Duigan Jamo Liadler
Yarran White Russell

-this back six has performed as well as any back 6 we have had over the last 2 years.
But we also have Bower to come back into it. But for Laidler or White?
Simple. Keep that back 6 and play Bower as the sub (Collins Out). Sub him on for white or laidler (whoever is playing worse)

As for other changes. O'Hailpin in for Hampson.
Setanta was one of our best in the ants. And he couldn't possibly do worse than Hampson as a forward. He is also able to play 20% ruck time as well.
Playing Setanta will also take pressure off henderson (who will not be dropped).

1. You really need 7 backs in the team for rotations, especially when 4 of those 7 can rotate through the wings, and at least 1 can go forward. Bower is no sub. If he's properly match-fit, he's in. If he's not, he should be getting fit in the ants.

2. Setanta has played 1 game. Is less fit than Hendo. Is not a ruckman. Hampson stays till Kreuzer is right.

rest hampson loose behind the ball or make him do most of the ruckwork. right now he can't stay in the forward line in anything resembling a permanent basis. or rotate him off the bench for ****s sake. you can have him clog the forward line while you nurse his feelings, or put him on the bench out of the way. he's going to play in one way or another.

it would even appear that the forward line has ended up structured around hampson as well which is a shame. bombed up he either marks it or creates spillage for the small forwards. waite or henderson needs to be leading up as well rather than just sitting it on hampson's head.

collins, ? out
bower, armfield in

could we give watson some game time as a forward?

Out: Collins, Henderson

In: Bower, Thornton

Bower to come back into defence with White/Laidler to play swingman roles and cause a bit of havoc with match-ups. Thornton to play deep where his tendency to take an eon to actually do something won't hurt us too much.

Hendo and Collins can look for touch in the twos.

Mclean was close but don't have an obvious choice for him to replace. Another week and we may see someone like Curnow play more as a flanker and the worst performed small dropped for Brock

Out: Collins, Henderson

That team is way too tall. We were arguably too tall on Saturday.

The MC can decide if Hendo will be better for the run he had, or if they brought him in way too early.
Also, there have been mixed reports form the Ants as to wether Bower is fit enough yet or not.

If Bower is ready, and Hendo isn't, that could be one change. But we need a small in for Collins.
Reckon Army, Lucas and Ellard are the first in line to come in to the side.

Bower in as second tall, White can play on a medium/third tall forward which gives Duigan/Yarran more freedom. Laidler comes into the forward line in a defensive role, filling the hole of Collins departure. Henderson for Thornton is a straight swap

B: White Jamison Duigan
HB: Yarran Bower Russell
C: Simpson Curnow Scotland
HF: Robinson Waite Gartlett
F: Walker Thornton Betts
R: Warnock Judd Murphy
I/C: Carazzo, Hampson, Gibbs, Laidler

6 genuine talls (Jamison, Bower, Waite, Warnock, Hampson, Thornton)

White/Laidler/Walker are in between 189/190cm which makes them ideal third up/mediumd defenders/forwards. Versatility makes them a valuable trio to carry. Not too tall

Hampson should not be considered a automatic selection until Kruezer is back, if he continues to perform like the last few weeks, O'Alphin tends to play well whilst he is fresh and probably provides more of a contest as a forward and can pinch hit in the ruck, certainly has more intensity and is probably a better option.

l would suggest judging by Ratten's post game comments that one of Hampson or Henderson will go this week as both were sub-standard on the weekend, Henderson was probably in need of a game, however he has been back playing for 4-5 weeks now and although he was not expected to have a major impact, a better performance would have been expected.

If people complain about Hampsons (apparent) bad timing in the ruck, they'll cry the house down if they see Setanta back in the ruck again.

Thornton played much better against Collingwood than Henderson against Essendon. Thornton backed it up with a good game in the twos

Add on to that Henderson's game that got him elevated wasn't spectacular and I think the move is justified. Henderson needs to work on his marking and fitness. Bullants seems like a good place to do it while Thornton fills in

The team that won the flag last year have elected to play with a flexible 2nd ruck Leigh Brown who can play multiple roles rather than a pure ruckman, does not seem to have worked too badly for them.

This is the dilemma we have for now, until Kreuzer returns.

