Review Round 3, 2022 vs Adelaide

You simply don’t lose those types of games.

Then again you don’t get blown out the water by 64 points at home against the Hawks

You don’t throw in the towel in a home Prelim by 12-13 goals

This is Port Adelaide, we exist to sell memberships, club merchandise, protect Ken & be a socially responsible club.
We won’t be doing much selling anything for the rest of 2022 but I’m sure we will protect Ken hardery for longery at least

If you've checked out that's telling. Where do you honestly think the boards at then? Surely you believe it's very close for ken to to walk?

He’ll hang on until late in the season but i think its obvious this will be his last year

I didnt even see half the game. Checked the scores early in the last then after the game.

I lol’d. No fu**s given
I did the same.

See we're about 20 points up, #HotToddy has five big ones, put phone back in pocket and keep talking shit...

Check phone again, see we lost after the siren, shrug, put phone back in pocket and look forward to the LOLs on here for the train ride home.

Losses like last night & the week before plus the final quarter against Brisbane are what happens you don't show any accountability for the catastrophic loss in the preliminary final last year. Only Chris Davies had the balls to call it what it was, a disgrace. Since that moment you can see the moments on field where the players don't know what to do, when the wounds from that loss (and 9 plus years of similar) show themselves and they panic or crumble. The same deer in the headlights look they had in that opening quarter of the preliminary final. It will always be there until they confront their demons from it and attempt to move on properly, which won't happen when the biggest demon of that night stays on as coach.

Instead as a club we actively hid Ken Hinkley bar one interview on 5aa post that loss. Hinkley then got angry at Kane Cornes and Tredders for telling the truth, that says everything about the man, and his stink has now infected the players. Hinkley's messaging when he did emerge from his pre season hiding avoided any semblance of taking responsibility for what occured that night. To go from the week before that disaster of being a home preliminary final win away from a Grand Final to now losing a game by going defensive in the last quarter against Brisbane, to not showing up at all against Hawthorn in Russell's tribute game, to again going defensive instead of aiming to kick a few more goals to put the Crows away is a almighty fall, one that shouldn't escape any scrutiny from the football media.

I don't care how good a bloke Hinkley is, he's paid to win games of footy and ultimately a Premiership. He won't ever win a flag as a coach, his mast in that regard is set and flown. It won't change, it may flicker in the opposite direction for a fleeting moment like the past two seasons, but at the moment of truth it will always revert back to type.

If the board don't act now like they should the plummeting crowd numbers, the discontent and disconnect from us the supporters will continue to grow. Koch and Richardson surely aren't that naive as to not see the issue, the bald headed, Coke Zero sipping one that needs to be removed now. If they are that naive as to bury their heads in the sand and ignore the Hinkley issue then when our crowds plummet below 15,000 will be solely on them and their saviour. They'll get a taste of it this Thursday night, hopefully the crowd is that low it utterly embarrasses them both. Because the on field performance is a embarrassment to us the fans & to our clubs traditions so maybe if less then 15,000 show up Thursday they'll finally see the discontent they've bred since last year's preliminary final with their own eyes, where they can't turn away and write a ridiculous email to placate the very stupid.

REH calls it corporate amnesia and this is exactly what we are experiencing. Club is making the same mistakes as it made after the 2007 GF - sweeping the disaster under the rug, pretending it didn't happen, writing it off internally as just an outlier result on the road to success. Quite a few of us were worried about this pre season.

Can I ask why?

Half to do with my personal situation, football has become well down my list of priorities this year so i’m looking after me first

Half to do with knowing we were in for a shit year after blowing 2 chances of success, wanting a new coach, hating our gameplan and having zero confidence in us winning.

No offence to Adelaide but that was probably on paper their worst ever line up in 31 years. And we lost to them. I think we all knew that would happen too.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I’ve remained super positive throughout a lot of our bad times over the last few years and the worst times a decade ago, but even I know we’re ****ing doomed unless shit changes.

Or it was a big farking hit, the campaigner just came off neck surgery, and there was an element of whiplash to his neck.

Murphy is the type of campaigner who would have wanted to take the shot. Ie. Greedy.

He was legitimately hurt

Bet he plays the next game.

Their line up actually looked like a team list when you’re 5 seasons into NBA 2k MyCareer where the game just generates random names in the draft.

And they beat us.

It is pretty obvious that we have taken the cheap option to save money in regards to appointing from within our fitness department. There would have been better candidates on the outside.

Same can be said for appointing Cornes as defensive coach.

The whole structure of the coaches box is inept.

You get what you deserve.
I was suspicious of this when the new coaching structure was finalised. It was clear as day that it was a significant downgrade on previous years. I suggested that perhaps Hinkley was being set up to fail this year. Maybe someone with some influence does actually want change. Purely speculation.

