Longer has nothing to do with it. I didn't mention him so why even bring him up? Hickey has been poor this year compared to his own past form. That's pretty much a fact and is completely separate from what Longer could/would/should do.

Accusing me of bias is pretty stupid btw.
Because the call is to to replace Hickey with Longer who has been worst than last year.
And its not a fact.

Beaten against Melb
Won against WCE
Shaded by Brisbane
Shaded by Collingwood.

He' s by far our best ruckman.

Who do you suggest replaces Hickey?

I agree with you. Our midfield is by far our weakest area on the ground, but don't forget we have an elite midfielder in Jack Steven sitting on the sidelines and an in-and-under, contested ball winner in Stevens as a potential inclusion as well.

good point lex. god we need him back!!!! should help things improve

Wow, just seen the stats for the first time, great to see Seb, Newnes, Robbo, JB and J-Webb get so much of it. Think that might have been the first time this year we had anyone get over 30, so to have 3 do so and none of them be Stuv, Armo or Joey is very pleasing.

This young midfield group will take time, as they won't all get to be in there at once and as such will have to rotate through there, but it will come eventually. The talent is there.

Defence was immense, after taking a few weeks to gel.

Over to you forward line, time to start repaying the others up the field for their hard work.

i actually thought the fwd line worked quite well, problem was the delivery inside 50 was diabolical at times

conversion needs to improve though. its atrocious

The stats thing is interesting. Our game plan seems to be based on efficiency rather than collecting possessions. We are below average in overall possessions but spot on average for entries into the forward 50.
My feeling is that we are not trying to flip the ball around too much but run and carry as well as kick longer.
We have also kicked the most behinds of any team so far this year, so a bit more accuracy in front of goal would make a huge difference. I wouldn't worry to much about teams that collect a lot of disposals if they are not going anywhere with them.

Once again, I didn't mention Longer or replacing Hickey in this chain of conversation.

But you are missing my point by so much we may as well be on different planets. All I was saying is that Hickey has been poor by Hickey's own standards. The fact that he's our best ruckman is irrelevant to that fact.

Do you think Hickey is performing better this year than he did last?

thread needs more Barrels

and people rely on that bloke for draft information. i am literally in tears at the midfield appraisal

"Lynden Dunn is exceptionally high quality"

Professional troll.

Surprised Jarryd Blair didn't make the cut for top 30 mid.

I dont think he has been down at all. The third man up has hurt him but his general play is jut as good as last year.

His around the ground is so underated. Also I find it interesting how wr can have a reported average midfield but it is all Hickeys fault when beaten in clearance.

Not saying it is you, but there is a concerted campaign to discredit Hickey.

The discrediting always leads to Logers name being brought up even though Longer has not developed.

So I ask again, if Hickey is crap, who do we replace him with?

What? He just kept cracking in all day and tackling and 2nd efforts. I thought he played really well. No way he should get dropped.
Longer would have got slaughtered today and we probably would have lost.
Yeah 2nd efforts etc are top rate, just needs to win more taps to advantage IMHO

He deserved to be dropped & I suspect it was a close call. He played like his position was on the line. Now he needs to find consistency.

Btw very happy with his game, worked hard to receive the footy & his teammates fed the ball to him. That's what we need from him. That's the standard.
Just needs time at afl level.

We aren't very popular with the umpires either. We have the least frees for of any team in the league.
I really felt like Collingwood got the run of the green in the 50/50 calls today (as I felt we did v Bris last week) and I also thought they missed some blatant ones, like when Billings was flung to the ground about 2 seconds after he got rid of the ball about 40m out in the last quarter, as one example that comes quickly to mind.

The melts on the Pies board when Blair was named in the 25 and then the melts when he was the late change. Too funny.

Safe to say Bucks is not the most popular man over there.

I'm still struggling with the Ben Reid high contact in the first quarter where he rolled into our blokes legs. His legs hit Reid in the torso, can't work out how that is high contact

And then can't work out how it's not dangerous contact below the knees to our bloke

Last five minutes Collingwood couldn't be called for holding the ball/incorrect disposal no matter what they did.

The reason we can compete with what is obviously a fairly weak area is the team game we play. Every player runs back to support through the defence and midfield. We don't have 4 elite mids but guys from Lonie, Mav, Bruce etc are all back running along side our mids help out. We have a very labour intensive game plan but the Dogs play that way too.
