Yes resting players who play in the most physically demanding position on the field never happens.

So whats really happening is that the club is lying to Hickey, the clubs supporters, sponsors and the AFL.

Effing pathetic performance by the club so I've burnt my membership ticket and told them that after 50 years of supporting St Kilda this outrage is the last straw!!!

Meanwhile in separate selection developments

North Melbourne
has rested Preuss for Saturday night's clash against Fremantle.

and I see O'Meara's one week knock to the knee has become two weeks.

Kruser (sic) got rested as well

Glad to see Steven in, we will definitely need him.

Longer for Hickey is a surprise but that is the beauty of depth, if Hickey is pulling up a bit sore at the moment what a luxury it is to be able to rest him and bring in a player who should be able to match the output we would have gotten out of him underdone. Hopefully in a week or two he will be back and ready to demand his spot back... and hopefully Billy wont want to let go.

As for all the naysayers complaining about Longer's lack of impact around the ground... compare the following, Hickey's career best in each individual stat vs Longer's 2015 stats:

Hickey:
Kicks - 7.8 (2014), Handballs - 8.1 (2016), Disposals - 13.2 (2016), Marks - 4.2 (2012), Hitouts 29.8 (2016)

Longer:
Kicks - 3.7, Handballs, 5.6, Disposals - 9.3, Marks - 2.4, Hitouts 29.2

On paper he stacks up decently, and Longer is only 24 next month. I think a big reason why we can be so harsh on Longer is because we all remember all the marks that bounced out of his concrete hands. What that tells me is that he can get to the right places, confident he will eventually put it all together. I still would love to see a line up that could fit both big guys in, but unless one of them drastically improves their forward game it just aint hapepening.

-----------------------------

On another note, would really like to see Meatball come in and it should probably be at the expense of Dunstan but I am afraid that Armo's absence may require he get a late repreive.

Minch for Lonie is the go for me. Lonie's pressure acts have been great, tackling as well. But I believe that this is an area in which Minch is absolutely elite (I'm talking best handful in the competition) and just as important, he tends to take advantage of most of his opportunities.

Think Stevens, Savage and Lonie will be the emergencies.

With Longer stats for 2015, I think we should only be comparing the games where he was sole ruckman vs Hickey 2016.
In those games Longer was Kicks - 4.9, Handballs, 6.9 , Disposals - 11.8, Marks - 2.9, Hitouts 32.1 as a 21 year old ruckman.

While there is no dispute from me that Hickey is better around the grounds I do agree that Longer could improve a lot from the last time we watched him at AFL level. Really big opportunity this weekend to stake his claim.

Amateurish

Well smeg me , sorry I haven't been on this site as long as you , I don't know all the names people get called but to call me Amateurish is a bit smegging rude . Don't bother answering any of my topics from now on because I am just going to laugh at you.

Hey hey hey - I'm the resident Red Dwarf quote user on this site thanks very much :p:p:p:p

BTW I think Coops was joking....well that is how I read it anyway

Regardless of if Hickey was dropped or managed. Our coach has spent the best part of last week and this week seeking the opinions of everyone at Sandy and his coaching staff re making this change.

If Longer was to play well. I doubt he gets dropped.

Well I live in Sandy and he never called me

Yes - some creative supporter has touched up the original poster because it includes some added extra's to the one on the Saints website.
Nah man, I'm not that clever. It's the one they've sent out via email to members.

Wait, does that mean you didn't get one? Which means you're not a member?

See my earlier post - burnt my membership when they lied about "resting" Hickey.

But the real answer is that my email box gets a lot of stuff and I don't actually read it all.

Very good point, his numbers at 22yo stack up well when he had the role on his own and it augurs well for how he could go now that he's two years older, hopefully a bit wiser and more hungry and likely a fair bit fitter/stronger.

He's only now, at 24yo, beginning to enter that age where so many who play in the ruck start to really blossom and come into their own, so it will be really interesting to see if that's the case with him, if he gets an extended run at it.

Sucks that Armo hasn't been able to get an injury-free run at it since his big break-out season.

If we had him, Stuv and Seb all firing this year, with support from Steele, Koby, Gresh, Acres, Dunstan and Joey, with Roo, Newnes and Billings on the outside, we could really go places this year.

Gives others more of a chance now though, so hopefully that will make us better in the long run.
