The Geelong Perspective:
Theme Song:

Usually this thread is written off of several beers. I have attempted to write this thread over the past three days, each night making a journey to the local pub. I am yet to be able to get home on two legs, thus the lateness in this thread.

Rather than a 'funny' and slurred thread, enjoy this bitter, angry and hungover post. I hate the world at this very moment.

Oh how things can change in one week, I have seen the words of our supporters go from complete words of optimism, positivity and faith in our year, to words like 'Critical Analysis', 'Useless Hack', 'Downfall'.

Us Port Adelaide supporters are a strange bunch, we are as up and down as our club itself. We never seem to be able to pull two positive weeks in a row, and last week against Brisbane was definately a down week.

For the past few weeks we have spent almost each quarter playing high intensity, strong, defensive and skilled football. Last week, we barely did a thing right. Dont get me wrong, Brisbane were great.

This week will be a true sign as to where our club is at, Win or Lose, we must fight.

Port Adelaide Injury List:
Dean Brogan (shoulder soreness) - test
John Butcher (back) - indefinite
Robbie Gray (back/hamstring) - test
Daniel Motlop (hamstring) - 3-4 weeks
Marlon Motlop (fractured foot) - indefinite
Jay Schulz (knee bruising) - test
Matthew Westhoff (groin) - 2-3 weeks

Geelong Injury List:
Mitch Brown (leg) - 2-4 weeks
Josh Cowan (ankle) - test
Cameron Ling (ribs) - available
Brad Ottens (knee) - test
Darren Milburn (hamstring) - available
Steven Motlop (shoulder) - 12 weeks
Matthew Scarlett (back) - test
Jesse Stringer (groin) - test
Travis Varcoe (thumb) - 4-6 weeks

Some pretty big names in the above lists, though we will be seeing a few new ins this week.

Lets take a look at the game itself.

The Rodant.

If you love Port Adelaide, or you hate us, you are bound to love David Rodan.

David is a true modern gentlemen of the great Australian Game.

Delisted from Richmond (first hearing of his sacking at the club's best and fairest function via an impromptu speech from captain Kane Johnson) he has come to Port Adelaide in 2006 and did not miss a single game in 2007.

Rodan can be incredibly damaging for Port, though can also be very quiet. Expect a huge week from him, back to his best.

Shades of Gray.

Any excuse for me to use that photo.

Gray is back. Gray is good.

For more of her though;

Even if Gray isnt an 'In' this week, im sure she has an opening for him waiting at home.

Davenport.

Remember that goal he kicked against Geelong last time he played there at Skilled? He loved it.

He loves playing against Geelong, he has a lot of friends that still play there including Ablett and recent recruit Podsiadly. Jason has had a good season so far, but has been a bit inaccurate in front of goals.

He will use this week as a huge opportunity, and will come away with three goals. Prove the haters wrong Jason.

The Giants.

Will Dean be back this week after being pulled out last week with injury, or will young gun Matthew Lobbe get his first jumper.

Last year, and pre-season everyone was talking about Matthew as an almost walk in replacement for Brendan Lade. He has yet to live up to his potential, but requires game time. This good be his first chance.

The Final Spray:

Ok, I apologize.

The witty humour you have all come to love, is almost non-existant this week.

Im off to the HWY now for a few brews, who knows if this thread will be edited in the next few hours.

Both Geelong and Port have a few injury concerns, and both teams are coming off a loss. Geelong has had to travel from Perth, which will weaken them a bit.

Cant see them losing though,

Geelong by 39.

Not a bad first quarter,

Port 3 2 20
Geelong 5 3 33

Port skills arent up to Geelong, who also seem to be in second gear at the moment.

Few poor umpiring decisions which have been costly, but overall a fairly decent start.

Interesting game so far,

Pretty quick game.

Geelong have looked good at times, but slowed down a bit at others.

When they have, Port have taken advantage and then turn it on.

Not sure how long both teams could keep this up. 10 Minutes ago it looked like it was going to be a thumping, Geelong had everything.

Port got three quick goals, and looked good.

Half Time:

Geelong 8. 7. 55
Port 7. 3. 45

Geelong should win, but if Port can keep up the pressure of the last 15 minutes we are in for a shot.

I wonder if someone will tap Dennis on the shoulder and tell him that it was in fact Port who were leading that game in 2007 at every quarter and not the other way around. If you take the effort to look up the margins at each quarter, its probably worth noting which team was in front.

Yeah I've been searching for a live link in vain. So I'd appreciate a link too.

On the game though, Port Adelaide still seem to be in the game after Geelong ran away in the first half of the second quarter with a 27 point lead.

Current score at half time:
Geelong 8.7.55
Port 7.4.45

Disappointing with the umpiring both sides really,

Given both teams a few chances, sadly Geelong have been able to convert at least 3 of them into Goals though. Though the seemed to give us one back with Davenport in the last quarter.

Just wish they let the game play :).
