That is a massive call.

Swallow could still be sub I guess. Didn’t think he would be fun the first batch of cullings.

And did they say Andrew? With Read, Walter, King, Luko, Witts, Collins and Ballard. That is very tall.
3 forward, 3 back, 1 on the bench. One gets subbed off for a small?

I mean, I guess. Makes us a bit tall (and maybe slower) against arguable the fastest spreading team in the comp.

Will be interesting to see the full line-up. Maybe a few regulars aren’t making the trip for various reasons too. Late outs etc.

“I played more across halfback last year at Werribee … but Dimma has liked me on the wing so he’s kept me there and I’m all for it,” Clohesy said.

“It’s a lot of running, but I like it.”
The Suns are set to ring in the changes this weekend against the Giants, with a host of stars poised to make a return from injury alongside the trio of debutants.

Skipper Jarrod Witts has overcome a groin complaint and mid-forward Bailey Humphrey trained fully on Thursday after sitting out the Western Bulldogs clash with a shoulder injury.

Malcolm Rosas is also available for selection after serving his one-game suspension.
Suns midfield coach Shaun Grigg took main training on Thursday in the absence of Hardwick, who flew to Melbourne to deal with a personal matter but is expected to return to the club in time to take the reins against GWS on Sunday.

Grigg said the coaching staff had no reservations about playing three debutants against the premiership favourites.

“Yeah we want to add some pieces along the way and blood some youth … it’s exciting to get these guys in and we see them as part of our future, but we’re not relying on that,” Grigg said.

“They’re getting picked because they’re ready to play AFL.”

The rebuild begins now I guess. We are going to get spanked but what an exciting amount of youth being injected. At least these new guys haven’t had time to pick up the bad habits from the old group yet.

With Mac and Read in, I am assuming that Hardwick doesn’t see Lukosius as a KPP but wants to use his kicking as a rebounding halfback? He can be elite there if he can intercept well, just has to want the ball.

Budarick/Uwland Collins Andrew
Powell Ballard Lukosius
Closehy Rowell Fiorini
Humphrey Walter Ainsworth
Rosas King Read
Witts Anderson Miller
Flanders Holman Berry Graham
Swallow/Uwland

That is young. But fun.

Up to 6 changes this game? David Swallow out?

Tbf Luko and Mac can play pretty well beneath their knees. It's not like we are playing 5 Casboults
Casboult bloody frustrated me this year. He slowed down, can't change direction and can't mark.

People are jumping on Ben King who spent the whole pre-season in rehab group, but Ben had double contested marks compared to Casboult so far. Marks inside 50 - Casboult 0.3 vs Ben 2.7

Im glad we are making changes. Realistically we are not a finals football team. Getting some games and reps into these young kids, instead of playing guys who aren't going to get any better is the way forward. Short term pain to have the Grahams, Reads, Walters of the team ready to go for a finals push next year.

I still think we can play finals if it clicks. Our midfield is entering prime.

It is interesting, on our midfield strength alone we should pick up wins, enough to play finals? Who knows. But seemingly we need to take a small step backwards to move past some of the older players who won't take us forward.

This game won't be one of them though GWS is humming currently. The Hawthorn game next week is one we need to be picking up.

With our fixture, midfield, and pieces in the forward and backline (Ballard, Collins, King, etc.) being in the cusp of finals is absolutely where we should be this year.

But Hardwick doesn’t care about results this year at the detriment of getting games into the guys who will be in his squad in 2-3 years.

We are obviously still looking for the final pieces around the edge to take us to the next level, so may as well see if they are on the list while we are settling into the gameplan anyway.
