be sharing a lot of information about Carlton to the Lions.

The only thing Fev will be able to tell them is which blokes like playing poker and which ones are good to have a beer with. Using Fevola for a source of intelligence is like getting parenting advice from Josef Fritzl.

I would be surprised if Fev managed to remember his birthday, let alone Carlton tactical set ups.

Brisbane is my second most desired team to beat this year behind Essendon.

To beat Brisbane after they've taken Fevola, after their heavy topping up in hope for a premiership this season, Judd out, at the Gabba and odds well against us... Oh how good it would be.
