Not to badly, there is a good mix of big and small bodied players. I'd expect Betts to kick a couple, but in recent years it's been Fev that has worried us (not to say you can't win without him.)

Did Rich do much tonight?

Got dragged to WC forward line by Embley who was playing on him. West coast tactic to create a mismatch. Reckon they believe Rich in the defense is better than Rich in the middle, where he is one kick away from setting up Brown/Fevola. Played well for 4 quarters, no cramping issues.

Waite on Brennan, Bower on Brown I meant to type.

Brennan was by far BOG tonight. His run and carry is damaging. But it's your rebounding backs that worry me more than your midfield.

Yep, doesn't surprise me, we're definitely stronger in the former.

noted no WCE cramped whilst you still ran over the top of them, bit strange!

Really strange, I guess Brown wasn't cramping and he was someone who played a huge part. Rischitelli too. Brennan was exceptional all night, and he was certainly cramped up.

18 disposals, of which 6 were kicks. Seemed to be playing a defensive role tonight & therefore didn't have much impact on the game.

Yeah... very little impact. I was surprised to hear he had 18 disposals, I knew without checking the stats that he didn't have many kicks. No traditional 60-65m passes, much to my disappointment. Seemed to opt for the handball in situations he would regularly have gone for the kick last year.

Brisbane got on top tonight because the Eagles lacked enough quality rotations in the midfield. The Eagles could have put the game away if they had another couple of quality mids. This is where we will be able to match Brisbane & if they start as slowly as they did tonight, we will be more likely to put them away.

If we can hold sway in the midfield, Fev & Brown won't be a factor (Brown & Bradshaw kicked 9 between them in Round 2 last season & we still won comfortably). As mentioned by another poster, Waite to Brennan looks like a good match-up. Brennan was so good for them tonight. Russell gets Johnstone & should worry him out of the game (Johnstone was also very good tonight, as he was in Round 1 last season, but we shut him down in Round 2).

Should be good seeing Kreuzer & Warnock taking on Leuey & Clark. I thought Clark looked out of sorts tonight, not sure if he was carrying an injury, but he didn't seem to have the same mobility as we saw from him last season.

It is a winnable game if we come out of the blocks like we did on Thursday night & put some early scoreboard pressure on.
it was the lions inaccrurate kicking, that kept wet toast in the game.could of easily been 13.3 (fev & brown combo). lions will smoke you blues!! fev & brown will kick 15gls between them next wk.

If it is as humid on Thursday as it was tonight, your boys may find themselves cramping too.

Could have cut a slice of air with a bread knife tonight.
you had lots of trouble with that last year all season. Must be more to it.

Are you serious? We were the comeback kings all year. Steamrolled so many sides in the 4th quarter.

Not saying you didn't but you also suffered more cramps than I think any other team did. Even when in Melb. Try shotz instead of gatorade

Wish we could have our IV drips back, they worked a treat. ;)

I think that if you check, even most of the paddlepops supporters are suggesting that it will be a close match as both teams match up well on each other.

Will be very interesting to see how things go next week... thank god I have this coming week off and I can watch the match without having to worry about working from home :D

he worried us too, thats why we ****ed him off to your club

I think Anderson will miss out this week and Armfield or Lucas will come in.
This is how i would like our back 6 to look,

Bower - Jamison - Russell
Staker - Fevola - Banfield
Joseph - Thornton - Scotland
Power - Brown - Buchanan

I think we can match them in the middle, this is what i think the foward 6 will look like.

Robinson - Waite - Yarran
Drumond - Maguire - Raines
Betts - O'hAlphin - Henderson
McGrath - Merrett - Patfull

Didn't Adcock come of with seriously twisted ankle and Drumond went of and didn't come back on. I dont think Adcock will play and i hope drumond dosen't.

Now that we've go our last pre-season game out of the way, it's time to focus on our first up game against the Brisbane Retreads.

If we were playing on our home turf, with Judd, we'd win this one comfortably. But up there, without the best player in the AFL in our side, plus with a very young inexperienced side learning a new gameplan, it's going to be a lot tougher. We go into this game as massive underdogs.

The media focus is going to be in Fev. Seems he only needs to kick 3 goals in a game for the HUN to get excited nowadays. Gee haven't they changed their tune.

We have a better midfield than the Lions - more talent, more leg speed, more upside. They'll need to perform to prevent the Lions 2 veteran KP forwards from getting easy unpressured delivery. Think the Lions other forwards are quite ordinary, so if we contain those 2 we should be fine. Do the Lions have ANY quality small forwards? Hoping Jamo is fit. If Jamo, Thornton and Bower can contain Fev and Brown, we can push Waite forward and apply the blowtorch to the Lions weak defence. Our smalls - Betts and Yarran - are top-shelf talent, and the Lions are going to struggle to contain these 2. Our new 3 KP forward structure looks promising. Setenta, Hendo, and Waite will stretch the Lions short defence, and their athleticism will expose players like Mcguire and Merrett.

The AFL scheduled this game up there, hoping to get the Lions a win early on for marketing reasons. How awesome would it be if this talented young Blues side spoilt the party and knocked off the Brisbane Retreads against the odds.

Changes: Probably Armfield in for Joey. Prediction. An "upset" - Blues by 25 points.

:)

and by that logic Betts, Yarran and Setants could have got 5 a piece if it wasn't for missed shots. I understand Brownvola is a strong forward line, but hate that logic that they kicked bad this time and for 'BS reason' will have same shots + more goals against us.

Freo supporters...always enjoying the alternate reality

Need a fit jamison for sure. Very difficult game for us, one thing in our favour is the 5 day break as opposed to 7 day break.

Stopping brown and fev is the key that means pressure upground on their ball carriers. Has to be a whole team effort for four quarters. I think they got a few injuries as well.

AS i said before we are still growing, i feel we are going to inconsistent in games bc of this.
