I heard recently that the contract is six years……….I assume the 7th will be heavily trigger based.

This information came from a current board member.

I just don’t get the Grundy hate myself.
I think its frustration rather than hate.

Its pretty hard to reconcile the player he was when he signed the contract with the player he is now.

Me neither. Good luck to him for signing at the right time. If people are going to carry on so much about him not justifying his contract, what are they going to when someone on a big contract gets injuries and can't get on the park?

Agree 100% we need at least 2x Defenders- not so much KPD but more like a Grimes, Taylor or Haynes from GWS

Think our recruiting strategy has been so focused on mid size mids/forwards it’s really hurt us

If/when 1 of Moore, Howe or Roughy go down, it puts so much pressure on the other 2 left

We don’t have defensive depth and if this is the game style we are now adopting, then we are going to be left short ( just like last unlosable ) game last night

It’s not to say that we should ignore key forwards. We could definitely do with another, preferably over 195cm.

It was clear to me last night that we could find ways to score, and more so with Kreuger and McCreery added. It was also absolutely clear that we really struggled to deal with Hawkins and Cameron.

Roughead back in 2 weeks will help that but we need to address that deficiency and succession plan for Howe and Rough retiring.

In terms of our defensive structure I think the cats also utilised a weak spot well. Normally if a side is marking inside 50 the ideal area is 45-50m from goal and within 10m of the boundary. The cats seemed to take a lot of their forward marks in this area, but it was too frequent and most of the time they kicked straight. Normally you’d expect a side to miss more often from that area.

I don't think he has to justify his contract - it's the club that can't justify it.

Regardless of what the market says it isn't, never was, and never will be a justifiable term length.

I think the justification was pretty simple. At the time he was our most important player and in high demand. The extra years would have reduced the yearly amount and enabled us to be able to juggle him into the cap.

I think Dean is a neat fit for the KPP player we need to partner Moore. He has pace, is a good intercept mark, sound kick.
I still think we'd be worth trialling Kelly in place of Madgen as a 3rd tall. Clearly Madgen has no demonstrable upside. Kelly should do so though.

If Kreuger can get on the park, I think that he Checkers supported by Elliott, McCreery, Henry (once he stops fumbling), Ginnivan, DeGoey is a diverse forward line with scoring power. McInnes can cause some problems with his height and pace too. One more tall contested-marking forward would be handy though. But we've seen this season that we can score OK with our current game plan.

That's not enough justification.

How is 7 years too long a period to bet that a player doesn't have a career ending or career hampering injury or illness not comprehensible??

Every justification just fails because common sense insists that the odds are too high.

Cameron is a real zone buster because he gets the ball so easily in those spots and can kick them.

It’s complete and 100% justification.
The fact you are using hindsight to question it doesn’t alter the logic at the time.

A career ending injury can happen with a one year contract - you are clutching at straws.

I felt we Pushed too far up the Ground as quite often we got Caught out the Back when we turned the Ball Over
They're the dice that we choose to roll with a game plan built around heat on the ball. We're getting nfrantic pressure and options through the middle and the forwards swarming for ground balls. I like it.

I am firmly of the opinion that if Collingwood had a gun KEY FORWARD - either full-forward or centrehalf-foward - that the team would have see beaten Geelong. The club needs to be extremely aggressive & creative to get the best young key forward from the 2022 AFL National Draft. Alternatively, we need to come up with a mix of trade picks and/or players to recruit an existing key forward from another club. I mean if the club had a players or players on their list such as Harry McKay or Charlie Curnow on the list, then there are no limits upon what this club could do in the short to medium term.. Goodnight & good luck.
We’re you thinking this at 3 QTR time last night?

That’s the game plan mate, and exactly how Richmond did it. Numbers to pressure the contest and keep
Running forward. Unfortunately it leaves you exposed at times. Risk v reward. Numbers back is Buckley. I’m happy with how we are atm.

Adams- his battery ram style seems to be catching up with him, hopefully he can show some improvement, he was huge last week so may just be ginger this week.
Are you seriously trying to say his 30 disposal, 8 clearance game was not up to par…?

I tell you one thing. Teams are going to fear us in 2-3 years.
I think teams will be fearing us by the end of this year tbh. Despite the loss, this game has made a believer of me. I think we can mix it with the best this year. We won’t go all the way but I think we will be there competing at the start of September.