The worst part of all is I don't see our current freefall being corrected once the dehydrated corpse of Jabba the Hut is finally wheeled out the door.

Who could genuinely have any confidence in the club's administrators to pick the right coach? The same administrators who have happily sat and fellated themselves while the club has been white-anted and destroyed from within for a whole ****ing decade.

I mean, we literally just let Schofield walk out the door without a whimper. He was a god sent replacement to the current shit sandwich and has future premiership coach written all over him. And instead we just gave him away like a half eaten vegemite sandwich, and continued our inexplicable fondling of Hinkley's coke-zero encrusted testicles. Yeah, awesome decision making skills on display there.

We are in for a world of hurt, and it won't stop with just sacking Hinkley. The whole place has to be bombed and rebuilt with new decision makers at all levels. Otherwise we will end up with some budget Primus option and it'll be deja-vu all over again.

Much improved game by the oft maligned Todd Marshall last night, and he finished well too, albeit he does run too close to the man on the mark too often for my liking, and I can see smarter oppo coaches taking advantage of that in future games and forcing him to kick high.
yeah. Of all the things he gets criticism for I’m surprised that is never to rarely picked up. Takes very short run ups.

Though I notice it is an issue to some degree with all our forwards. They all take short run ups and finish too close to the man on the mark.

Wtf are we teaching them?

Um, are you forgetting that we've just embarked on "An era of unparalleled success"?

And because we didn't win it last year, there's 3 flags in the next 4 years baby!

I hate Hinkley but I want to win. It’s f’ed where I am at right now. I feel Hinkley is gone at seasons end regardless so some wins would be f*n nice. Losing to the crows after the siren from that tosser that chose them over us, what a fantastic script. It won’t get Hinkley sacked any quicker though, but it will ensure our next coach now has at least 3 years to turn us around like nicks has at crows.

What a mess.

If Hinkley is gone at seasons end he should have been gone before last night was over.

over all a brave effort

if a few things went our way, we could have snared the 4 points against a terrible opposition

if we work harder, for longer and stick to our structures; we can expect more of the same in 2022 and beyond

I think we are also a bit faarked whatever happens. Either we keep what we have and the piss weak club rearranges the deck chairs and we keep eating the same shit sandwich or we clean out whollus bollus root and branch

Unfortunately that bomb and rebuild also comes with a fair share of pain.

Are we prepared for some lack of success while we get things right?. Players moving on shit timeslots mistakes to happen?

Are we prepared to accept losses where effort and structure is there but not the cattle?. People may say yes but W/L will probably not look pretty.

I want that path, we need that path but just flagging it is not all beer and skittles. There will be pain attached.

So we lost to a team that had Elliott Himmelberg and Lochie Gollant as key forwards and they kicked 8 goals between them.

Figures.
Priorities 1, 2 and 3 are Sack Hinkley, Bassett and Koch, but our recruiting team should be tugging collars right now. It took until the last handful of years to finally get some KPF's recruited as anything other than late speculative picks. They still haven't in Hinkley's time though looked at the 195cm+ KPD we've been shown up to need over and over again. Flankers and small forwards still in overabundance, as we've lamenting since the latter Choco days, now almost 15 years ago! The easy draft choices, they all individually tend to look at least ok, so no finger pointing at the recruiters for missing the mark, but then our list overall is unbalanced. Adelaide (until very recently) at least had the balls to keep drafting talls, even if some were going to be busts. If it wasn't for them all wanting to bail they'd have had a very strong spine most of the last decade. **** this club across the board.

Our coaches and players are trying to work out how to go to the next level. ( their words not mine)
Here are my ideas:
  • get a coach with football knowledge and how to develop a team based, efficient game plan that utilises individual players skills and talents
  • at least get players fit for the season
  • learn to kick for goal (our best is mediocre, our worst downright atrocious
( our field kicking, overhead marking and even handball at times, are only marginally better)
  • use the gym to develop some upper body strength and muscle
  • play 2 ruckman and don't burn out Lycett by round 6 every year
  • draft only plus 195cm kp players with our early picks for the next 3 years

PS please leave Ken!

KG and Cornsey cracking on, along with crow supporters, about how good a game it was last night and what a contest it was makes me sick.
It was deplorable. Its about as entertaining as watching Barry Hall fighting the corpse of Jack Dempsey and winning on split decision.

I don’t know if Mayes is a dickhead for giving away the free or a legend because he probably has sealed Hinkleys fate.

Sack Hinkley.
Sorry to interrupt but I used to follow Mayes in Brisbane and he looked like he could have been a superstar when he first arrived but there is something about his decision making that let's him down and has stopped him reaching the heights he should have
