It looks disrespectful and gives rise to claims of taking it easy if you say you are resting 3 players. I don't expect Mcarthy to play twos. He is not dropped. He has had a huge 6 months getting back. A rest will be good for him.
Hope you're right. What he offers and does is what we need.

Purely to reward effort. It wouldn't hurt to occasionally reward someone for actually pressing their case for selection.

Yep. Surely if they can accommodate Cockatoo on the premise that we will win easily anyway, they can do the same for GHS. I get that they play vastly different roles, but if we are assured of a win regardless, why not play a guy that has been banging down the door (albeit against low quality opposition), particularly after all the talk about how good his preseason was.

He was playing seniors, and now he isn't.

That's called being dropped.

Technically yes... but he's not dropped in the negative sense of the word if he is being rested

And as he is been our most dangerous small forward he certainly isn't out based on form

Enright aside, the changes are much of a muchness for me. The other two who have gone out haven't set the world on fire the last couple of weeks. Their two replacements haven't done much either. Their turn for a chance I guess.

Sounds like the sheep and the whips and the farmer market etc will be quite a show..be interested what reaction it all gets.
Perhaps they should have got a rep team of Netballer's from Geelong and Ess to make it really like a local game.
Im not sure that Ess in its current status will ensure a big game attendance but if they can make it work , good on them.

Dont bother with GHS, obviously not a Chris Scott favourite... you know how it goes. Until Jimmy retires hes not getting a game. Think hes a really clever footballer but he's to slow for the MC.

Rightly or wrongly he'll be waiting for a like for like change to be made. With Menegola and Selwood getting nearer to fitness by the week, time is at a premium.

Because the AFL like to give the illusion that every team selects its best side week in week out and such thing as multi-managing of players each week doesn't occur
So McCarthy misses after showing some good signs and Kersten who has been shit for 3 weeks keeps his spot? If it is managing McCarthy then say it is Managed - he was dropped.

I think the most interesting selection option this week is Bews as an emergency ahead of GHS - I'm not surprised to see that GHS wasn't recalled to the senior team, but I am surprised that he has been dropped as an emergency and replaced by Bews, and even more so that both Kolo & McCarthy are also emergencies when chances are that at least one of those 2 might be the same type of emergency as Gregson last week who just has the weekend off with no footy game.

And at the same time, if we are managing either/both Kolo & McCarthy, where say one of them doesn't play any level of footy this week, I hope it sends a message/wake up call to those in the VFL side that they need to really put their case forwrd if they want a chance for senior selection - because if we are willing to name say McCarthy as an emergency but expect him to have the weekend off unless we have no option cause someone has to pullout, it kinda says to the guys in the VFL that they aren't doing what is expected of them, and they need to do better.

So you advocate the tried and often failed method of chopping and changing. He probably is lucky based off how he played on Sunday, I'd rather him in the side over Murdoch anyway.
Were the mc thinking...he's had a good pre-season, he's deserves to come straight back in on that.
Yeah he apparently worked twice as hard on the track while suspended, match practice is better than circle work ?

McCarthy has a longer injury history than Kersten - chances are the club decided on the back of the 6-day break to give him a rest if that is an option, but by naming him as an emergency he is able to play should someone else pull out. If we say he is managed/rested, it makes it very hard to name him as an emergency and have him available for selection if he is then a required played.

I'm sure the players are all aware of the reasons for their omissions from the team and for those who are being rested/managed, but have something different written beside their name, I'm sure they aren't too worried about it at all.

Things are gonna get real interesting when scooter is fit

Arhh... Things are gonna get real interesting IF scooter gets fit and returns to his best form. Our coach seems to play a high value on speed... (no GHS) so if and when he gets fit and gets mobile..then we will have some spinning wheel fun on Thur night.

Our old coach the other night on Foxfooty when asked about Danger and Selwood basically said yeah thats ok but you need 12 mids. Not in love with the way we have gone about it I think (perhaps its different to what he did??)...anyway a fit and mobile Scooter is in our best 12 mids for sure.