Do we hang on to the better ruck work of Hampson and his relatively non-existant forward contribution, or do we risk the harder edged forward prescence along with that the lesser ruck capabilitities of O'hAilpin?

It's almost a 50/50 for me.
I wonder which way the MC will take it this week?

I'm in the ruck boat still. First hand on the ball at stoppages is the start of many forward thrusts. Hammer and 206 have been rucking well to advantage this year, getting lots of hands on ball*

*giggle

Leigh Brown does have decent timing in the ruck. He basically just jumps into the other ruck and minimum puts his big body on them.

Setanta used to jump and hit the ground before being able to tap the ball. If he's fixed this then sure he could do the job, but i've not seen nor heard any evidence of him fixing that.

It's a fair point too. Irish is no long term solution and Hammer would be back to the reserves when Krueze is ready to go anyway. 206 would do more of the ruck and rest on the bench while Irish could play forward and do short stints in the ruck while 206 is resting. As long as he provides a contest he'll be doing his job and Adelaide's rucks are far from the best in the business anyway.

The Pies back their midfield to get the ball regardless of whose rucking and our midfield needs to start stepping it up right now because as far as I'm concerned they been pretty underwhelming as a unit so far.

So far this season we've seen some good performance's from various individuals on game day but I haven't seen a 'team' performance yet.

Stop this dicking around smash someone now.

Setanta has missed a month of football.

Read that his ruck timing was poor and he kicked his goals via his groundwork which is his strength.

Better to play Henderson ahead of Thornton who will probably be in line for promotion.

Henderson might be a slow starter, but he's an important part of our forward structure and our future 22.

Still kicked two goals in the finals without starring.

Warnock apparently got a knock, so Hampson shouldn't be dropped to promote a pinch hitter.

Collingwood's ruck division looked a lot worse with Wood and Brown in there.

Hampson has to stay.

What is great for the club is that we genuinely have a half a dozen or so players really pushing hard for selection this week. Guys like Bower, Thornton, Ellard, Joseph, Lucas and even O'Hailpin would have thrown there names right in front of the selectors this week.

People calling for Betts to be dropped should consider that he takes the best small defender, meaning that Garlett can weave his magic. Dropping Betts would make Garlett's job all the harder.

I think that Hampson should also be dropped, but we really can't until Kreuzer comes back into the side. Hampson stays.

The guys that would be feeling the pressure are Collins and Walker. Both have had relatively quiet fortnights, and might need a run with the Ants to get their form back.

Hang on, didn't most here throw Bret Thornton on the scrap heap not long ago??

Now we're all desperate to get him back in! :D

Most won't admit being wrong but we all now realise how beneficial it is to have an experienced and steady campaigner such as T-Bird in our starting 18. :thumbsu:

If we're going to persist with Hampson as the second ruck, is it worth changing his role in the forward line to a HFF that pushes up the wing to become a second marking option. .. Kreuz and Sauce performed this job really well and were rarely out marked. .. Mind you, Sauce knew when to just go up as a shield. ..

despite being mentioned in the best for all three vfl rounds josephe does not seem to be getting much of a mention...???

my memory of Joseph is trying to carry the ball out of defense, charging through packs n getting pinged for holding the ball. he tries to do that way to often n most of the time it results as a goal for the opposition.
it prob works for him playing for the bullants but that doesn't work with the seniors

Prefer the carry of Joseph out of defence, than the short backwards kicks that result in goals/turnovers.

Joseph will be back.

Ellard is a better option than Collins.

Yarran to the wing and Lucas to HBF taking Yarran's role.

If Kerr has a good game then Betts needs to be dropped.

would be crzy to move yarran from his role at the moment, is playing the role perfectly, lucas doesnt have the skill or pessesion to swap with yazz

Can't afford to go scoreless in the first quarter again...some senior players need a rocket, I thought it was 'no passengers' ??

I want our team to have credibility, let;s get some against Adelaide and have a thumping win.

Blues to bounce back here

id like to see betts be given a spell and be made to fight for his spotback.

Collins just looked lost and needs to regain some confidence. This could be for ellard or mclean.

Obviously if Bower is ready (which im told was very very close last week) then he is a walk up start.

HAMPSON DOESNT CUT IT but we cant go with one ruckman, too risky with the sub rule ohailpin could be the man.
