Round 20 The Sydney Swans vs The Geelong Cats

Play with the intensity we did against the Saints and Geelong and we will be back in 2010, no doubt about that. Our efforts in those games were vintage 2005, without that little extra polish to take us over the line.

I can't even get to the proud bit.

Just heartbreak

Bad luck Swans. Your team is just all heart and you pushed us all the way. I love the way your lads play. Good luck for the rest of the season and even if you don't make the finals this year there is certainly some promising signs for next year.

fwiw, must have been a geelong bloke with his finger on the siren, coz we were coming and I thought we had a minute or so to go..

Gutted and heartbroken!

But we pushed them all the way, we never gave in and we fought right until the end. And i couldn't be any prouder

There were times during the game especially in the last where we fell behind by 20+ but we still dug deep and managed to fight our way back into it.

A gallant effort by our lads and i am pretty proud that we are going to really finish this season really strongly. The form all the young fellas have been showing over the last couple of weeks is making my mouth water and cannot wait for 2010.

Bad luck, but lets show these Collingwood boys what the Bloods are all about and push them all the way. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

proud but dissapointed

solid team effort around the ground, we failed to hit targets, but the commitment and intensity was something to behold

they just had a few extra quality players to carry them over the line

I hate AFL **** this I'm goin to bed

What did the umpiring look like on TV?

From the ground it looked as though Geelong basically had free reign to do whatever they wanted. Threw some cheap shots, disposing however they want, dropping to the knees every two minutes. w***ers.

To be honest, it wasn't too bad. They let a lot go for both teams but yes, Geelong seem to be given some "creative licence" when it comes to disposing of the footy, especially when tackled.

Well, we didn't get the win, but we played like we did. We just fell short, but look at the form we're in! Hey, at least we're closing in on the famous pick 7! We've seen that we've got young blokes who are up to taking the reigns from the more senior guys. We've seen that we can survive without Hall and co. In all honesty, this kinda reminds me of when I first started following the Swans with any seriousness. That year was 2002. Roos had just taken over, and after an ordinary year (albeit under Eade), the Swans were looking fresh and powerful. Wasn't enough to make the finals, but we went in the next year, with a freshly turned over list as we will be in 2010, and made the top 4.

As much as I'd like to play finals, for the sake of being involved and our kids getting a run in that environment, at least the draft system provides a consolation prize. In a sense, we know we're good enough at the moment to be in the top 8, and we also get better picks in a shallow draft. The only thing missing is the actual finals game. We'll be OK.

Good performance and there was a good crowd, which was surprising. The atmosphere during the last quarter was great and I'm looking forward to how we go next year based on the last 3 weeks.

Atmosphere was good in the last as you say, but the first 3 quarters was pretty lacking in that area IMO.

Anyway, more importantly, so so so proud of our guys again. Outplaying Saints and shoukld have won but went down by a point and then really being outplayed by the Cats but still managing to almost knock em off. We will not be bottoming out people, we have all known it for a while but maybe some other supporters may realise it soon too.

Goodesy was brilliant again, as was Mick who possibly played even better than last week. Shaw provided heaps of run as usual, Jude and ROK were great in tight and won heaps of the ball. The Geelong midfield of Ablett, Corey, Bartel, Ling just won too much ball and cleraed it with too much ease. Their forward line is shithouse. Hawkins, Mooney, Stokes, Byrnes etc. need silver service to kick goals and our defence was fair really. We didnt get enough good ball to our forwards, who looked dangerous when given a decent shot.

Well done boys. Made us all proud once again.

The amount of times Geelong got the clearance from the back of the ruck was astonishing.

Absolutely. Was getting so frustrated about that exact problem. Ablett got it out the back so much tonite, Corey, Bartel and Ling too got easy ball around the stoppages, it seemed to be coming out of the middle so easily. Good thing their forward line cant function without the ball being given to them on a platter, cause that didnt happen all night long and it allowed us to stay in the game.

Very very very proud of us tonight

Great effort :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Unfortunetley we have Collingwood and Brisbane... But even if we lose both those matches we will still get pick 6 or 7 in the draft and a very decent player :thumbsu:

This years finals have been over for a couple of weeks now...

BRING ON NEXT YEAR
